Hi great video , I am 48 years male , have advanced RP , had cataract removed , dry eyes almost every other day , I usually feel severe discomfort before rain / rainy situation … it’s little difficult to explain , can u take the trouble to advice me , I am in dire need of it
After cataract surgery on both eyes in 2021, I've had dry eyes for 2 years; itchy, watery & poor vision. Nothing helped until I tried Systane Complete PF - all good now, no more dry eyes! I also take Omega 3 each day but it was the Systane that really made the difference, truly amazing. Great video, very informative. Thank you.
@@medhikasingh6327 yes I do but I don't think that it's due to dry eyes, cuz I have seen many people with pretty healthy eyes also getting tears while cutting onions
I used to have dry eyes. I went to the doctor, got some meds.... Finally did my own research and discovered dry eyes are from a Vitamin A deficiency. I took a bunch of Vit A and no my dry eyes. Now I take cod liver oil. A lot more than the recommended dose. Thank you
Outstanding! Generic advice such as “use heat and massage” is commonly thrown at patients, but most doctors don’t take the time to demonstrate the specific procedures required. More online docs are beginning to remedy this, and your demonstrations and recommendations are some of the best. Many thanks!
I’ve been suffering from severe dry eyes for 3 months, and have spent $$$ on different eye drops. Since I’ve started to use the Systane drops with the mineral oil, I’m finally feeling almost completely normal again. You’ve been my life saver, thank you!
Gotta tell y’all..my husband recently bought a tiny convertible sports car…and after half-way thru our first extended ride out in the country….my eyes were a mess!! Even though I wear heavy duty wrap-around old lady sunglasses, the wind factor whipped the fluids right out of my eyes! Luckily I had generic drops with me, but had to spend most of the ride home with eyes closed and not enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery (oh, what greenery!) So - lesson learned!
@MichaelRChuaMD. Dr. Chua, it is such a pleasure to be taught by a talented, well spoken, organized, practical eye doctor who understands his craft and can communicate at a scientific level, understandable for most. Fellow PENN graduate. Wish you were in Florida, I would be a patient. But for now, I will subscribe to your newsletter. Thx for this informative content!
I'm having dry eyes for the last few months. It's getting better now. None of the eye drops (Systane, homeopathy) worked for me. It's in the nutrition- Omega 3's & 6's. I ate cage free 10 eggs made with butter every week for few weeks. Also, consumed sesame seeds & hot cocoa every day. Blurriness is going away. You will have to give few weeks before you see the effects of nutritional foods.
Hens are left outside so they have access to natural foods plus freedom makes them happy. Happy means healthy.. congested barns can make them sick. Organic cage free eggs taste much better than the regular ones. It has less saturated fat & more protein...just like grass fed butter.- cows are eating grass not grains...grass fed butter is tastier.
I want to add to this list of drops. AT THIS TIME, been on cequa rx. Drops 2x’s a day, Tyrvaya nasal spray rx 2x day, Optase OTC drops and lid cleanses PRN, I have tried almost all of them it seems. Optase has been best OTC for me. Definitely PF. Stay away from preservatives and especially BAK. Read labels. I personally can’t use retinol, very limited skincare and no makeup on eye’s especially. At my age I need something. Because of all of this craziness, my self esteem is on the ground. Watch all eye clinics. Now most are including aesthetics in their practices. Very costly. Be mindful of EVERYTHING you use on your face. In my case, it hurts in every way. Education is key and you have to be your own advocate for your self. I’m finding this in all areas of medicine.
I have some horrendous dry eye symptoms. I tried washing my eyes with diluted baby shampoo but it a dried my lids and lashes out making a itching and symptoms worse. I have found that collodial oatmeal well rubbed into a soft damp washcloth works well to clean my eyes without drying my lids and lashes out. I have since discovered Garnier micellar water with glycerin and rosewater. It is also a good in between washes way to get rid of grit and dirt on the eyelids and lashes. Please note: this product is not meant to be used in the eyes. I use Refresh liquigel and Refresh gel drops they give better release than most eye drops. Both of these drops are much less expensive on Amazon. Blue light blocking glasses help me when I have to expose my eyes to light. I use a humidifier. Unfortunately I have had to give up reading and TV and limit my phone exposure severely. I hope this information can help somebody.
