I am noticing that suddenly a ton of dental videos and channels are recently bombarded with people who started recently having major tooth & gum issues (myself included) and no one else is realizing this. It's all the sudden. Look at several video comment sections, and there's thousands that are all recent within the last few months. I can't figure it out. It's like there are millions of us with dental issues and so many people can't afford to do anything about it and we are trapped in dental hell. This is crazy! I can't figure it out. Is it the pandemic that's lowering people's resistance? People just getting depressed so their health is deteriorating? Stress causing grinding which is causing gum and teeth issues? No one is talking about this!
Stress contributes to gingivitis, according to the ADA. Deterioration in diet as well as lack of routine dental care due to covid also contribute. Dental Diet book has an interesting perspective on why what you mentioning is happening.
Maybe people are raising their awareness on minimalistic yet very important issues like this, I now take my gum's health very seriously and avoid smoking as much as I can, because I could see that smoking would make my gums bleed and receed faster, and I'm just 21 years old.
Dental offices were largely closed or minimized during the pandemic, with many putting off treatment as well. It's economic stress on their end, as well as galvanizing those who've put off treatment
Just had this done in Northen VA last week. REQUEST another series of numbing shots AFTER procedure is completed. This lengthens numbness time after surgery and THAT IN ITSELF helps relieve pain in recovery later that day. ALSO, follow post op instructions religiously. I chewed too much this weekend and some of the collagen came out. You've GOT to be careful with eating for the first 3 weeks. And you will have a 1 day, 1 week, 3 week and 6 week (and 3 month?) followup appts. Costs about $5500 for roughly 6-8 teeth.
@@imeldacordova7908 it's good. I only recovered about 40% of my gum tissue, which I personally think could be my fault because I can't get myself to go on a liquid diet for 8 weeks (which you should do in order to avoid chewing motions which can cause the gum tissue to move at a time when it is trying to heal in place). Since I only recovered less than half the gum tissue, I opted for another $7000 in crowns which covered the other 60% that was left exposed. If there was another option that still allowed chewing within a week or two of surgery I think i would have gone with that instead.
Most likely bone loss. I have some and waiting forever to have my gum surgery and some bone grafts approved and hurts nonstop. I don't even have an estimate to save. Then when paid off I'm going with gum grafts which seems to cover more doing research.
I’m having some gum recession on my lower teeth due to having a fixed retainer and lack of flossing or diligent dental hygiene. I’m very concerned about my problem and i’m starting to experience tooth pain. I live in the lansing area and I have a dental appt next week, they will probably refer me to a periodontist, if they don’t do the pinhole technique in my area then I might be making a trip to southfield to see you soon. Gum grafts look very painful and invasive, and I would love to have a more updated procedure.
That's awesome. I smoke cigarettes pretty aggressively when I'm working on my book. The recession is mainly in the lower right. I just saw a price in West LA for $1,500 per quadrant, which is great; I might be required to get this prior to Invisalign. Thank you!
@@robaerto8154 Writing a book isn't that big of a deal, though mine is academically heavy. A lot of idiots write books each year. But when you work on a project like that and you're on so many stimulants, it's not that hard to start smoking again. In fact, I'm going to counseling for it on Saturday
I'm 26 and I have mild gum recession. I don't have gum disease nor bone loss, but I do overbrush. I definitely need to work on my brushing because I don't want to experience plaque buildup by my gums and I don't want them to recede and end up losing teeth.
