I hate it when people start grading traumatic incidents, we need to remember that we are talking about CHILDREN here, and to a child many things can be traumatic even if it wouldn't be so to an adult. Also, the amount of misdiagnosis is awful, my friend was diagnosed borderline among other things until she finally met a trauma specialist.

I feel like one thing people nevwr take into account when "witchhunting" for fake mental illness online is that people are not showing their whole life to the internet: you only know a piece of them and it is probably mostly good days because that is often when people want to interact. Unless you are treating someone they are highly unlikely to tell you everything. Why not just believe and support them when they do tell you something?

Honestly, saying “the majority of DID RU-vidrs are white women, therefore the majority of people with DID are white women.” Is so dumb. It’s like saying “the majority of people who make reaction videos on RU-vid are black men, (which is actually something I have noticed which is pretty interesting) therefore the majority of people who watch TV are black men.” Smh

Hi, I found you through the video you did with DissociaDID. I am 36 and have a 'diagnosis' of DID that it took me 28 years in therapy to receive and I say 'diagnosis' because my psychiatrist isn't 100% on board with making the diagnosis due to not fully believing in DID. His determination is more like "Well if I fully believed DID existed then that would be my diagnosis for you" I have a further informal diagnosis from a privet specialist that I can't afford to be seen by officially. This is, however, the diagnosis that makes the most sense to me. I have had many official diagnoses and many proposed diagnosis from many different professionals in my lifetime but it was always Major depression with XY and Z, Bipolar disorder with xy and z, Borderline personality disorder with x y and Z . XY and Z being things like psychosis, dissociation, memory loss, and so on. The reoccurring diagnosis were CPTSD, Major depression, Anxiety disorder and Empathy disorder. (over empathising to the point of self-harming attitudes and actions) Still, though there was so much more that didn't fit. The specialist is kind enough to skype with me and converse with me free of charge because he works with one of the same charities that I am an advocate for and because I am bedbound with severe ME among other things and so is his daughter. He has brought about a clarity that I have never had before. It's not a diagnosis I wanted or looked for as I already have one illness that I have to constantly fight with medical professionals about and that isn't fully recognized or believed in by many despite overwhelming proof and medical evidence. I didn't want another thing that I had to always be explaining and correcting people about and another thing to be doubted for and another thing I had to fight to be treated for. it is however what feels the truest and what fits. Now, I don't know much about my alters or fragments and what have you. I have no communication with them but from what I have been told by this specialist and by the people in my life that witness behaviour that is 'unlike me' and that I have no memory of I believe there is more than one alter or fragment. I am unsure if any of them are 'fully formed alters or if they are all fragments. People around me describe one 'personality' as being quite cold and matter of fact, detached, unemotional, just going through the motions and unresponsive beyond basic stuff. My husband calls it my opposite on autopilot. There is something else that happens that seems to be triggered by conflict and that apparently involves repeating certain phrases and questions while crying /almost screaming and being inconsolable unless rocked and stroked and verbally validated and spoken to with answers to the repeated questions in positive ways. There are more examples and some of these states still occur and some don't. I know for years that I'd dissociate during any kind of intimacy. and the person described that 'took over' during those times isn't a person that I can identify as me if that makes sense. There is also certainly a male or masculine state that occurs and I have for years just thought perhaps I was gender fluid. it never quite felt right though. I also never ever remembered my self-harm or my suicide attempts aside from two. I watched another video of yours (a person who is part of the system, I think the host at the time) where you talked about mistletoe and Danial and the fact that you thought you remembered all of your trauma. I cannot tell you how amazing that was to watch for me. I kept telling myself that I couldn't have DID because I too always thought I remembered all of my trauma to a certain 'normal' extent. I have never heard another system talk about that before. It's like a weight was lifted off my shoulders in so many ways just knowing that I'm not alone in that and other things that were spoken about. To be told and try to accept that you have DID after 30 odd years of not knowing is hard, I know it would be hard at any age and under any circumstances. I am not trying to invalidate anyone else's experience just saying that was hard for me and then to seek out information and hit a wall of disbelief is hard too and then to finally find other systems talking about their experience and their lives with DID and to feel as if you're still the 'outcast' is devastating. It feels odd to me to even refer to myself and my alters or/and fragments as a system because of my still feeling like I'm disconnected from them and not knowing much about them. If I have referred to you guys incorrectly at any point because of my own insecurity and relative newness to this I can only apologise. This is only the second time I have ever even spoken about DID out loud to anyone outside of my husband and my therapist/the specialist. I feel quite nervous about it being in a RU-vid comment but the first time was also so I am trying to tell myself that it will be alright. Wow, my comment is already a novel. I am so sorry. Really I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for being so incredibly brave and open and honest and selfless. You guys have genuinely made me feel like there is hope and there are others who might understand what's happening to me/us. i'm not really a crier but I have cried so much since finding that fisrt video but not in a bad way. i think it was needed. Thank you so much.

