Hi. I tried to copy a music cd to a USB flash drive. I did the formatting on the flash like you said to, and then ripped some songs off the music cd using Windows Media player, and then put them on the USB, but when I tried to play the USB in my stereo shelf system, I get an error msg. I do have a USB that someone else made for me, of over 900 songs, and have no trouble playing it. Do you think the formatting of the USB could have caused a problem?

+Marzia Martin You should be able to. It depends on if it has security features on the dvd or if it would copy as one file. Sometimes they are in parts. You have to go through more processes to get it to work.

it might not, but you could always download open office. I use it all the time because it's free and it opens word documents and all that stuff, so you could google it and go check it out

@@jamiewagner It did work actually, but slightly different I have a micro USB plug for my phone which has a micro SD cards slot in it, it worked with that, so all done, I do have open office too, but I have a brilliant XL file with lots of macros in it and it will not run all the macros, yet office 97 does it all fine, thanks a lot for the video Jamie. can I ask how you video the screen?

Oh to record your desktop screen you can download a program called OBS. That’s what I currently use. I also used to use one called screen cast O-Matic which worked okay but OBS is better I am both are free and work perfectly fine with windows

+Cookie Creamer depends on if your able to write to it again. Depends on what you choose to do when you formatted it to work as a USB drive. You should be able to right click on it and choose format.

+amir if it's your game you should be able to make one back up copy of your own. Unless copyright security, might cause issues.

So after you copy to the flash drive the program should run like the the program on the cd?

Suni Xiong No its not going to a bootable flash drive. I only copied the files over. You can run the program by clicking on the setup file that was copied to the flash drive but it wont autoplay like the CD. But it will still work. You can make it bootable but that would have to be another video tutorial.

Need a help bro I recently bought a Photoshop tutorial CD which is copy protected. The disk runs by flash player( .SWF). I need to copy the disk or the videos inside the disc, is there anyway that I copy the CD. +Destini Pate You need to have the right program downloaded to extract the dvd from. Yes you can do it but this way might not work. DVD's are in a different format. I think I used something called DVDshrink, just google it and read about it first.

That's a great IDEA! I haven't tried it yet! I should try with GTAV and see if it works! Actually you would still have to install the game onto your system but I think you could run the game off of the flash drive!

I copied all my photos onto a CD-R (700MB)now I want copy them on to a flash drive, can I continue copying on the same flash drive - also, I know that a lot of my pictures have the same number 01, 02, 03, it depended on when I downloaded them from my iphone. Will I get constant pop ups that it wants to replace the previous picture names 01, 02, 03?

sometimes it will if they have the same names. Just create a new folder to copy the new pictures into. That way they won't conflict with the other pictures in the other folder that have the same name. That's one way to do it.

Hi Jamie: Thanks for your quick response - I may have not made myself completely clear - I didn't put my pictures on just one CD I have several CDs and want to put all of them on the flash drive, that's were I'm concerned I'll have a problem, since in your video you mentioned that you should clean out your flash drive because other things on it will get erased - so is there a way for me to copy all of my cds onto 1 flash drive and if the pictures have the same number will that also be a problem

Hi Luis, moving your OS is a baaaaaaaaaaaad idea. There are a great deal of files, and registries which if there is an error will kill your machine. Not to mention a lot of those files will not copy across. Your best best is to install your OS new onto your SSD, I would disconnect the original drive to ensure you do not format the original if you cannot tell them apart easily. Once done, reconnect your original disk and ensure your bios is pointing to boot from the correct hard drive. Once windows is loaded you can transfer your files across to the new drive. DO NOT copy programs, you should install each individually, again if you transfer any program or driver files by 'copy' it will not have the correct registry to run.

Thank you! The key was right-clicking the CD-drive from My Computer/This PC. It didn't have an "explore" option but it did have "copy". So I copied and pasted to the USB. That worked, with all my other files still on the USB.

This worked great for me! I found a lot of pics that I thought I had lost of my dog that I had to put to sleep on June 4th. He meant the world to me... thanks so much for showing me how to do this because my laptop has no disc drive. I borrowed a friends laptop to copy the CD to a flash drive. One difference worth mentioning is my friends laptop is a Windows 7 and instead of "Explore" it says "Organize". Other than that it worked perfectly. Plus I don't need to download any special software to view the files on my Windows 10 computer. THANKS A BUNCH!!!

I wondered if you have any insight on doing this with software that has a two-disc installation. I'm able to run the first disc's .exe fine, but in the program when it asks for the 2nd disc, it gets hung up. I can't figure out how to point it to the correct file. We have an old-school proprietary database software that we use daily, but our new laptop computers don't come with disc drives anymore, so I'm trying to figure out a way to copy the install files so we don't need to pass around an auxiliary drive.

yes it's an old video for sure, I'm pretty sure it will work for multiple disks, as long as you know what your doing, the video is just to help folks along with the process but it might require some tech background in order to do multiple disks

Quick question: I have built a new PC. The motherboard that I bought came with a disc to install the drivers. Since I don't have an optical drive, if I copy the content to a USB, can I install the drivers from the USB? I haven't been able to install Windows 10 yet because my hdmi isn't outputing a display, and I think the issue is that I haven't installed any of the drivers yet.