Thank you so much Dr. Chua for sharing these valuable tips. I am currently under the care of an ophthalmologist and everything you shared is in agreement with my care plan. I had previously tried separate drops and the Systane tears have by far been the best drops. Your video is the 1st I have seen on this topic so kudos to you for sharing your expertise in this space.
Have been diagnosed with ocular rosacea and blepharitis. Have been absolutely miserable. Been to eight eye specialists and still no results. Would vitamin A, flaxseed and Omega 3 vitamins help? If not do you have any recommendations? One opthalmologist prescribed Tacrolimus ointment to put inside my eyes and she said it was not FDA approved, the pharmacist told me not to put the medicine in my eyes because it would cause blindness. Rest assured I am never going back to her, she was the worst doctor!!
I had the most alful dry eyes ever I started taking Eskimo fish oil tablets every day and I put warming eye mask on them every night and morning I was able to give up all my eye drops. I can't believe the difference this made to my life I can even wear a little eye make up its giving me a new lease of life
New subby here. Thx doctor. Been suffering for a few months now with dry right eye. Will try the systane pf. Been using refresh recommended by a pharmacist for the last 2 weeks it helps but then the dryness came back especially early in the morning about 3am . Man it hurts..like if my cornea got slice with a razor blade
The 5 heat setting aroma season device I just looked up on Amazon said it goes from 104 to 140F so for that one you might want to use setting 2 or 3 for 20 minutes I am guessing and not the high setting.
Thanks for your tips! What is your opinions about turmeric/ curcumin and hyaluronic acid supplements? My eyes are strained, very sensitive to lights ( especially neon lights and car lights at night) and sun, dry air, wind 😢and there are quite a lot of visible red veins. Sometimes they’re pink but when I go outside in the windy days or using computer, they’re really red. My eyes were beautiful and now I’m unconfident to make eye contact with people.😢 please let me know how to get rid of these RED veins
I hope your eyes are better. I feel the same way. People have always complimented my eyes, but they've been red and dry lately, and I don't want to look people in the eyes because of it.
Thankfully I'm Scottish and all my prescription medicines are free already paid for through national insurance so nobody has to pay for medical care, better a few pounds each week than thousands when your ill.
THANK YOU, Dr. Chua! I am completely overwhelmed by trying to decide what drops, regimen, etc. is right for me. I feel like I've tried EVERYTHING. My opthalmologist seems a bit dismissive (" It's one of those, 'my eyes are getting older' things"). I'm 72, but, it affects the quality of my life; so much discomfort. I wore contacts for many years and had cataract surgery six years ago. I will watch this entire video..thank you SO MUCH for this and for your caring, compassionate manner. So comforting. Rosemarie 💖🙏🏻
I just ordered the iTear device. My eye doctor wrote an Rx for me. It’s arriving in a couple of days and I pray it will work for me. It increases tear production by stimulating a nerve for 30 seconds (on each side of the nose) twice a day.
I am nearly 73 and responded to this video earlier - very informative. In May 2O23, I began to use Systane Complete PF 2x a day and haven't had dry eyes since. I had cataract surgery in 2021 and have had dry eyes since. Do try Systane Complete PF - fantastic product!
My doctor recommended a microwave heat mask with the heavy beads to do each morning and night + tea tree oil wipes. So far so good. I’m going to get the drops this doctor recommends in this video as well.
I had dry eyes for years spent a fortune on eye drops. Now I am using organic castor oil every night put a few drops on my eyelids and after a few weeks my dry eyes are gone! Try it it works (also my short eyelashes are longer now). Doctors won’t tell you this!!!
Hi I had my eyesight dissapear 6 years ago in one eye was treated with luventis but the other drops had alot of BAK. Fast forward last year dx with glaucoma taking a glaucoma drop with BAK. My dry eye began then now I'm at the point I can barely open my eyes in a.m. if there was no wetting drops it would be excruciating. My eye drs don't take it seriously. Is there a glaucoma drop with less or no bak ?
I dislike the newer bottles. They require a lot of pressure and then too much comes out and I end up blowing through the product quickly. But I also dislike the single-use containers because they're so wasteful. What to do.
Thank you so much I bought that warm compress mask that you told us about and I use the two times it was so much better on my dry eyes and then about a month later I had to do it one more time. My eyes are great humidity in here is great. Thank you so very very much for all your research. Cuz none of the research I did before this helped me🎉🎉🎉🎉
Today was my first day watching your videos. I looked at other peeps, and when you said you're not a paid spokesperson, I subscribed to your channel. I do have a question (hopefully you'll reply.) Do daily wear contacts cause dry eyes? I've worn contacts for years with no issues until dryness recently.