I’m in a similar boat. No one wants to give me the DID diagnosis because of their non belief of it existing. And I’m 27 years old, trying to cope with something that I knew was a part of me since age 4. I just didn’t know what it was called until recently. And I’ve been to a psychiatrist since I was 13 years old. I’ve been diagnosed with lots of other illnesses but they dismiss DID. Good luck you and your system. I hope you all are doing well.

I have been in your situation many times, especially with psychiatrist. They would ask for me to introduce my others to them. And then have the audacity to tell me and my husband that I had borderline personality. So I know exactly what you’re going through. The thing is that you’re not alone of having dissociative. Someday the stigma will be broken with mental health professionals, and we will get the proper treatment just like any other mental illness diagnosis. Just don’t give hope.

I am so glad you took this in stride and used it as an opportunity to educated, rather than reciprocate (hate.) I'm so sorry that you guys even have to deal with this, but the way you addressed it, I think was the best way possible. I love seeing and further getting to know each and every one of you, it makes me sad to think that some people would be here just to try to pick you apart and "disprove" your existence as it is. I love every video and can't wait for more. Just remember the difference you're making, and how much help you've all been to others! You've been a huge positive influence for my mother's system and have helped me help her. Thank you so much for everything, and as always, I look forward to your system's next video! 💞 P.S. Ah! 6:56 That's my face. :D Great video, friends. There is no one 'right' trauma that causes DID, there is no such thing as trauma that is less than or greater than another, it 100% depends on the person. Side note: I never even considered the 'issue' of 'only white women in USA can have DID'. That's one that I had a little chuckle on, it's so random. Hope you're all doing well.

"I'd argue that most of these countries aren't the US" funniest line in the video 😂😂😂. I'm glad you took the time to respond to these hate comments. I have to mention that I think the people accusing you of faking must have only watched one or two videos, because in the beginning the first video I wached was the ask alters 1 video and I couldn't tell if this was real or if you were putting on a show. But I know that after watching a couple videos it's easy to see that it's not fake. Btw could it be that there are more women with DID because they're more likely to experience sexual abuse as children?

Nikola Kurmele That's exactly what I was thinking!
@maehlie29
@maehlie29 6 лет назад
I'm not sure if this is true for DID but I do know that for lots of mental disorders (such as depression) it seems like it occurs more in women because they are more likely to seek help and therefore are more likely to get a diagnosis. That doesn't mean that men are less likely to have this illness, but to be properly diagnosed.