Thanks for showing how to copy dvd onto usb flash drive. Recently i copied about 200 music tracks in a very similar way, from Windows Media Player. Now i can plug the usb flash drive into the port in my car, instead of carrying around a load of actual dvd's. I can scroll through the tracks, it all comes up on the screen, most cars have an up or down button on the steering wheel. So flash drive is way safer while driving. My laptop is running Windows 8.1 64 bit. It would be great to save a dvd movie to a flash drive (not to watch in the car though). Thanks for tutorial.

They said you cannot transfer your music or burn it once its on the xbox app. Thats ridiculous to me, but they said I could go online and download the old windows media player, and try to put my music back on it.

is there a way to make a PC think that a flash drive is a CD drive with a CD in it? there's a very specific use case in mind. Mac OS 9, iMac G3, connectix VGS PS1 emulator will only read from a physical disc, not an ISO. OS 9 can't mount PS1 ISO files, there is no software that allows for this, you can mount other ISOs, like PC games and software etc.. but PS1 games do not mount. only solution is to have a device (be it thumb drive or some new invention or unheard of existing device) that acts like a CD drive, but is a flash drive and has its own internal firmware that mounts ISO files. how can I make this happen?

hi Jamie, your video and instructions are the best I've seen so far. The problem I have : I have a pc with XP. I want to upgrade it to Windows 7. I have the Windows 7 on a DVD but the cd rom on the pc I want to upgrade won't or can't read the DVD. So, with following your instructions on this video I'm assuming I'll be fine copying the DVD contents to a usb flashdrive. If I restart my pc with the flashdrive still plugged in, will the Windows setup commence? Thanks Ted

that won't work that way, I mean I wish it would but that won't work. Your gonna have try like an external DVD drive or your gonna have to create a new bootable windows 7 usb flash drive. You have to create it so it boots the media properly so you can get to the setup screen and install windows 7

I found usb flash genece 32g download software becomes 3g and when repeat the prosses dont work flash until dont appear for laptop please helpme

BRAVO! . You're awesome. Such a great video. I've been trying to download a driver for my ancient (but truly excellent working) printer and the online drivers don't work AT All! Even with HP's help. Crazy! I love my printer and it is connected to my desktops and I hate to buy a new printer till this one dies.. I have the cd, but My new laptop does not have a cd slot. So with your video was able to now transfer my printer cd drivers/files to a flash drive and install them on my laptop via the flash drive instead of the cd. I can use my laptop with my ancient printer now and you've truly made my day. Thanks so much!.

for things that require a dvd drive to work, like its on the flash drive, but the game cannot detect a dvd drive (the laptop does not have one) , it will not work, is there a way to make it work I tried to move a game onto a usb so i could actually play it but i am unable to make it work. would i have to make the usb bootable?

no you should be able to download to it and it should work

Thanks Jamie..hehe this is my very first comment on any videos. I do appreciate you replying. I have no idea where you are. I’m having all sorts of problems making an bootable ISO file - a ms utility formats the usb but errors on copying files. Next stop I’m whizzing up to the shops to buy another couple of usbs, then try something called rufus though there isn’t much in the way of step by step info on how to achieve what I need. I’m a pensioner in New Zealand with way too much free time. A friend suggested I swap rom drives from another pc, which is similar to your suggestion. Thanks again.

I'm in Pennsylvania USA. Yeah swapping out drives might do the trick. Here is a link to Microsoft's website, maybe if you read about some of it it will help you out. support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15088/windows-10-create-installation-media

I have a different issue I would like to address. What I want to do is take my MP3's and turn them into Audio format on a USB thumb drive. Do you know if this is even possible?

You should be able to just copy them onto the usb just the way they are and they should work

how to transfer file from dvd or cd to usb and it t will work to dvd player the usb have files from cd or dvd like from midi karaoke cd there are more songs a thousands song when i try to copy the file yes i copied but when i try to play the usb in to a player will not play or even select a song please help

They are basically the same formats. They discs look just a like and both are supported by most of the DVD-ROM drives and DVD burners on the market. The real only difference between the formats is the way I think, they determine the location of the laser beam on each disc.

your drive should show on the front of the try what formats it supports. Just use those ones then.

Yes it should, you should be able to make at least one backup copy of music.

I did really have a problem with some cd roms not letting me copy. I did managed to copy that was my music cd but the copy is really damaged.

thank u very much i have pc games that i wanted to install on one of my laptops that dont have a working dvd drive what i learned from u i was able to copy the game cd from my other computer to the usb flash drive and them install it on the computer with the broken dvd drive thank u very much i was going nuts trying to figure this out

I believe yes you can do it as long as you can get everything copied over. As long as it is not a bootable cd or you will have to do it a different way!