I've read numerous comments, but unfortunately, I haven't found a single patient who underwent that pinhole surgery and shared their experience. It's disheartening and frustrating not to come across any feedback about it. 😢
I have receding gums on my three lower teeth and probably more I am from London I don’t have money and I have my dentist appointment on Tuesday NHS I don’t think I would want to live if my teeth come out I’m so so depressed at the moment that I just don’t know what to do please can someone help me
i feel the exact same way i fear so much for the future and what if i have to loose my teeth and the costs on future dental treatment but i’m sure you won’t have to loose all your teeth and even if you have to loose a couple there will always be a cheaper option and you could pay in monthly instalments and things , it’s going to be okay
Amazing results 😱! I enjoy a lot watching your videos! In case of mild gum recession (~1 mm) without notable bone loss or tissue between teeth... can healthy gums grow back after scaling (no periodontitis) and proper brushing/flossing technique? Thanks! Greetings from Mexico! 🙌🏻
Thanks for commenting! If the recession is very mild, you can definitely slow down or even stop the progression of it using proper oral hygiene techniques. If the recession becomes more severe, it becomes more difficult to reverse without treatment.
I was just at the dentist and was told that I have two teeth in particular that have 2mm recession. I have heathy teeth other then the recession. I know I grind my teeth at night so I will be getting a night guard.... is there anyway that I can stop the recession at 2mm or is it to late?
Is it possible to apply the pinhole technique when you have a filling covering the root of your teeth? A dentist applied the filling to protect the exposed root. I visited a periodontist and he told me that he does not suggest the filling remotion and a gum graft would not cover the filling, so the gum tissue would be thicker but the tooth would look bigger anyways. That's why I'm looking for a professional able to check if the pinhole technique is applicable to my case, and if the filling could be removed. I saw some videos where Dr Chao removes some fillings and applies his technique. This channel has been a great information source for me. Thanks in advance.
Fascinating surgery! I watched videos of this surgery and saw white-like gelly material put into the pinholes? What is that material? And does it integrate with the gum tissue over time? Or is it man-made material that just occupies the space?
The material that is place inside the Pinhole is a collagen material that helps thicken and rebuild the tissue. It does integrate with the gum tissue overtime.
Hey, dental hygienist here, no you wouldn't need to fill the abfraction, the gums would adhere to the cementum so popping a filling on it would actually be counterproductive
I've seen some work in protein lattice to grow artificial organs, is there a possibility in promoting gum growth by providing a substrate it can grow on/absorb after purposely promoting bleeding around the gumline?
Searching for PST reviews online, there are quite a few horror stories. Many people have mentioned a good amount of pain (unlike what they were told), severe bruising and swelling, and gums that start receding again a couple months after treatment. What's your thoughts on that Dr. Nemeth?
I had this done several years ago and dentist says it's fine. Just had it done on other teeth last week. Key for pain in recovery is to ask for ANOTHER series of numbing shots AFTER dentist is done. This lengthens numbness time afterwards and by that time pain medication actually works. The one I had done a few years ago did NOT include a 2nd series of shots afterward and no amount of percocet helped. I had to wait out the pain for about 4-5 hours. Get the 2nd series of shots afterward.
@@kurtreber9813you got pinhole or regular gum graft done? So seems like you've had it done twice already? Did you have good results from both times? I'm reading some pretty scary testimonials online.
With a balanced biochemistry and proper nutrients, gum tissue and the bone that gum tissues resides on can naturally grow back. Oral health is way beyond just "the mouth" and is a reflection of systemic health and what is happening biochemically. Nourish the whole mouth & body while you clean with Eucellus toothpowder!
Thank you for the video doctor Nemeth! Do you use stem cells in conjunction with the pinhole technique? I've read that it's a good combination and yields better results.
Hi Doc. Do you have any tip to control mouth clenching? I'm suffering from gum recession for about 4,5 months and whenever I get up in the morning, I have swollen gums. Turns out that I'm always clenching my mouth during sleep and when I'm not talking. Thanks
To be honest I might need this because my guns feel weird and I don’t want it to get worse :/ And I need braces so I hope in a few years everything ends well. (: thanks for informing!
