The adventures of Suzie, Gail and Elsie...great comedy. All the favourite characters in this period of Corrie, Brilliant era loved ep 1 just like wheel tappers and shunters social club, filmed at the same studio I think. So innocent and funny back in the 70s Eddie calling Ray 'Pig Face' cracked me up....The Pram Race episode so silly but gentle fun...
Annie walker was not only a matriarch, but she was also a hypochondriac and a skiver too. The amount of times she had a migraine, flu, cold, or just went away short notice was plentiful, then she kicks Fred out of his bed at short notice.
@@seansmith445 That's right the actress who played her took 20 years off her age and got away with it until 1980 when it came out she was actually 81. It really upset her and she left not long after.
It was 15 years and you're telling half the story in a brief comment. She is Doris Speed. 'Got away with it' hahaha no-one thought she passed for 46 when it first aired. 20 years would've been even more laughable@@mikehudson8884
Years ago when I was just a mere youngster (a squillion years back) we did a sponsored pram push with work colleagues as Corrie characters and I was dressed up as Hilda Ogden, the pinny, the rollers, the headscarf, the lot, around a local country park. I didn't realise at the time because someone else organised it, but this was probably why, they had obviously seen it on here and thought it was a good idea.
Thank you so much for all the great episodes, at the risk of sounding greedy.... will you by any chance be uploading any 1979 episodes? If so that would be fantastic and if not well thanks again for all your uploads.
I always thought i was half Scottish half Irish through and through but i recently found out my great great grandparents were born in Warrington near Manchester wayhay
Such a shame that the function room disappeared in the next few years, it was a great place, I guess people were staring to notice that the physics of it were impossible, unless the Rovers was a TARDIS.
Something about Billy Walker that rubbed me up the wrong way. A very superficial character, a chancer and a shallow man unlike his dad, gentleman Jack.
Miss TLI1980 no truer word spoken...I cannot believe that they cannot have seen the ratings drop and all that has been said and written about the poor writing. acting and story lines that is now Coronation Street....does not resemble the writing, personalities, great wit of these old episodes
Both missing episodes are on Dailymotion. Simply enter in the DM search-bar `5-3-78` for the first missing episode and `5-8-78` for the second. Yes the month is the first number and the day is the second. For example May 5 1978.
17:48 Don't you think it's a bit weird that Deidre is ok with being felt up by a complete stranger in front of her husband considering it wasn't long ago that she was molested in the viaduct? Those two are a strange couple with their constant game-playing and arguing with eachother and other people. But it's not in the same way as the Ogdens - Ray and Deidre's twoing and froing is manipulative and cruel at times - more like Rita and Len's carrying on. Remember, Deidre's not that much older than Gail or Suzie but to hear her talk she's a woman of the world and knows better! And Ray's just the same. It's no wonder Tracey turned out the way she did!
Ray's sudden suntan... could it have come from Neville Buswell's sneaky visit to scope out his future home in America....? His days of being an actor are soon to end....
thank you so much for this it was here for years but sadly went i was gutted because i was lkooking for the guitar song thank you so much this is my fave epsiode do you no what song it its when anne kirby is dancing with that man abd ray talking to that girl.
Love Her or Hate Her You have to admit Annie Walker Is number 1 Queen of the Rovers Return! She radiates an aristocratic & supreme ruler of all she surveys with diplomacy and an iron will! Annie suffers no fools about her & underneath her impenetrable Armour is a sympathetic & giving & very caring lady! I always thought she'd stay at the Rovers till she was 100! I knew she left the " street" amid Some vindictive & awful slurs which were untrue but i think she was right to resign! To keep her good name & status she retired! But i think, sadly, it finished her after the many decades of acting on Corrie, she was badly treat! Just noticed from 1976 to mid 1978, Ray Langstons hair has gone from a lovely dark gloss to salt & pepper! Wonder why he left Corrie? He had a good part & could have set up as a rival to Len , With an off/on relationship with Deirdre! Marrying Ken after Ray, Deirdre Became a neurotic boring irritant & a moaning minnie of the highest magnitude! Ken was always a bore & pessimist! Although he played his part well, i think he currently holds the record for the longest acting career in a Soap! ( his son, Linus Roache is a very good actor!) Thank you Generation Gun 66 for your brilliant uploads Today ( day 4 of constant exclusive viewings of Corrie fr 1976 onwards) I cried twice today, the Ernest Bishop murder & trial, so sad & Emilys acting was 1st Rate! 2nd, when Elsie played her last episode before she left temporarily, in early 1978 when after reading her divorce from Alan Howard was final & her bar pick up from the scumball who thought she was a Lady of the Night! I wept my heart out in her heartbreaking scenes! Pat Phoenix's acting was incredible! AAA grade acting! There are VERY few things to make me cry in films & certainly not in a British or any other weekly Soap! But Corrie ticks all the boxes! Well at least these old ones do. There is laughter, tears, angst Anger, crime, betrayal, weddings Funerals, fights, friends, ploys, Scandals, schemes ( Stan & Eddie) Not these days, im informed, & my last viewing of Corrie ended with the arrival of the Battersbys I just didnt gel with these characters at all! That was it! I was never a Soap fan & only ever watched Corrie a British Institution! They"ll never create a Soap like Corrie, akin to these past episodes Dont know if its the marvellous acting, Characters or storylines I think its the writers! The past writers were magicians Modern writing is 💩 Compared to the quality of the past writers & producers As another commenter said; The writers of today's Corrie should definately look at these past videos to see how it SHOULD be done, learn from it & get some ideas. Get some good solid actors & match them to brilliant scripts & storylines! Im enthralled with these videos Regards 🇬🇧👧
Wasn’t mr Goodwin dereks boss later on in years at the paper factory or is it the wrong person? I love ❤️ these old episodes thank you 🙏 for the upload
4:26 Ena bossing Albert about. Pure comedy gems. Know it's only fiction, but hats off and respect to Emily, following Ernest's funeral. 2:12:15 Pram race looks like monster fun.
One or two posters have mentioned the current Corrie cast, and Emma Thompson, who's not short of acting ability herself, pointed out in a more general sense that many younger performers can't act but obtain work as their social media profile is popular. Ex-Bill stalwart Mark Wingett was asked for advice by a young actor and Mark posed the question did the guy want to act as if it was as important to him as breathing. The response was in the negative; he was in it for the cash and the celebrity status. A TV critic wondered some years ago if Corrie would be commissioned now as it was in 1960, with mainly older actors in everyday situations, You can imagine today's TV executives scoffing at such a notion, no doubt pointing out how times have changed and conveniently ignoring the ludicrous storylines of today's 'modern' Street, which are far removed from reality. No wonder fans deserted Corrie in vast numbers. TV bosses would have you believe this is due to more choice, as if millions are watching niche channels on a daily basis. The truth is viewer loyalty will only stretch so far and people dislike being treated like fools. Never mind the Cold War in 1978 - the tensions between America and the USSR were nothing compared to Albert Tatlock and Ena Sharples going toe to toe (Ena really should have pushed Albert in the pram race after a decent head start). Eddie's turn at the little do is a showstopper and there's a warm welcome from Stan to Hilda's old American pal - a lavvy flushing - and Mr O continued to be the genial host by snoring during the Yank's chat with Hilda. 😄 On a much more serious note, I hope I didn't hear two trumps from Eddie (surely not Mavis) at 2:31:26.