The only thing I don't understand is how does the solution form the three layers over the eye if it has been mixed? I assume they also use some emulsifier to make the oil and water mix, so it's difficult for me to visualise the mechanics of action. But finally, Systane Complete is available to buy in the UK, and I started using it. Hopefully, it will bring some relief!
I have severe dry eyes. I use serum tears, wake up about 7 times at night cause I feel my eyes very dry. I also use tracolimus and did jet plasma. The problem is that I got meibomian gland atrophy after my lasik surgery… it destroyed my life.
How long do you have to do warm compress? I been doing on and off for couple weeks and it’s so annoying… if I have to do this for the rest of my life I’ll look for more expensive options
Depends on how bad your eyes are? whats ur prescription and how bad are your dry eyes? Usually, you do eye compresses 20 mins daily, usually at night is easier. After that, its good to massage your eyes and put eyes drops in. However, a good method to relieving dry eyes is manuka honey(eye drops). You can search it up on utube and see if you might consider it. Coconut oil is also good for your eyes. Omega-3 is good too for improving vision. the best way to get rid of vision problems is just getting better eyes. if you dont have any diseases (like glaucoma,eg) then you can naturally improve your vision by eating certain foods(especially green leafy vegetables)/vitamins/drinking water, excersising and reducing screen time.
I've had dry eye for many years. I used to use restasis, but when I started a new job my new insurance wouldn't approve restasis (which costs about $400/mo.). I use Systane and tried using the new eyedrop bottle, but I was unable to squeeze the bottle to get even one drop out. I gave up after several tries. I use the individual vials, even though it's a waste. I also use a humidifier in my bedroom. I don't have this problem when I visit my mom in Florida which is very high humidity.
@medhikasingh6327 Hi. I'm not sure what you mean, but I do have tears when I cry and sometimes when chopping onions. I have Sjogrens disease - one of the symptoms is dry eyes/dry mouth.
Systane didn't help me at all. But I found out it was air conditioning in my house that was my problem. On days when I can do without airconditioning and can open the windows I'm not bothered so much with dry eye. The AC was drying out my eyes drastically.
Thank you, Dr Chua, for this very helpful information. I have a question, how many times the heat and massage procedure on the meibomian glands needs to be done to have stable results or it needs to be done for the rest of my life? My second question is, is it true that retinol creams when applied on eye lids can damage meibomian glands? Many thanks again, I subscribed to your channel and looking forward to seeing more of your informative and helpful videos 😊
Dr. Michael gave more detail explanation regarding the heat and message procedure in another video. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wmMlhm-5y6g.html
@@nunamor5380 I tried a very personal approach. Having an Meibomian gland expression done by a doctor, while using castor oil ( natural, cold pressed hexan free) as eyedrops together with MSM eyedrops. The MSM is said to help the lens , while the castor oil helps the tearfilm staying in place. If you had dry eyes for to long the meibom glands might no longer be working properly, and you need a fatfilm to keep the watery tearfilm and the mucus in place. Krill oil and zinc orally to help the eyes from the inside . I am not a doctor. Plaese do research every single idea/ information on youre own just to be sure.
What about having autoimmune diseases like Hashimotos that contributes to dry eye...anything in addition to what you mentioned? Besides Restasis or other RX?...my eye spec recommended the brand Refresh with flaxseed oil...to take with Restasis..?
I AM SO GRATEFUL THAT U TOOK ALL THIS TIME TO HELP ALL OF US!In your other video with the timing and temps of the compress and you actually testing it out-I am amazed at your dedication!IT HAS BEEN APPRECIATED AND ALL INFO WILL NOW BE USED!I have been so lost about how long and how warm to do the compresses and now I have a starting point.Massage simple and easy!I came off of restasis today as it made it much worse.Going to use my systane preservative free in the special bottle!THANKU SOOOO MUCH .I am going to report back you are a good caring person and what EVERY DR should be!From ellen
Ok I would like to report to everyone and the doctor that I received my aroma season eye warming device. I started using it on the next to the highest setting which they do not give you the temperature for. I’m gonna have to call the company to find out that warm but not too hot 10 minutes. I used it three days in a row once a day. The reason I did 10 minutes was because I wanted to see if using it for less time would give me a result. Well, it certainly did.! it’s been a week since then and I’m not using it and my eyes are perfect ! No running , no redness, no discomfort. I’m waiting to see how long I can go without repeating the heating and massage. So it took less time for me to be able to heal my eye for now because as we know dry eye can come and go. very happy and could not get this help for two years from my own eye doctor or anyone else that was in the practice thank goodness for people who take the time to put their knowledge out for the rest of us.!!! I will report back to let people know if it comes back but now I know if it does that I have a protocol to follow that’s effective and fast thank you again!!!