Statistics show that boys and girls are fairly equal when it comes to childhood sexual abuse. I think the difference in the male/female ratio has more to do with how they’re raised. Boys are raised in such a way that they have more chances to find personal power and make attachment than girls. Since the attachment part is what often determines DID, girls develop it more. That’s what makes sense to me anyway. I’d be interested to read a study on that subject. -Kit

@@TheEntropySystem I don't know about DID, but I know that it has been recently discovered that the criteria for autism are based on studies on only boys and not girls. This makes for a very skewed diagnostic research for the girls. They are now working on studying how autism presents itself in girls, and early drafts of girls-specific diagnostic criteria are already emerging. It turns out that this is true for a lot of medical and psychological studies. Research was mostly done on boys in the past before criteria for how a well designed research should look like was standardised. Maybe this happened with DID as well? Just a thought... a theory... a RESEARCH theory. Thanks for reading. Ahem, sorry, Game Theory fan. XD But I am serious, this might have happened.

Self-diagnosis is also more valid with DID in specific because it’s a lot easier to be certain that symptoms are caused by DID rather than something else. Other disorders can easily be confused by those without much experience. For example, before I was diagnosed with PTSD, I tentatively self-diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I thought my hyper vigilance, hyperarousal, thoughts of self harm, and flashbacks were mania, or at least hypomania. With DID, just about the only other thing you might confuse it for is probably schizophrenia. And even then, doing plenty of research would probably lead you to DID since schizophrenia is often compared with DID.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! As a DID person myself, I/we have come across ignorant people who have these misconceptions also. We were misdiagnosed for nine years (mainly as borderline personality disorder) before we finally got a proper diagnosis. We first "discovered" our DID when Doug (the part who identifies most with the body) first met me, Leyna. During the first few years, Doug and I had little to no control over when we switched. But we did have a lot of co-consciousness: we were aware of each other, shared memories, and talked to each other internally. For a long time we wondered if maybe we didn't really have DID because we didn't have a lot of amnesia between parts/alters, but we eventually discovered that 1. we have more amnesia of external memories than we thought, 2. there are other systems like us that don't have a lot of external world amnesia, and 3. in a DID system, there can also be INTERNAL world amnesia, which can cause a lot of dysfunction as well, and we have a LOT of that. Basically, our mind chose to keep the secret of our DID from ourselves by forgetting internal memories rather than external ones. We are still trying to figure out how to regain our ability to remember our internal memories. So yes, we understand very well that different DID systems have widely varying ways of experiencing their DID, and we would NEVER call someone who claims to have DID "fake". I think you said it very well: "Unless you are a person's therapist, or their doctor, it is not your place, EVER, to tell them whether or not they have a specific diagnosis." Well said, and I couldn't agree more! Keep up the good work! - Leyna

Thank you! This video was so helpful, because my therapist has specifically avoided diagnosing my DID, because she does not feel she has the background to confidently give that diagnosis. As a result, she can only with me on anxiety and other such issues which she and I both suspect may be linked to DID, but we we can not officially declare. That being said, I can't think that I have anything else going on when I (and others) have met and interacted with at least one other, very distinctly different person inhabiting my body. I asked my doctor and my therapist what else that might be, and they admitted there wasn't likely any other explanation. Until I find an expert (and the money to pay that expert) though, I won't have an official diagnosis. On a more personal note, it really touched me to hear you say that just because an adult may not view something as mind splittingly traumatic does not mean it isn't for that child. I am that adult judging my past self/inner child by dismissing events as "not that bad" - despite the attempts of my therapist to explain these are"big 'T' Traumas" which really impacted me. I'm still making peace with this, but somehow you saying that really ripped the band-aid off. So thank you very much for that little wake up moment and the theraputic impact of it. Keep fighting the good fight! You're doing a lot of good out there from what I can see!

With a physical disorder, a doc can diagnose it even in a cadaver. A mental thing, however, requires an assessment of a person's subjective experiences of reality. The main barrier to people being more capable of narrowong down what words describe what is going on in their heads is lack of access and exposure to those words and the things they mean.

