Corey Taylor answering "Why did your scream change throughout your career?" Part of the Q&A session of his Seven Deadly Sins Tour 11-15-11 in Phoenix, AZ at the Crescent Ballroom
I'm glad he corrected them. Are people really not aware of how miserable alcoholism is? Drinking that amount is not a party. It's suicidal. Been there myself. Now in recovery.
I'm glad Corey corrected the crowd when they cheered him on for how much he used to drink. NOBODY should get to the point of drinking 3 bottles of Jack a day.
@@_Devil_Hunter_ , i assume he is referring to a standard bottle of Jack which is 750ml; at 3 bottles a day, that's more than 2 LITRES.... of 80 proof whiskey!!! Yes, that's dangerous. That shouldn't even be a question (Hell, even that much Coca-Cola every day for an extended time frame would be dangerous to your health).
@@_Devil_Hunter_ on both sides of my family dating back more Generations than you can count have been alcoholic's and drug addicts. In between my memory my father's and my mother's memory our great-grandfathers grandfather's and parents we're alcoholics along with the nefarious drug addict that came along for the ride. I will tell you from first-hand experience from the outside looking in that it doesn't matter what bottle of liquor you hold in your hand 3/5 or more a day it's a very horrible thing. I recently got the worst news of my life in decided to carry on my family Legacy by Drowning my sorrows in 1 1/2 days and drink more than I have in a week (over 3.5 litres) when I was partying. It's nothing to be proud of. If there was one thing I can tell anyone from watching people that were supposed to take care of me is you will never find the answer to your problems in the bottom of a bottle or any other drug. Please do not follow my family's path our only hope is that my father and me woke up. Well I'm still a little groggy.
Vlad Kravich think about it like this: beer usually has 4% alcohol in it (in my country), Jack Daniel’s has 40% alcohol in it. I don’t know about you, but i get pretty drunk after drinking like 3-5 bottles of beer. Drinking 3 Jack Daniel’s might be a bit too much, even through 24 hours
@@masterknife8423 Oh man you must be the best singer. I'd love to hear some of your stuff with a 9 member band that you recorded during a tour for your solo work. I bet it kills!
@@iamwhoyousayiam6773 You say that as if you’re trying to suppress his Jealousy. The thing is he’s probably not jealous. You’re making an assumption about his comment. It’s called having your own opinion. How does his opinion on Coreys masks equate him with being jealous? I personally think they look bland too but it doesn’t mean I think the guy sucks at his career or that Im jealous of his work. I love Slipknot but I too gotta admit that some of those masks don’t look cool. Yes I love slipknot but I don’t have to like everything about them. Is that too much for your NPC brain to understand?
@@chris7285 bro that honestly made no sense... I'm just telling you so you don't stick your opinion out there so foolishly in the future 😂. Masks equate to jealousy??? Nobody said anything like that. His(IAmWhoYouSayIAm) point is that Corey works hard. So, for someone to watch a q&a video(about Corey) and share an opinion that Corey doesn't deserve attention is damn near blasphemous because he puts in the most effort to get that attention, not as to knock anyone else in the band....but it's like if he's really your least favorite member, and your opinion is that he doesn't deserve this attention; WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU HERE?
LOL that was kind of funny but really what a bunch of a**holes. Alcoholism is no joke I experienced it at some point in my life and its sad but i'm glad for people who recover and can talk about that as Corey does. I think he is cool guy.
It’s cool how he doesn’t let the crowd just cheer for dumb shit like the party life. Dude is real and admits it’s bad and makes sure they know it. Respect.
But drinking like that isn’t always a party if at all. It’s just self destruction. Yes he did it before shows which I guess can be seen as a giant party but he even said it himself. He was doing it to cover up something else in his life that was causing problems. Drinking is advertised as a social lubricant and a way to become the life of a party but what they never or rarely advertise is how it can ruin your life and they refuse to show you this side in ads for obvious reasons 💰. If you’re drinking just to be cool like an NPC then you wouldn’t understand. I was an extreme alcoholic and I would drink like him but I was using to cover up my social anxiety problems. Eventually it caught up with me and I got a DUI but even before that I got fired from my job for being drunk at work. When I would drink I wouldn’t even try talking to people. I would drink and get drunk just in case someone tried to socialize with me then I wouldn’t seem so socially awkward or feel uncomfortable during normal conversation. I didn’t wanna be cool I just didn’t wanna feel scared.
Because the people who were cheering are full blown idiots and are probably raging alcoholics themselves so why should they care. Good for you Corey 👍 hes definitely changed a lot since I first saw him years ago in 99
Hrs a smart dude. A little egotistical bit really smart and logical approach to everything in life. Read his books they are funny cool and enlightening. Nothing groundbreaking but a dude I could have a beer with
jesus what an awful crowd, they are just cheering whenever he says anything. He could've told a story about a child being beaten and they would be cheering.
