Most have no idea of the work you've put onto that tank! It's awesome! Kudos!

Hi I have a CBB for a little over a year hasn't bothered coral except Aptasia totally ate them all. I have a tank full of Tangs so I have recently introduced a floating ring feeder he now has his own dinner plate lol and doesn't have to fight for food. Highly recommend this type of feeder it prevents the over feeding just to get the CBB to eat. Mine loves frozen and dried Mysis Shrimp and minced clams from the grocery store. Just love him such a character and very friendly

I've had mine for about a month now. It took almost a week to get him eating and comfortable in the tank. One thing I found helpful because like you mentioned they aren't super aggressive eaters is using a feed mode on my power heads inside the tank. I have MP60's with moderate flow and I normally haven't used feed mode during feeding as I haven't found it useful up to this point. However the cbb doesn't seem to be a super strong swimmer and once I reduced the flow in the tank he really seemed to immediately respond to this and went after food far better than when the flow was stronger. Just some things I observed while acclimating this amazing fish to my tank. His curiosity is really fun to observe like you said.

Super curious fish! if i come up to the tank he always comes to say hi now! I tend to dump mysis in by the powerhead and let it go every where. the "storm of food" kind helps make sure there isnt a feeding frenzy in one spot and everyone has a chance to sang some from the water column

Masstick - I started to put it on the glass and the tangs would go mad for it so I made sure to put some right near the copperband. Once he tasted it he knew he liked it. I had tried other methods and none worked. At first the tangs would eat it too quick so I made a little eating device with a pipette and a glass sucker thingy. After a while of him eating just this twice a day I noticed he started to compete with the tangs and other fish for mysis so now they all get both to share. Try it. It did wonders for my guy. Oh and he and my yellow will happily eat it out of my hands.

Great video Devon and #1 thing you said was try not to order online. They are often caught with cyanide and this makes people think they can't keep them because they die days after getting them. They will do circles when poisoned. One of my favorite fish.

He’s a good looking fish and in your case the reward outweighs the risk as he is eating PE mysis already. 👌

Great video. I’ve had my Cb for a year and a half now. Once they start eating it seems they are good to go. My cb eats mysis, blood worms, lrs scallops. Pretty much everything but prepared foods. He gives the tangs a run for there money at feeding time. My only problem is he likes to try and bully my snow flake eel sometimes. Tail slaps and shoving on occasion, I think he learned the tail slapping from the tangs😂.

I picked one up a couple days ago and I'm really stressing about the idea of losing it. He was eating brine at lfs so I'm hoping it goes well.. if I lose 1 due to starvation there's no way I'll try again. Compared to this a mandarin is a cake walk. I've been trying different foods, fish frenzy, masticks with mixed in clam, butterfly formula frozen food etc.. I'll be trying straight up brine and mysis tomorrow. I'm surprised how comfortable he is coming up around me when I'm watching him. Thought he'd be hiding but he's constantly swimming around looking at the bottom of qt. I've never had good luck with masticks tho, to me it looked like he was picking out the clam from the mixture. Also looked like he was striking the fish frenzy pretty good, I'm literally losing sleep over the idea of him starving tho:(

I have a super healthy looking/acting CBB, but he wasn't eating at the LFS - the ones that were had some lymphocysts. I underestimated how difficult it would be since I have lots of upside down jellyfish polyps and masstick - which I had heard was a 'secret sauce' for these guys. Anyway, I put some clams in and he keeps investigating very curiously - but he just watches like some kind of porn addict while the hermits swarm the clams. (I found some small cockels and did your method of freezing them and letting them thaw in the tank)
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes Год назад
Hopefully he goes for them. You may have to push the hermits away to give him the space to be a bit braver and go for it
@Merknilash
@Merknilash Год назад
@@ReefDudesupdate The clams were the first thing the CBB started eating - frozen live as you suggested. Wouldn’t touch anything else - including masstick (stuffed into the clam when it opened a bit) , live blackworms (nasty things and none of the fish seemed to care for them and they die in seconds in salt water), etc After a couple weeks eating clams it’s now picking at masstick in rocks , eating live brine, and eating mysis and chopped clam So I’d consider your method a resounding success which kept the CBB alive and healthy enough to start eating other foods from the water column as it has grown comfortable in my 120

Love the video! I have one and he/she is my favorite. Speaking of butterfly, I saw a video from you a while back about pyramid butterfly you picked up, but I don't see it in main DT. What happened to it? I am thinking of picking up a pyramid butterfly. Any pros and cons that you noticed with yours? Thanks.
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 3 года назад
Pyramids are beautiful fish! sadly while i was transitioning tanks he was in a temp one.. i foolishly added a new fish to that temp tank and it parished and took most of the other fish in there with him. It was a very sad hard lesson on QT'ing.
@ricardocarneiro7797
@ricardocarneiro7797 3 года назад
I agree with your advice but I will share my opinion in keeping CBs. I will say that its way easier to get them to eat frozen foods in QT because there are no distractions in DT he will naturally graze for pods on the rock. Now the real problem with CBs is they eat coral, if they are healthy and eat all types of frozen and aiptasia they will eventually eat zoas and baby rhodactis they are basically the same for the fish, if they eat clam from the shop they will eat your maxima clam. Mine ate (not picked) blastomussa and lobophyllia, some zoas and ricordea babies and will destroy it in a few days they cab eat alot of food. If you say "My Copperband never touched coral" I will say its only eating one or 2 foods and hasnt been condition to eating its full diet yet and also they are extremely intelligent fish and you are not looking at your reef 99% of the time They are like a regal angel really worth to build a tank around them but they absolutely will eat LPS and some small zoa pups and shrooms, if you have a peaceful 3 year old tank with big colonies without these LPS we keep hearing they eat youll have a better chance, but IME it became a constant liability over a wide variety or corals therefore I rehomed it, nowadays reefers are better at keeping CBs alive but this is also revealing they might not be as coral safe as we thought