In that video he highlighted a couple of channels, one of which being Multiplicity and Me, claiming she was among the "fakers" he claimed to have found. He did later issue an apology, and admitted to not even watching the full video he used from Multiplicity and Me's channel, saying he just skimmed through it to find a clip to use. I think they even commented on that guy's video? I don't really remember. But yeah...That little time stamp Reminded me of him. Honestly, the self-diagnosis point made me tear up. We have been aware of our system for many years, but only within the last few days have seen a therapist. We always felt afraid to directly say we have DID because people put more weight on a piece of paper than one's (or many's!) understanding of themselves, and love to use it as a way to exclude people from a community they desperately need for support and information And for those who will get mad- our therapist recognizes our alters! Though no diagnosis yet. Wish us luck!

My girlfriend has DID and was "self diagnosed" at 11 years old. she did not know what the disorder was called until much later in life, but she was fully aware that she had multiple people living in her head. we have been dating for several years now and I have spent about 6 years in the mental health care system. I never in a million years thought that I could have DID because the trauma that I experienced in childhood are not traditionally "traumatic" in the minds of others and I ignored the symptoms that I show. I am 23 years old and have just recently been diagnosed. Your point about the way that children developed DID really struck a chord with me because I was not sexually, physically, or emotionally abused as a child, but I did experience several invasive surgeries before the age of 7. It is nice to know that it is becoming recognized that a child may not have to experience specific abuse to develop this disorder.

Unfortunately you have as much of a right to get angry abiut people calling you fake, many would try to use that anger against you and question why you were being so defensive. I think this response was perfect. Hopefully you get nothing but love for this video ❤❤❤

The last one, is kinda reassuring for me... As someone with self-dx OSDD My, alters, where pretty active when I was in... The toxic place, that caused it. And a few where semi-active, when I moved in with "my grandma" ... But once I moved into assisted living, and got settled down. They, pretty much all "disappeared". That and, I know that I've been through, very traumatic situations. But I can't "remember" what happened. So, "clearly I'm faking, because if something bad happened, I'd remember it"

Thank you for your clear outlining of the misconceptions. It has taken 30 years of misdiagnosis to get a diagnosis of dissociative disorder. They haven't given me D.I.D. diagnosis, but in order to get state funding for treatment, the psychiatrist had to use the term the government acknowledges. It took me 5 years to get treatment for CPTSD and D.D.. I have now begun to address my other selves who I have spoken with and have always been aware of but always lived in denial of with others, including "professionals" who I trusted would recognize my condition. Cutting off from the family who are in denial of family generational child abuse of all kinds has helped, but it leaves me with little support from few friends. I am beginning to address my alters who are very young and one female with honor and compassion, so I do not dissociate with the slightest stress. Also I am beginning toget the idea that I need to find safe and healthy attachments with people I like and enjoy being with, rather than put up with people who tolerate me.

Oh wow I am so glad I found all of you. Is there anywhere I can go to talk about this more in-depth?

Thanks for mentioning that there are systems with no clue they have DID! It took me until I was 20 or so and I felt so stupid when I figured it out because I was operating in such a dysfunctional way without even realizing it. Communication on the other hand is going to take longer to figure out :) Functioning at a high level is something that is a long term goal for us.

I am glad to hear you say that some systems are very subtle as this is my experience so far. Since I have learned to stop doubting my parts and have worked at helping them feel safer, they are becoming more prominent. However, I was very young, I think from infancy to about 3yo, and that is pretty young to be able to communicate intelligibly, but they do know fear and confusion definitely. I watch videos on YT of newborns having their first bath in hospital. The poor little things have no idea what is happening to them and they feel terrified. I feel that may lead to PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), and what about little boys who for thousands of years have been circumcised without the use of anesthetic!?