Would I be a good candidate for this if I only have gum recession on one tooth? I am really dreading the idea of having to go for a traditional gum grafting surgery
Dear Dr Nemeth, I hope that you can answer this question in your next live session. I am thinking of doing pinhole for the lower front incisors/teeth. Does the specialist who does this procedure first clean up the deep pockets around the teeth before pulling the gums up? Because I wonder if germs will be trapped and cause future issue after the pinhole technique. Thank you.
Hi no didn't do it. Found out that there are some who actually did not benefit or even worse had other unexpected ill effects that require repair work. I guess like many things some may benefit some may not. It also depends on the case as well as the provider.@@EriPages
I’m wondering how this helps to the alveolar bone? Because this pinhole technique is only cosmetic procedure, right? Then what’s happening with the reduced bone, if there’s still some kind of bacteria the problem is still exists...
I have 3 dentists in my blood family and I have receding gums and even my own family dentists repeat that is my tooth brushing the cause of it and believe on it without a doubt like believing in Gods that don't exist but I strongly believe and with uncertainty that gum recession and or disease is caused by dentists "abrasive cleaning" that irreparably damages the microscopic relation between gums and teeth .... the fine lines between 2 different tissues and or materials, like gums and teeth, that coexist should not be disturbed the way dentist do in their routine abrasive cleaning of tartar .... gum tissue is very sensitive, much more so than any other kind of skin .... dentists should know and remember Michael Jackon who after a few plastic surgeries on his nose his nose stop reattaching itself and Michael Jackson had to use a nose prosthesis to cover his facial hole ... every dentists "abrasive cleaning" that bleed the gums is like a new surgery and one day this gum microsurgery stops gums from healing.... I had these irresponsible abrasive cleanings on my teeth by my nonfamily dentist twice each year .... I live in the USA and have not visited my family dentists in 22 plus years if you are wondering ..... presently I don't allow any dentist to clean my teeth anymore but my gums keep on receding even though I brush very carefully, less and without toothpaste .... deep canals continue to grow between my teeth and gums .... the canals and gum recession is mostly on the exterior and almost none on the interior..... can the dentist association even think dentist are a major cause of this gum recession? Will be difficult to accept even if there is a scientific study proving my non dentist idiotic opinion .... can dentists be 100% certain that tooth brushing etc is the cause of it? Thanks X3 for sharing your video.
Have you ever had orthodontic treatment done? I'm 4 months in adult braces, and seeing a LOT of gum recession. I've also read that people complain that braces cause them gum recession sometimes short, sometimes long term.
@HelderP1337 gun recession cured by orthodontiscs? Hmm? .... gum recession created by teeth displacement is a theory like many I and plenty of us have ..... Show me when you are fully cured, please. If you can, I would appreciate
@@marlonvite4152 If you are brushing without toothpaste and not doing the flossing and what you see is 'deep canals growing between teeth and gums' (these are probably so called peridontal pockets) and they are receeding then you have peridontal disease. And this will not be stopped by brushing gently. You would have to go to peridonist and get them to do root scaling. That is honestly very bad.
Hello! I actually have patients who come to my office from all over the world for The Pinhole Technique. However, if this is not an option for you, you can use this link to find a Pinhole Dentist in your area. pinholesurgicaltechnique.com/find-a-dentist/ I hope this helps!
hello have you ever herd of IMI Clinic Leeds uk they seem to be based on work done in italy what are your thoughts are they at your standard of work ? I am considering getting some work done but am sceptical of a laser being about to fix the gum disease I just got.
I wish you were in Tampa! Do you have any dentist that you would recommend here in Tampa Florida? I just got my braces off and have some recession on my gums. I definitely don’t want to do any gum grafting and would rather do the pinhole technique! What would you also recommend to make teeth stronger? Since getting my braces off yesterday my teeth are so sensitive and I think two of them are loose. I’m so worried that I may have bone loss and that all of my teeth are going to fall out. 🙁. I really want to go to a great dentist and not one who up charges or purposely messes up teeth to get more money out of the person... I heard some stories unfortunately... I’ve had braces for 9 years and would really love to have beautiful teeth.
