I have so much respect for this guy. In my opinion, part of spyros success is the amazing music done by Stewart. This guy is partly responsible for me having an awesome childhood
100% My cousin had an emulated version on his gaming PC, and it must have been a really cheap one because the music would never play, even when I maxed the music volume. It made the game unplayable for me. I always had appreciation for the game's music, but that experience made me realize how much the music contributes to the experience.
"The best moment... is when you FIND that note you're looking for, you GET that chord which leads to THAT chord and you got this 'underthing' happening HERE, which pays off right HERE and at the same time in the cente- AN' DEN YOU CRACK IT AND U GOT IT, IT GOES THERE, IT DOES TH-... That's it. And it's downhill from there." -Steward Copeland
Stewart Copeland is a legend. I still remember beating the game as a kid. My dad watched me play and saw the credits and couldn't believe it was the drummer for the Police composing the music. The Police are a great band! I love their songs!
I beat all three games as a kid... But at 16 years of age I revisited all 3 of games... To Complete them properly... All the gems, dragons, eggs etc. Some things were really challenging to perform even as being an adult and playing thru them year ago in reignited trilogy at 27y old 😅
Dave Chippy I had a similar experience. As a kid, I didn’t bother going for full completion. I guess I just didn’t have the patience back then. When I replayed the original trilogy in high school, I made sure to collect everything. Good thing you need a requisite number of items for most levels. That way, you’re forced to at least collect some things. As for the Reignited Trilogy, I played it once during my last year of college, when it came out. It’s a nice remake but not worth playing twice in my opinion.
What a legend... I dread to think how rubbish the Spyro soundtrack might have sounded without Stewart His music in Spyro 1-3 is some of the most beautiful, imaginative, quirky, magical and memorable music in the history of gaming in my opinion, with Spyro 1 being my personal favourite 💞👌 It just made the first 3 Spyro's as amazing and timeless today as they were back then and I've lost count of the hours I spent as a child turning down the sound effects or just leaving Spyro stationery so I could just listen ...
It is worth noting that Ryan Beveridge was also involved in the soundtrack for Spyro 3. I'm not discrediting Stewart or anything, but there are definitely other producers out there who could've done a good job.
I also like ‘A Hero’s Tail’ music a lot despite being different and *not* being made by him. 👌 And ‘The Legend of Spyro’ music is just a *whole* other ball game in terms of gameplay, graphics, story *AND* soundtrack! 😃💜
Sheep-Face Hehehehe! You've caught me! X3 However, I actually came up with this name for my channel (it had a certain ring to it, and made sense for my focus) and then realized why it sounded so nice! Hahahahaha! I guess Spyro even has an influence on my subconscious mind!
I'm almost crying right now. Spyro the Dragon means the world to me. It was the first video game I've ever played, got it when I was 4, and to this day it's still myy favorite game (with Ripto's Rage being a close second). The music is a huge reason it's so great. guh, i'm probably way biased here, but I've yet to find a game that has impacted me as much as this one. ;w;
I always scoff at the people posting comments on old video game music tracks saying, "this made me cry my innocent days of childhood were better times le sniff"...but in this video, when Copeland started making that Spyro track, hearing it come together... I didn't cry, but I was getting there.
As a drummer and big fan of Spyro (since it was my first game ever), I absolutely love Stewart Copeland and everything he's done. You can tell he put a lot of effort into the music, especially how it evolved over time. In the first one, you can hear the similarities with his Kutzweil keyboard, with a few sounds that'd be used in Year of the Dragon. Ripto's Rage was evolutionary as it still had similarities to the first game but still had a uniqueness to it. Year of the Dragon was revolutionary! Variety in each level, unique synth and drum sounds that we haven't heard, it's still my favorite video game soundtrack of all time!
+Hector Gonzalez I personally prefer the soundtrack of the first Spyro, but then again that may be the nostalgia speaking, as the first game is the only Spyro I played when I was a child; I played Ripto's Rage and Year Of The Dragon years later due to an intense nostalgia. But yes, Stewart did an amazing job and it's nice seeing him in this interview, having fun and talking about his job with so much passion in his voice.