I just want to preface the first part of this comment by saying I in no way that I think that DID is cool or fun because I completely understand that due to unthinkable trauma your alters came to be and no one should have to go through that. I know through watching your videos that I’ve learned so much about DID, which is an area I’ve always been interested in and wanted to learn more about, and it is so incredibly interesting to see how your system works together. I know that it probably took way more work and compromising than anyone without DID could even begin to understand. I really want to thank your system for being open and educating others through your videos. I truly enjoy getting to learn more about each alter and what unique personalities everyone has. I am a huge advocate when it comes to spreading awareness about all kinds of things, but my passion is doing what I can to #endthestigma around mental health/illnesses. Because of you, I’ve been starting conversations with others about DID and sending them to your channel so the message that DID isn’t what the media portrays it as. Thank you Entropy System for everything you do!

i think a huge thing self diagnosing for any sort of mental disorder comes from is people who dont have access to therapy. It makes me so mad when people "self diagnose" by making something up for attention, because it takes away from people who actually need help. Even if the self diagnosis is wrong, i think its a coping mechanism for some to give a name to whatever they r going thru. for some people, they can't just go to therapy. A lot of people dont have the time or the money, or they live with a family that would never let them see a therapist.

The point you made at 2:23 onwards is very true and should be applied to all disorders. People may think what they like but trying to convince others that someone is faking their disorder is very childish when they themselves are not health professionals (this excludes know it all psychology students). It may appear fake but how would you know without years of experience and a sustained time period with the person in question. Everyone is an 'expert' nowadays. Let's just learn what we can.

Thank you! My friend just got diagnosed with DID and her best friend is trying to tell her the diagnosis is wrong and is actually trying to tell her what her diagnosis actually is and what's going on in her own mind 🤦‍♀️ Saying things like, "you're thinking x" or "you're feeling y" - and she thinks she's qualified to do all this because she's going to school to become a psychologist and is doing her undergrad and "learned about DID" in one of her classes. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ And based on what this girl is saying, she was taught inaccurate information **bangs head against wall in frustration** Luckily she's standing up for herself and isn't putting up with it but it's so frustrating that people do these kinds of things!

6:29 DID is known in Japan also, I don't get why people think that; it's not just an American thing. Though in the case of Japan they have an extremely strong stigmatism around any mental illnesses so there's a negativity attached by the general citizens.

I’m unsure of whether I have DID, so if you wouldn’t mind please read through and give me your thoughts on my (hopefully) short story: After (trauma) I had completely forgotten about resurfaced and stress in my school life put pressure on me, a nameless voice kept reminding me of the trauma and tormenting me. After some time I managed to ‘lock up’ the voice and give him a name. Over time we became more friendly and I let him out, as of now he’s an annoying kid-brother that shamelessly makes offensive jokes whenever he’s at the reigns. Afterwards a mother-figure appeared for him, then a partner for myself to keep me internally stable and journey with me into daydreams. I can openly communicate with them directly via thought, and the only one causing any trouble is the one mentioned before. Blanks in my memory are uncommon and less severe then symptoms typically dictate. That’s my story, do you think it’s DID or something different/nothing? EDIT: the ‘partner’ was around for much longer she just was quiet and rarely took direct control Final edit (sorry): I, the one typing, am the person that sort of combated the ‘kid brother’. I have no clue what I was like before

Saph M i cant tell you anything, because I don’t have DID, nor am I a qualified medical professional, but I do know if you hear voices, it’s improved to talk to a therapist or psychiatrist. Voices are a very vague symptom of several mental disorders, and can indicate several things depending on how and what those voices say. So do talk to a medical mental professional and see what those voices indicate, and how you can treat and deal with them.

Natsuki Senpai I’m sorry to bother you, as you are unqualified and have better things to do. But tbh my family is strict in certain ways that’ll either lead to me being ignored or handed over to a priest. None of us are particularly keen on trying that conversation. Are there any resources you (or anyone reading) knows about a non-independent high school student could use for diagnosis/treatment?