As a teenager with dry eyes, it’s so annoying waking up with a red eye. It’s super dry and I’ve tried many different drops. I’m also on omega 3s and use a humidifier but it’s still there.
How old are you? I've been experiencing dry eyes for about 2 years now since 2022 i don't know if it's because of the covid vaccine or prolonged screen time
MASSIVE MISTAKE! I was prescribed restasis for dry eyes. It didn’t work, but it did cause DRY MOUTH! Dry mouth happens while you’re sleeping, and no amount of drinking water makes it go away. It does not go away & the dry mouth totally destroys your teeth.
Hi! Because I watched your video and decided to buy the Systane Lubricant eye drops. I ordered from Amazon and received the items. But they've cloudy not clear like the others eye drops. I'm so confused. I don't know if you call it's milky color or its cloudy. Im still not use it yet. 😢😢😢And the items can not return.
I guess it is cloudy because it contains mineral oil AND water. Oil and water naturally don't mix. If you want to mix those two, you have to use a special process, resulted in a cloudy liquid called "emulsion". Emulsion is not very stable and could be separated into its original form (oil and water) if it is saved in the wrong environment (they need to be saved within a certain temperature range). Source: Personal experience. I used to work for a global food manufacturing company. They made emulsion syrup. It is safe for consumption, and it is delicious😋
Hi, thank you for all your videos. It has helped me better understand my MGD. I came across NovaTears Omega 3 eye drops and noticed on the box it states that this drop is 'antimicrobial'. Can you please let me know what it means that the NovaTears Omega 3 eye drops is antimicrobial? Thanks
Wait, if oil and water don't mix (09:26), how come Systane Complete PF could contain mineral oil (09:46) and water (10:02) in the same bottle. How does it work? Should we shake before each use?🤔
I am one where no eye specialists have been able to figure out. I'm going blind and I'm scared to death. They see nothing wrong with my eyes. I have seen two eye specialists with the same result they see nothing wrong. I am not diabetic and I have no cataracts they tell me. But I am pre-diabetic and not taking any medication or anything for it. My eyes are extremely hazy foggy for no apparent reason. And it's getting worse. Is there anything in your experience have you ever heard of this before? I'm very scared please help me.
@@docfaustus6303 oops !! Silly me 😂 Systane Balance Dry Eye Symptom Relief 10 ml in a small white plastic bottle with deep purple label . ( There are different Systane ones with other coloured labels ) Also have had prescribed : Hylo - Forte 0.2% ( intense lubrication ) Both are preservative and phosphate free . The Hylo-Forte are in a bigger bottle and last longer and easier to apply .Both can be bought on Amazon or from most high street chemists but mine are on repeat prescription from the glaucoma clinic that I attend every 2 months . Hope they'll hep you 🙂
I had dry eye syndrome for 3 years. I could not sleep any longer as my eyelids would be attached to my eyes. ALL that will help is to drink water with a ph of 7 every day, and cut out coffee and tea except Rooibos Tea is ok. My problem was solved within 3 days
@@Priyan0000 my symptoms are totally gone. Try and find bottled water with a ph of 7, it will be written on the bottle. Drink two or more glasses per day. Dont spend too much time in front of a tv or computer screen, this can also contribute to dry eyes. Cut out all other drinks, especially coffee. You may drink rooibos tea if you can buy it in your country.
I was totally hooked until I went online and looked at the Ingredients list on the box: propylene glycol. Some of the other things he is talking about are on the Inactive Ingredient list. Doesn't that mean they do nothing for you?
