One note that drove me crazy. I installed a smart switch to control my front porch and the switch was one in a gang of three. When I pulled the existing switches all the white neutrals were tied together as expected. I pulled one the neutral wires and attached it to the new switch. The light blinked on/of every second but would not connect to Wifi. Then I tried another neutral wire and it seemed to work however the next day nothing worked. ONLY when I left all the neutrals tied together and tied the white neutral switch wire into the neutral bundle did everything work as advertised.

Have you noticed that if you set the default brightness very low like say 1% when you turn on the switch it takes several seconds for the light or lights to lit up? Even with the setting of fade on(instant)? If I set the default brightness at 50% or higher then they lit up immediately after pressing the switch. This happens regardless of pressing the switch on the wall or using the app. I have several of the Kasa switches(HS220s and KS220s) and they all behave like this so I think it is normal, but seems strange.
@TopHomeowner
@TopHomeowner 11 месяцев назад
Yes, I have noticed that. I figured it was an issue with the LED bulbs... not enough power to get them started... but you're right, it could be the switch itself.

I do this via Alexa as I can group different lights/switchers from different manufacturers together - I can literally say “Alexa turn house lights on” and every light in the house turns on at 100% brightness. I'm a firm believer that age is just a number. That said, I'd still recommend supervision :)

Do you have a strong wifi signal in that part of the house? I found this video that has some tips as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iVDKqoVCDaM.html

Check - this will only connect to the 2.4ghz wifi and your router broadcasts in both 2.4 and 5ghz (almost all the smart home stuff only connects to 2.4ghz) what can happen is that it is connecting to the 5ghz network instead of the 2.4ghz and unable to “connect successfully” shall we say. The solution is usually to go into your router (via a web browser using the address in the back of the router) and turn off the 5ghz broadcasting until you have it set up. I do this especially with the Kasa bulbs as they seem to love the 5ghz network even though they cannot use it.

If those are all connected to the old switch, then it should be as simple as disconnecting them from the old and attaching them to the new switch.

@@TopHomeowner This may be incorrect information. It MAY be the old way of wiring switches. The power source is in the light box. black = line (live from light box), white= switched load back to light. ground is still ground. White should have a black sleeve or tape on it to indicate it is being used as a black wire.

So since their is only 3 wires, black is line, white is line and and copper is ground which means it connects to the green on the tp-link. Which also means the white wire on the tp-link is not connected to anything?
@xxCanadianEhxx
@xxCanadianEhxx 2 года назад
@@jhocadsonarchelus786 If the white wire, on the smart switch is not connected to anything the switch will not work. In the situation described above, a smart switch will not work. For a smart switch to work it needs 1-line (power in - black) 1-load (power out - black or red) 1- common (white wire) and 1 ground (bare copper)

Its not a guess on which black is your hot… the hots are jointed together…. With a stinger coming off of the bundle to the switch (line side)… the load is the single black wire, which jumps up to the fixture

well, they used to be smart. An app update made them pretty stupid. These turned to crap. I had to replace all mine with Amazon switches and outlets in order to continue to work with Alexa. That whole "control from around the world" doesn't work either. All my devices got DHCP error" . Don't bother with TP link, they went to crap.