Hello Ashley, if you just got your braces off yesterday, I would recommend that you wait a bit to see how your teeth and gums settle and acclimate. Its natural for your teeth to be a bit sensitive after braces. Do you feel like your gum is starting to recede?
Joseph R Nemeth DDS & Associates I think maybe one tooth at the bottom looks like it’s receding but then again I could be wrong. All my teeth are very sensitive and my gums are actually itchy. I was using a salt water rinse for my gums because I do have some inflammation when they put a chain on my impacted tooth and that was actually helping with my swelling. However, unfortunately I stopped using it because I wasn’t sure if that would help facilitate gum recession or if I already have thin gum help them get thinner.
Hello Dr Nemeth. I just had gum graft surgery done on 2 back molars last week, but I have 4 or 5 more to do yet, which are starting to show root. Initial consultation and xrays showed NO gum disease. My recession started a couple years after adult braces were removed and have progressed ever since as a result of hard and too frequent brushing. I have since switched to ultra-soft manual toothbrush. Last week, the surgery itself was painless due to the anesthesia, and discomfort during the recovery was very minimal since my Dr used donor tissue instead of harvesting tissue from my palate. My question is: Is there any considerable monetary savings to having the rest of the teeth done with the pinhole method, rather than the traditional suture surgery again? I paid $2k for the 2 teeth last week. If it's worthwhile, I would consider making the 5 hr trip each way to visit your office for the procedure on the remaining teeth, otherwise I would just take care of them here in IL.
this might be late but try angling the hand of your brush to a greater degree, so point the opposite end to your eye. And make sure the whole brush isn't against your teeth, tilt it sideways so that when you run the brush up to down, the brush starts small and then the whole brush comes down after the gum, if you know what i mean
@J C Just out of curiosity, what brand type of ultra soft toothbrush do you use? I keep finding too many reviews of several extra soft toothbrushes always expressing that they are like harder than they are made out to be. I got receding gums from brush with overcrowded teeth.
@@acspectator8636 The gum grafts didn't take. Wasted 3 grand. The new gums receded back to where they were just a couple months later. Sensitivity to cold and hot is back and roots exposed. I'm not sure if there's a permanent fix. I thought the gum grafts were a permanent fix, that's why I dished out the cash. I'm out of options now.
@@NoJodas671 I can feel you. I've really done it unknowingly....by poorly evaluated hard flossing...and I have multiple recessions. And having heard so much from other's experiences, I might have to conclude that it's hopeless and pointless to try. We can only let nature take it's course unless we're lucky to end up with an actually effective fix that we can afford. I'm afraid I'll either bare it or suicide before the worst comes. Hope you stay strong on the other hand.
Joseph R Nemeth DDS & Associated: is this procedure permanent, or semi permanent? Is the maintenance work on it extensive and long-term? When you have a very receded gingiva to restore, such as in the exemplary provided in this video, and your professionals have only been able to restore it so far, once the gums are restored to a more robust thickness, is it possible to go back and use the Chow pinhole technique again to further restore the recession, please?
If the gum tissue is thin, as you say, and you want to get thicker healthier tissue to prevent further gum recession, how do you do that? If it's thin, doesn't stretching it up or down, make it thinner? Can you explain this? thanks
Google says: Your periodontist may recommend a regenerative procedure when the bone supporting your teeth has been destroyed due to periodontal disease. These procedures can reverse some of the damage by regenerating lost bone and tissue.
I didn't find a "per tooth" but Google says: The cost of pinhole gum surgery can range anywhere from $2500 to $5,000 per jaw. The average cost is around $3,000. Where the cost falls within that range for one patient depends on a few different factors. It is difficult to say how much the procedure will cost without a consultation.
