Thank you for these wonderful mini-lectures! As a third-year optometry student, I find them very helpful - a nice way to refresh some of the info. Could you make a segment on differences between hydrops and bullous keratopathy? It will be greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Valuable information good sir. My 7 year old corneal graft has recently been acting up. I get redness and pain and partial corneal swelling. But the pain and swelling go away in 6 hours if i use a steroid eye drop. Might be best if i re-visit the good people at the eye hospital. thanks again

Yes, we always advise our corneal transplant patients about the warning signs of corneal rejection and ask then to return if they notice any. The easiest way to remember the warning signs is "RSVP": Redness, Sensitivity to light, Vision decrease, or Pain. Hope it's going well for you now. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Where awake during your eye graft surgery, and did your eyes hurt after surgery? I’m thinking about getting a graft for my eye, because of corneal hydrops, but scared about being put to sleep during surgery. I had one eye doctor tell me it’s okay to be awake during eye surgery, but depends on the surgeon’s preference. Lastly, how long did it take for you to see out that eye with graft after surgery?

When corneal hydrops does not improve significantly, our patients may have to have a corneal transplant in order to improve vision. I hope your father is doing better now.

I have kc and it’s advanced In both eyes. I have an assessment I’m a month and yesterday I started getting cloudy vision in my left eye because that’s the cornea that’s scarred. After the assessment I need a transplant

i have corneal hydrops about three weeks now, and my doctor said the hydrops is so bad that i need a corneal graft. He give me two antibiotic drops muro 128 and vigamox. What do you think is the best solution?
@IsaacPorterMD

Once the swelling decreases from hydrops, there may be scaring left over in the cornea. If this scaring is in the center, a corneal transplant may be the best way to restore vision. If the scaring is more peripheral and does not interfere with vision, patients may be able to have improved vision again with glasses or contacts. Sometimes the cornea ends up being less steep after an episode of hydrops. Thanks for the question, hope you are doing better!

Without looking, hard to say what may be the best way for you to gain further vision. We always recommend our patients to seek a second opinion when they are not sure about their best treatment. Hope you can find some options.

So I've posted before on another video about dark black dots being on both my eyes. And I'm happy to say I saw the eye doctor yesterday and he said they were the veins traveling down into my eye causing the layers to be visible.... However I've heard that they can be abnormal growths.. So I'm conflicted here haha. What do u guys think?
@IsaacPorterMD
@IsaacPorterMD 9 лет назад
I'd have to take a look myself to see, but I have seen dark spots as your eye doctor described before. Blood vessels can have a darker appearance in the area that they go into the sclera (white part of the eye).

if cxl has been performed already on both eyes and hydrops never occurred prior to cxl....is the patient now in the clear from hydrops since the kc isn't progressing ?
@IsaacPorterMD
@IsaacPorterMD 7 лет назад
I don't think we could say completely in the clear, but hydrops would be much less likely to occur following corneal collagen crosslinking since we would hope that the cornea is stable after the treatment.

Hi, So this was really helpful when trying to explain to others whats going on with my eyes. I have had my corneal hydrops since August 2017 and nothing has worked as far as treatment for it to help heal. There was at one time a suggestion of doing a corneal transplant but that is now off the table and im back on miro drops which stopped doing anything months and months ago. Do you have any ideas of what else i could possibly to help this heal, year and a half of this ruining my life and basically keeping me under constant house arrest is long enough. Thank you

I have keratoconus. I got one in my right eye when I was 20. Took 3 months to heal. Got the second one in my left eye at 25, took 6 months to heal. I was on a steroid and an antibiotic eye drop. These hydrops are no joke. Now I’m 32 and they are still there, but they’re scars.

I had three Cornea transplants in my left eye 40 years ago all three rejected. I’ve now had one in my right eye and only Partially successful. I’m now 60 and legally blind. I do agree transplants are no joke

@@araratsuxs I’m very sorry to hear that. This is why I haven’t got the surgery yet because I’m afraid of rejection. I’ve have allergies too.