It's pretty bad that people were cheering when he said he was drinking 3 bottles a day. And then Slipknot fans are always saying "why don't they go back and do the things they did during Iowa? They were so much better." Bear in mind people, if you haven't heard this before, Corey was so messed up back then that while recording the song "Iowa" he was in the studio, fully naked, cutting his chest with broken glass.
MetalFreak2000 iowa’s still my favorite song and has been for a few years. it’s so guttural and dark. i know they’ll never truly make another iowa but it’s such an important symbol for physically and mentally hitting rock bottom
It wasnt because the drinking, the producer Ross told him to go to a darker place he normally wouldnt have gone to in the name of getting that heavy emotion necessary for the song
I know there's recordings and videos of the Iowa sessions but remember that was there darkest time most likely they have no interest in releasing any of the videos plus the members may never want to watch that themselves
The thing I appreciate about Iowa’s vocals is that Corey put ALL of his fury, anger, and violence into his performances and you can hear it in his voice. It serves as a beautifully ugly time capsule to listen to and hear raw emotion. Corey’s vocals now are still stellar and we still get to have those recordings.
At every video I watch there is always a voice of some woman screaming through the whole entire thing which is weird because they are all at different shows, I think she goes to every show Corey does
@@dhaddine5472 Or people who put blanket statements on trump supporters because the democratic party is such a fine, upstanding group that's never done anything wrong. You're all morons for choosing sides and fighting with each other over politics. "Oh, you're not on my side and believe exactly everything i do? Go fuck yourself, you're a piece of shit."
Right... Corey is so self-obsessed that he can't admit he had no idea how to scream properly and he destroyed his vocals. It wasn't a choice like he paints here.
Crazy how the band hates Iowa but it saved my life! High school 9th grade, my mama took me to Best Buy to get it on released day. Had a cd party lol at my boys house and man we were none stop playing this album! Still jam to it to this day!
Hey I love slipknot and I've meet some great people in the fan base but please, please for the love of all that's around us stop asking them to "Go back into their Iwoa mentality" we both know how much of a messed up time it was for them. Don't cheer for alcoholism, drug abuse and the rest of the mess. Cheer for their recovery. I mean jeez the audience woulden't shut up. Corey would say "So I went to the store and got milk" and they would cheer like there's no tomorrow. Let the man finish a sentence.
You know why people say that? Because the music was better then. Now that that they're all sober and Joey, Paul and Chris are gone the music is not so great.
@@user-gn4ts8jb7n Yeah it sucks. It's the sad reality of the music world though. All bands do their best shit when they're loaded. Then they get sober and the music suffers. Few exceptions for this.
@@george_denbrough Sadly, I have to agree with you on this. This is why the music industry pressures drug/alcohol use if anything. I know so many bands that were loaded and just became a Pillsbury doughboy of the band they once were after coming clean (Electric wizard REALLY changed a lot since their early days) so it's like, I don't know. Lineup changes also messes with this big time
Hell yeah! I’m proud of #8, it’s difficult to admit when things aren’t working out for you. Like the booze. I wasn’t drinking 3 goddamn bottles of Jack a day but shit had to change for me. I hated hurting the ones I care for and also importantly myself. Man much respect!
I respect the fact that he corrected the crowd when they cheered at how much he was drinking a day. No its not good at all. Period. I don't care what a document says I lost my mother because of her drinking. It put her in the hospital, on life support and then forced me to shut the machines off. Conquering that demon is hard. Some like Corey Taylor win. Some lose like my mom. So mad respect to him for correcting them on that.
The fact they started cheering him saying he drank 3 bottles of whiskey a day is just sad. The man is opening up to his fans but they aren't giving a shit to what he's saying
That moment when Corey realises he has some mest up fans. He talks about his addiction and everyone Hell YEAH woow and whatever. Lot of respect to him for that 💯
My parents: “THAT’S THE DEVILS MUSIC, THEY’RE TERRIBLE ROLE MODELS” Corey Taylor: “Hey man, getting sober helped me become a better person” Like…. The behind-the-scenes lives of some of the most notorious and high-profile names in metal tend to be some of the most oddly wholesome when they talk about what was going on with them. The music is SO FUCKING ANGRY but they honestly just want you to be happy and healthy in the pit.
He absolutely can do a high pitch scream, still. I saw him with Korn this past summer and he busted out a high pitch scream when they played A Different World
He can probably do it in short bursts, like on the albums. But he runs a risk of severely damaging his throat. He's done so already while making both the first two albums. He may still be able to pull it off, but he also needs to do it in a way that's better on his vocals cords.