When it is mentioned there will be no pain but discomfort pls advise how much in scale of 1 to 10 I would like the upper row of teeth done my recession is not as bad as the video around 4mm
How do you know if you have bone loss ? I haven’t been to the dentist in a while because of insurance problems . Years actually. I know I have receding gums and have for many years . I’m so afraid of loosing my teeth . My gums are not as bad as the picture but they’re pretty bad .
I really wanna do this or the gum grafts but its like 1k per tooth =( and I was told I have 7 teeth that are "severe" receding (level 4) and many others that are also receding. I make min wage and have been having trouble sleeping some nights for the past year or 2 because of the sensitivity and anxiety of possibly losing my teeth or having to spend all my savings for the surgery.. On top of that, I get sore throats every other day now as well as some strange headaches/dizzyness and phlegm buildup I assume is from the gum disease weakening my immune system because I am otherwise very healthy and do everything right health wise. They told me I had no bone loss in the assessment which is good.. but the sensitivity is really bothering me lately and the cost of the procedures. Also.. if it comes back after the surgery and recedes again..
It sounds like you have gum recession and gum disease. You should definitely look into getting the gum disease treated first because the bacteria have an adverse effect on the rest of your body. Afterwards you can look into getting the gum recession treated. In some cases, they can both be treated at the same time.
Floss every day correctly and do oil pulling. Coconut oil is good for this, olive oil, even coq10 capsules (break the capsule and put the liquid in the mouth) swish around for a few minutes then spit out (not in the sink because oil will clog the drain) . RU-vid has many videos on this
Is pinhole technique successful even in a thin biotype gum that doesn't have gum disease but gum recession due to brushing? I noticed its seems easier to treat successfully thick gum more than thin gums from online photos
The goal of the Pinhole technique is to thicken the gum tissue and make it healthier overall. I have successfully treated countless patients with very thin gum tissue.
I don't have gum rececion but I have bleeding gums so i plan to start brushing regularly i hate myself for not taking better care of my teeth but i hope to reverse the affects of not brushing, how long do u think this would take?
For gingivitis (reversible) it would be best to clean in between the teeth w/floss, waterpik and proxabrushes, as well as using Listerine or a CPC mouthwash (e.g. Therabreath Healthy Gums) once or twice daily. Probably start to improve after two-three weeks of consistent use. Periodontitis would require a periodontist.
Don't forget to floss. Flossing without brushing doesn't quite work, and brushing without flossing DEFINITELY DOESNT WORK. Got to do both. And use ULTRAsoft toothbrush (better than EXTRAsoft) soaking in fresh water when not in use.
Hello, I do NOT recommend that you try to pop it yourself. The abscess could come back if not properly drained. I would seek the help of a dentist or periodontist to help take care of it for you
@@josephrnemeth thank you doctor. Im happy to inform you that my pus pop itself (promise you i didnt do anything to it) and my dentist gave me the antibiotics because half of my face is swollen which is alarming to her. I hope it will be gone tomorrow
These two procedures are used to accomplish different results. LANAP is used to treat gum disease and eliminate the infection with a laser. The Pinhole Technique is used to reverse gum recession when the gum tissue starts to recede. They are two different procedures for two different conditions.
That is correct Pete, the Pinhole will be less effective if there is an infection. However, it has never presented a problem for our office. When necessary we do a thorough cleaning prior to the Pinhole Technique.

Sandra Copetti, Oil pulling! Use coconut oil, about a tablespoon, and swish it around your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes. Try to squeeze the oil between the teeth. Coconut oil with draw bacteria from your gums and make them feel great. Don’t exceed 20 minutes because the bacteria will reabsorb into the gums. Good luck.

Usually Local anesthesia (shots). Just be sure to get a 2nd series of shots AFTER dentist is done. Helps a lot with pain during the next 4-6 hours. Without that 2nd series of shots no amount of percocet kept the pain away the first time I had it done (on other teeth). That time I had to bear the pain for 4-6 hours until it went away on its own.
