How Slipknot Suffered Through 'Iowa' + 'Vol. 3' 

Iowa is one of the heaviest albums out there. A lot of bands try to be heavy but the angst and the anger come from an imagined place. Iowa is so intense and crushing due to the mental place the band members were at during the recording. All other albums pale in comparison.

The whole record is an insane war. You can smell the anger while you listen to it.

Iowa is my all-time favorite album. I empathized with the anger and aggression when I was younger and now I have a deep appreciation of the "chemically-unbalanced" nature that Corey described. These guys created brutal violent art from pure chaos and drug-fueled madness. It's beautiful. 🤘🏻

Iowa was an album that straight up kicked my energy into overdrive before playing in my high school football games.

I just saw them in Cleveland, and they put on amazing show. I was always a fan of the band, but never saw them live. Definitely will see them again.

I went to Ozzfest 2001 Toronto, Canada and I remember them playing a few new songs, just weeks before Iowa was released. The crowd wasn't sure how to react to them because it was our first time hearing them. But now, man, I wish it wasn't the first time hearing them because those songs were People=Sh*t, Disasterpiece, New Abortion.

Gone through a lot in my post-high school days when this record came out. THIS IS STILL MY FAVORITE FUCKING SLIPKNOT ALBUM EVER, BAR NONE!!!

Hands down my favorite metal album of all time. I could go listen to the heaviest of the heaviest shit out there, and it still doesn’t touch Iowa. The rawest album ever recorded. Just pure hatred and angst. It’s palpable. Beautifully disgusting. Corey’s screams come from a different place than any other metal vocalist. The beauty is, his voice has returned to that place.

It was definitely an exciting time being a Slipknot fan during the Iowa era. We were treated to some good times back then.

I wouldn't appreciate Metal as much as I do if it weren't for Slipknot. Those guys will forever hold a special place in my heart. \m/

Learned how to GROWL listening to The Track Iowa ironically. I was just feeling it one day . And towards the end when Corey starts going off at the end .I just started GROWLING / FRY SCREAMING AND I WAS LIKE FUCK . CHIMAIRA HELPED too

Loved the 1st album and Vol 3 but never really warmed to Iowa it had some good tracks but maybe I don't know if the band were in a better headspace maybe it woulda been a better album...Vol 3 though such a good album so many cool tracks.

in these days, slipknot is not as good at the past, how nice when Corey said. Paul egy Joe wrote Duality, Before I forget, Vermilion.. Guys were legend... every good songwriter is know not in the band ...

I could tell. Iowa is dark and beats you over the head relentlessly and is not nearly as dynamic or fun to listen to as their other records. I know Iowa is held in high esteem, and it is a good record, but it fell short of what I expected. The band did what I hoped it wouldn't do. Luckily they found themselves again on their subsequent releases.