Thank you Dr . Just started having dry eyes a week ago thought maybe it was from vitamin B-1 or multi vitamins - live in Florida heat don’t know if that’s the problem - also it seems it take about 15 minutes for my eyes to be normal vision in the am - probably just old age - will go get those eye drops today - thank you again
I have that heat mask, and a much more expensive one. But..... 1) you are recommending a NON *MOIST* heat compress???? Every Doctor always says it needs to be MOIST, for some reason... 2) What about omega-3, and any possible nutritional deficiencies? Using drops and a mask is enough?
intelligent, informative, easy to understand, makes suggestions clear, not associated with any company, and all excellent advice. Thanks for being so straightforward and honest.
This one, in particular, burns my eyes really badly. Also, the short dropper doesn't fulfill its purpose. It I difficult to do it myself. I always go off my eyes, wasting drops. I do not recommend it.
thank you so much for this information I just bought that brand with hyoloranic acic for extra hydration. I would never have know the perservative in my Optrex brand was harmful. God Bless you always :)
Thank you so much for this video. May god bless you. I tried to find some information on RU-vid regarding dry eye drops but it's overwhelming lists of products and confusing unnecessary information. You explained so well, I am glad I found this video.
Thank you! I can’t wait to get these drops I was just diagnosed with Chronic Dry Eyes +1 in my right eye and the other eye is dry as well. I’m tire of red, watery, burning and slightly itchy eyes everyday. Thank you so much! I will give am update once I get the drops and a week or two goes by from using them 😊
I have dry eyes, along with glucoma, best treatment i find that works for me is the warm compresses, i use make up remover pads and warm water place them on eyes often as I feel nesscary, cheap and effective
Many, many thanks to you, Dr Chua! I followed your video, I applied your guidelines and my dry eyes syndrome is much better now. I'm from Europe and I appreciate it as being better medical advice than in my country even from an oftalmologie hospital. My syndrome was very severe, it took a few months to be better. Now I can read books again as it is my passion. Indeed Systane, the mask twice daily and the massage only in the evening work fantastic. I use 3 different types of drops plus an oftalmologic cream with vit A in the evening after the mask and the massage and in the morning (but in a smaller quantity and without massage). The nr of drops application dropped from 20 times daily to 5-6 times. God bless you!
In my 30 plus years of having dry eye, you are the only doc who knew exactly why my eyes were constantly irritated and still dry -- it was because of the BAK. I tossed all the drops with BAK and I've been using Systane Complete PF since this video and no more pain, burning, or rebound dry eye. Thank you!
hi I'm 13 year's old boy and don't have something to do to earn some bucks and maybe you can help me i got severe dry eyes according to my eye doctor (it's free check up) and it's so annoying i blink so much it hurt my mouth I don't how but i think i blink too hard that i stuck my tounge top of my mouth so hard that it hurt but I can't stop i want to stop it HEEELP MEEE AHHH😊
I lost my beloved brother ,I’m older than him,but in his funeral,I cried so much , That I think all my tears have disappeared ,even I have lost another 2 sister of mine, but I’m being so much cry i could not see one tear of my eyes, when I wake up I’m must try to open with my hands ,please I’m not in USA I’m in Iceland 🇮🇸😭
Love all these devices when they show 20-somethings using them and how gorgeous THEY look after! Oh Brother!!! Then a 50-something is shown with minuscule change . . . .
I noticed that reagent strips show that MMPs on the eyes. Why is there a strong and overwhelming immunological component? What is the CAUSE of this immunological pathology? Is this secondary to some immunological stimulation or some chronic infection?
When looking at drugstore products I go for the big names in pharma. No cheaper off shore brands . I've used those disposable drops and they're fine. Now I'm using blink and its fine too. I've used systane and its good too. I'm pretty sure that if I pay attention to drinking enough water every day, I dont notice dry eyes so much. Maybe its connected, I dont know. One thing I do not want to do is use anything made in India. I read a book about generic drugs, many, maybe most made in India. A German tv producer went to the neighborhood where these generic manuf were and the water near those buildings was filthy.
So great full I stumbled upon this video and your page! I regularly use Systane products but am definitely willing to try a few of the brands you mentioned, especially if they are a bit more budget friendly. These prices are NO JOKE for eye drops! 🎉
I like Miebo. It’s the ocular coating my doctor prescribed. Added benefit, when I miss putting the drop in the little “cup” I make with my lower lid it makes a great under eye moisturizer. 🤣
Yes. what my eye doc suggested and another one. Did systane,.worked. first time dry eyes, now used this bottle still have half.or.more.in bottle.went follow.up never mentioned my eyes dry. just, see you in 6 mos everything looks good. Give it a try
