This almost made me cry... we need more artist like this, we need more music like this. Just simply flawless, And Im only 14 and I relize this! I aspire to be like Corinne Bailey Rae
this just touched something in my soul don't know what it is but it's making me a bit teary eyed. It feels like she's singing her entire soul it's not a performance it's her unleashing her soul.
her version gives the song a completely new direction, knowing that she did this after her husband's death. I don't know about you guys but I feel a bit the blues present but at the same time it's uplifting, like she'd be saying with a soft smile: "I have no other choice but to go on and I'm looking forward now. it's the way it is." Corinne, you rock!
i found this accidently about a year ago....., after being diagnosed with liver cancer (well, active cancer cells in my liver, just found out today) i've come back to listen to this about 10 times...tosay, i feel her emotion....and that's why this such a beautiful version...her emotion.....
Back six months later. Corinne's version still touches and moves me just as it did when I first heard it. 04.19.2022 Back again in November 2023!! 😁 Listening like it's my first time. Still amazed. Still smh in awe. ❤🎤 🎹 🎵🎶 📯❤
🤭🤭🤭Go head Corinne! Go head girrrrl! Y'all SANG that song!!! Yessssssss!!! Whew!!!!!! I sure hope the original writers and Doris Day (before she passed away) had an opportunity to hear this Soulful version! Mannnnn Oh Mannnnnn Oh Mannnnnn.....ABSOLUTELY ONE of THE BEST renditions and boy, are there many! I just found that out today!
If I thought I would hear music as good as this at somewhere like Glastonbury I'd be there lie a shot but the thought of paying out piles of money to sleep in a muddy field for three days and listen to bands whose music just doesn't do it for me doesn't exactly appeal, but this is one of the most soulful bits of music I've heard in years, and I am a soul man through and through, but even better is the fact that she's a Leeds lass and if I go into town for a drink you're quite likely to see her out or possibly even hear her jamming with friends. Quality in every respect.
Stumbled onto this video and boy am I ever glad I did....never heard of her until now....she is amazing! She is not only beautiful but also extremely talented! I really enjoyed the guy singing along with her too. He is wonderful. The song is an old one but their interpretation made it brand new!! Thanks for uploading and now I have to go listen to everything I can manage to find by Corinne Bailey Rae!!! I will google her to learn more about this artist!
Thank You for this! Just heard a portion of this on a commercial and all I could think of was my Mom. Just found your video and Love this! thank you as I ball my eyes out. I miss her so
@matthewmwolff - Thanks for identifying the arrangement! I did not realize this is the version that was recorded by Sly & The Family Stone. I agree it's an amazing performance nonetheless.
WHOA!!! One of the most beautiful performances she's ever done. You could definitely see all the emotion in her face while she sang.......she really let us have it ;)
I have listened to this vid for a year now---can't get enough! She' a brilliant star on this earth! Her beauty and grace only surpassed by her wondrous talent-- just sayin...
Saw her at Somerset House last nite - absolutely awesome gig. She finished with this - blew me away. Hoped I would find it on RU-vid - thanks for posting, IMO her cover of this song is just genius.
This performance which is simply awesome (her and the band and the very fantastic John McCallum) makes me feel that she is a talent comparable to Nina Simone and will be rocking it out until she falls off the perch. Love, love. love her.
th***** This is Sly's arrangement...wow, I must be getting old. I'm trying hard to remember them singing this. I can 'hear' them singing it, but I'm not sure if that's actual memory or my mind 'creating' the song based on all their incredible sounds that are floating around in my head. I suppose in the end it doesn't really matter though. Corinne's performance has it's own special charm, and even Doris Day's rendition is special, albeit because of its association to the film, The Man Who Knew Too Much. But thank you so much Kimberly for the information about Sly. How's he doing, by the way? I remember a few years ago he was broke and living in his car. So sad.
I didn't know he was broke and living in his car which is all the more reason why I feel it was worthy of being mentioned. I often wonder how so many original singers wound up destitute. So sad.
***** Yeah, sad indeed. But musicians and drugs have such a long and destructive connection and I remember seeing Sly way, way back in the day, at the Spectrum in Philly, and it was hard to believe that some of them - especially the drummer, as I recall - could even remain conscious let alone play so well. Also regarding Corinne's lovely covers, after I read your post I listened to her version of "I Only Have Eyes For You" and it's definitely a salute to The Flamingos' classic...sha bob sha bop...I couldn't find anything recent on Sly, but I have a feeling he's not still living on the street. There's a documentary, "Dance To The Music" that I've never seen but since it's dated 2008 I doubt it would contain anything that would help anyone find out where he is and what he's doing today.
***** this song was written in 1956, and has been covered by so many in so many different ways. Why can't you just acknowledge the sheer talent on that stage?
4:09 Look at Corinnes face. When the music takes you there, that´s the best feeling in the world. What´s it all about, what you strive for. Nothin´ beats that feeling, not drugs, sex, recognition. Nothing.