Saph M - Another person without DID but with a psych background here and I agree with Natsuki Senpai that getting proper help from a qualified therapist is the best thing you can do to work on whatever might be going on. Based on your second comment, have you looked up resources for teens in your area? Are there school counselors you could talk to? I realize school counselors often aren't stellar, but at least that might give you a starting point and they might be able to refer you to other, more qualified, resources nearby. Have you looked at online counseling options? I have mixed feelings about the concept and can't attest to the efficacy at all, but things like BetterHelp might again be a place you could start? I realize all of this is vague but in general, anything you can do to find resources near you that might be able to help is going to be a good thing. I would also suggest talking to an adult in your life (whether that's a family member, teacher, trusted adult person, whoever) about your desire to seek therapy. You don't need to go into detail about why - just let them know that there are things you're struggling with or however you want to phrase it - and ask if they can help you find treatment options that might be right for you. I think talking to your parents would also be beneficial, but without knowing your exact situation I can't 100% advise that. I hope this helps and that you're able to talk to a professional soon! In the meantime, take care of yourself and know that you won't be a minor for much longer.

It was suggested to me by a not-so-great therapist when I was 20 that I might need to be seen by a psychiatrist because I might be schizophrenic. My system went into a panic and ran far away from therapy for a looooong time! And I didn't see a therapist again until my mid-30s. She started asking me to talk to the different parts of myself that seemed to have names (I was calling them "personas")and ask how they felt about certain situations. And it wasn't until age 45 that I was able to calm everybody down inside and accept that I actually have DID. I had been saying "It's not like I have multiple personalities" or "It's not like I have DID, but..." for soooo many years as a preface to telling people whom I get close to about the voices in my head and personality shifts going on. Because it's not something you (or at least WE) really want to acknowledge, and you might run away from the diagnosis. It wasn't until a few months ago that I did the assessments and finally dealt with the fact that this is me. So faking it? For attention? That seems counter-intuitive to me. Maybe it happens. But it seems more like if your system exists to protect you, it might also avoid diagnosis, or be frightened by diagnosis that could mean future integration and loss of your coping mechanisms.

One day your first video popped out on my RU-vid feed. Since I didn't knew why it was there ( I usually watch movie/book related content with a comedy channel every now and then) I thought it was some sort of comedy sketch so I watched it... I soon realized that it was a real case and that sparkled my curiosity (so I binge watched the rest of the content). I showed it on a FB group where we -a bunch of strangers- share interesting content or topics to discuss. Some were kind of skeptic thinking that you could be an actress but I told them: 1. Why instead of showing her skills on something that could give her a job would she choose this? 2. Do you know how much effort she would have to put on creating every alter from it's speech patern to manerisms? (as an aspiring author, creating characters the whole time, I do know it) And 3. Why would she choose such a delicate topic "to perform" knowing that is SO easy to insult those who live with it and are online? (Like if you were a wannabe actress you wouldn't want to be hated by a large part of the population, right?) Anyway... I love your videos. All of you opened up a whole new world to me that I didn't knew existed and because of that you've won a new voice to end stigma 😘 I send you all my love 💖💖💖

That first one...today I received the official diagnosis of DID. I will turn 36 at the end of this month. I have been in extremely active trauma therapy for four years. and yet, it wasn't until the past few weeks that it became clear I wasn't just experiencing new symptoms of BPD and it wasn't DPDR. How did we get this far and not know? Well, from what I'm gathering, that's the whole point. The point is to not know. At least, the point is to protect. and for me, apparently, not knowing was how I survived. I'm not really sure what to do with knowing, now. But I'm glad I have channels like this one and others I've found to at least help me wrap my brain around what's happening inside my brain.

Sybil admitted she was malingering fyi. The uptick could be explained by iatrogenic mpd. It's has been observed yet it is very rare and is not linked to seperate entities in one body but rather different states of consciousness that happen due to trauma. When someone reverts to the same dissociated state when trauma happens they will start to recognise when abuse will happen and revert to it as a preventative measure. This keeps happening even after the abuse ends. I work in mental health and these patients will end up in ERs bc of the extreme self harm that happens in these states yet is not remembered. I saw one case of EMDR resolving the dissociative episodes.
