In this video I am installing a 3 way Amazon Basics Smart Switch. No long explanations of how 3 way circuits work, just straight to the install. However, if you want to learn about 3 ways systems I did some videos on that here:

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU - You made it so clear. Amazon should shown this in their instructions.

Rudy, good job explaining the rookie mistake, I hate when you have a three way and one switch has to be in the on position and the other in the off position for the light to work. Drives me batty. I think off is off and on is on. Another great video. Thanks.

I bought two of these and I got one set correctly! The other non-smart switch only "turns on" the light and will not flip off. Is there something on the Line side I need to do to make it work? (I removed the line and connected it to the hot wire already) Any ideas?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel 3 месяца назад
HI, did you take the line voltage in the switch that is supplied with power from the panel box and tie it to the black traveler going to the smart switch at the other location?
@christianabau3019
@christianabau3019 3 месяца назад
I re-striped the traveler wire and capped it with the black bundle in the first box. That seemed to work!! BUT it only works when my LEDS are at 100% with the Amazon dimmer. I know you installed just the general switch, but would you happen to know why it would not completely work when the dimmer is used?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel 3 месяца назад
Ohhh... I'd have to see the wiring diagram for the dimmer to see if it's any different. I'm guessing it's a 3 way dimmer. Are your LEDs dimmable? Sometimes they're not.. (is that the amazon basics 3 way dimmer?)
@christianabau3019
@christianabau3019 3 месяца назад
@@TheHomeImprovementChannel Yes, this is the 3 way Amazon Dimmer switch, and the LEDs do dim with the smart switch. The other end is now functioning as a switch ON, but will only go in the OFF mode when the dimmer is set to 100% (they will turn ON if the last setting was at like 20% but won’t turn off until I change it to 100% on the smart side or via Alexa) Bizarre, but thank you soo much for your video and if you do decide to do a video for Amazon Smart Dimmers down the road, I’ll be excited to watch/learn!

@@christianabau3019 Thanks for the video idea! I might do that... Just out of curiosity what would happen if you replace the Non dimmer switch with just a regular 3 way switch?

I have two smart switches each have two travelers connected and ground neutral and black line/load ....they both work great manually but in alexa i have to tell alexa to turn it on in order to turn it off and also led indicator indicating power is on does not work( even when light is on) suggestions?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel 4 месяца назад
Of course it might depend on which model you have, but if you've got a 3 way setup there which is what it sounds like you only need 1 smart switch. Unless I misunderstood..

@@TheHomeImprovementChannel Thanks! i was actually able to get the two smart switches (wanted two just for aesthetics) to work together by wiring as you suggested and just linking the two switches together in the app. Now i am trying to put a new switch in a place that has two 3 way switches with a 4 way switch in the middle would i wire this the same way?

@@litmediagroup3722 HI, was there a 4 way configuration in the diagram? I don't remember..

Great video. I had also invested a ridiculous amount of time on this. MOSTLY things are now working, but I have an odd curve ball to throw at you Rudy. I have to turn the regular switch off twice to get one set of overhead lights to turn off. And it is consistent. If I turn them on (using either the Amazon 3-way dimmer or the regular 2-way switch) then I have to flip the 2-way twice to get them off. I had a 3-way switch (with common and the re-purposed traveler tied together - red then used as the traveler to the Amazon) and tried swapping it for a 2-way. Same thing. Very odd. Tolerable, but odd.... Any thoughts?

HI David... Very interesting problem. I thought mine did that a couple of times too. I just went to try it and it's not doing that. I don't think it has for a while or I would have probably took out the wifi switch and just put a regular switch back in there. If you've got it hooked up right, I'll bet it's a glitch in the wifi switch. Maybe try turning off the power to that circuit for a couple of minutes and try it again and see if the problem persists...

Interesting.... I'm troubleshooting what sounds to be a similar situation... If the standard switch is UP with the light off, it simply operates as UP=Off / DOWN=ON.... However, if the standard switch is DOWN with the light off, then it seems to work every other cycle, for example 1)DOWN=OFF 2)UP=ON 3)DOWN=ON 4)UP=ON 5)DOWN=OFF.... it takes an extra up/down cycle to get back to down=off... I've been scouring the internet trying to figure out if this is normal behavior, or if I may have wired something incorrectly..... but after reading your comment, sounds like I may need to simply try a new smart switch.... **UPDATE** -- wow, just factory reset the smart switch, re-connected it to the app/wifi, and now the standard switch seems to work fine in either orientation! Thanks for the clue that this may have simply been a software error. **UPDATE2***-- I spoke too soon. It appears the issue presents itself when the light is set below 70% brightness..... maybe I am back to trying a new switch.
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel День назад
@@lostinperiphery HI!... Yes mine does that too occasionally... I don't think it's normal, but a glitch in the switch. It's something I just put up with, but I don't think you've wired anything wrong.. Especially since it works most of the time and does this sometimes. If it was a wiring issue it would do it all the time.