Watching him compose my childhood is just an amazing feeling and its so easy as well how he did all that. I love how he showed us him creating Wild Flight :D
The problem with them is that they use different instruments for the soundtrack, it seems like they went more symphonic (judging from trailer) and Dark Hollow got castrated by focusing on the high sounds, while bass line was doing most of the work. Generally, Copeland versions had very good mixing - each of the sounds can be well heard and they just came together to make awesome pieces. I am afraid they will try to hide some of the tracks.
Stewart Copeland! Thank you for composing the magical, epic, and memorable soundtrack to one of my childhood classics ~ Even the ones after the first :) I always stick around in the levels just to keep in tune to the music!
I love this video. Copeland's energy here is great and watching his process is fascinating. It starts off very odd sounding, but as he builds more onto it it just gets more and more Copeland-y and Spyro-y and you can really hear his sound come through. It's absolutely amazing.
I watch this video probably once a year because I just love how much passion Copeland has for composition, and because the final product had such an impact on me as a young kid playing spyro
WOW! Oh my God, I have to go play this game again. I've always loved Stewart Copeland's music in all three Spyro games. I am feeling really nostalgic right now. I remember first getting this game when I was 7 years old. Ahh, the memories of getting pissed off at the Tree Tops level... Great vid! =] QUOTE!!!^^
I absolutely loved the music on Spyro. It was new, grooving and refreshing. Made hours of game time even more enjoyable. And then PSU revealed it was Copeland’s genius behind it and the big Police fan in me turned up the volume even more.
Watching him at work and talking about it with such passion makes me so happy. I loved Spyro as a kid and the music really stuck with me and now as I’m older I feel I can really appreciate it. This makes me want to make music haha.
I love Stewart Coprland's music for the classic Spyro games, it's really memorable and childlike and good thing I played the original Trilogy as a child.
This was amazing. Stewart Copeland is by far one of my favorite people of all time. His mind and hands have created some of the best video game music (in my opinion) of all time.
The music that he made is so great! He is a freakin' musical genius! I love the Spyro music and everytime I think of Spyro I always hear the music in my head! This is truly one of the best video games of all time!
Funny to come back to this interview and see how similar me and my childhood inspiration have in common with our thought process when making art, hahaha! (or lack there of, rather). It's great to see Copeland in action and see how hilarious and enthusiastic he was while working on the music for this game, it puts the biggest damn grin on my face everytime I watch this interview.
Andrew Arceneaux nah they made spyro for Universal Interactive which was eventually sold to a company called Vivindi which owned Activison and they eventually sold off Activision and all there video game stuff as one company Activision-Blizzard
You know, I was a little kid when I saw this video the first time on my PU CD... it's what got me into music and musical composition and something that will stick with me forever. I take his words as inspiriation. Wodnerful stuff.
Copeland is such an inspiration. Absolutely adored those Spyro games, and the music has a lot to do with it. His trademark sound also comes through really well on Dead Like Me (great show)
One of the best game soundtracks ever! It is so consistent through the trilogy, and is distinctively Spyro. It doesn't sound like anything else, and nothing sounds like it. It also holds up remarkably well, especially for a game that is 25 years old. The soundtrack had no business being as good as it was! The Reignited Soundtrack nailed it too, and I love switching between the two. Spyro is pure happiness 💜💛
Thanks for uploading this! As with many people, this was one of the many games of my childhood, probably one of the most memorable of the Playstation for me. I still have all three original games and used to have a strategy guide or two.
I love this game I onley played this game cuz I love the music and every time I played the home worlds I would go to the flying levels fist love them I am 18 now and I am still playing this game today
This game, along with Crash Bandicoot, was a huge part in my life. Those were the two best games back then. As i matured, i started to play syphon filter quite a bit as well. But i still find myself playing crash and spyro on my ps3. Great moments in gaming history.
The last time I heard his awesome music was the craptastioc Spyro The Dragon Enter The Dragonfly the 1st PS2 Spyro game. I still listen to his music today.
When i first heard that copeland composed for the spyro trilogy it all made sense since spyro is one of those few games with memorable music these days.
Spyro - one of my first, and, honestly, one of my FAVORITE games. The music from this, and Crash, though, stands out from any other game. Most amazing composing I've ever heard. Makes me glad I work in the Video Game industry.
