This video takes a deeper look at the Corsair Commander Core XT. This smart RGB and fan speed controller does a great job in centralizing control of your Fan speed and RGB in the corsair iCUE software. This device also gives you some additional RGB control and 2 temperature sensors which can used for monitoring and custom fan control.
This video is a review but also a basic instructional guide on how to cable up this device and get started with setting up your fans and rgb lighting in iCUE

iCUE great idea but in real world/ when you have to unplug everything and plug back "JUST TO CLEAN DUST"-you run into problem with Corsair fans would never RGB back. Even if you plug how it used to be. My Theory that its not fans but Commander, node, ICUE issue. Lesson learned just stay away from Corsair for now.

This looks really cool! Im thinking of using this to control intake/exhaust fans in my server rack. I'm wondering if I'd be able to use USB passthrough in my Hypervisor to a Windows VM where I'd install Corsair iCue, then run a sata and USB extension out a pcie slot to the Commander Core XT and connect all my different server rack fans and temp probes. Does this sound like it could work? Could Noctua fans work with this or would Corsair have better functionality? I dont care about RGB fans but might use a RGB light strip for server rack lighting.

I Literally spent ages browsing forums trying to figure out why it wasn't showing up in iCue, I spend 13:03 here and I find out I'm not actually running the most recent iCue, I was running legacy, and every time I pressed check for updates it was saying up to date, so I downloaded the most recent and that fixed my issue, thanks a million, I don't blame myself and think i'm dumb, just the software is a little dumb for not even offering to upgrade icue to 4.2+

i have the corsair iCUE commander CORE and I have 4 fans on a hub that came with one of my 3 packs of QL120's. Out of my 10 fans 6 are directly plugged into the commander core, while the other 4 are in on the hub that is plugged into the daisy chained USB plug in on the commander core. then the core is plugged into the MB. With this the hub and the 4 fans daisy chained to the core light up RGB cycle but are not detected by the corsair iCUE software so I have no control over the fans in terms of RGB. PWR I have used wire splitters on the power side and that is how I can control the speed to all the fans no problem. Any help please. Why does the QL 120s come with a RGB hub if it doesn't work with the commander core why does the commander core have a daisy male USB seemingly so it can connect to a RGB hub? I feel like how I set it up makes sense and is why that extra USB is there seems like they are useless or I am doing something wrong. If I need to get another commander core then where do I plug that into the MB. I only have 2 plugins to the MB and 1 has the NZXT AIO and the other is the commander core. I don't know how I can get all 10 fans on the same controller.

That's a fantastic and detailed overview of the Corsair IQ Commander Core XT! Thank you for taking the time to explain all the features and connections. It's really helpful for those of us who are considering using this controller. I have a question regarding the temperature probes. You mentioned that they should be placed in the case to measure ambient air temperature. Could you share any insights or recommendations on the best locations to place these probes for accurate temperature monitoring? Also, have you noticed any significant improvements in fan control and system cooling by using these temperature-based fan curves? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience with the Commander Core XT!

From what I understand, you can tape the temp sensors to pretty much anything that is in your case, maybe by the front fans, or the exhaust fans, back the case, right on the inside of the I/O panel where the fans are exhausting. Or if you have a custom loop like I do. Even easier, I plugged in a temp sensor for my CPU block and one for my GPU block. Two separate Core XT and one more to control my front fans. Hope that helps?

Can you plug the USB to any USB header like USB 2.0 and 3.0 in the motherboard
@HardwareArtisan

Hi EeveeGamin, The core XT will connect to a 9 pin USB header on your motherboard. USB 3.0 headers will be 19/20 pins and this won't connect to that, however I think they make some adapters, but I haven't tested that. This will work fine on the usb 2.0 9 pin header. Thanks for watching!!!

Hi Jonathan Baker, lol.....right!? I'm a big proponent of corsair making a king sized super controller, for 20 fans, PWM and RGB, with USB headers.....and while they are at it, just add support for non-corsair RGB, a few standard 3 pin ARGB connectors ought to do it, and allow iCUE to control those devices as well. I think that device would be a game changer...haha. But yea, i'm in the same boat, I almost need a second case, just for lighting control, haha. Thanks for posting that, made me laugh. Thanks for watching!!!

But the RGB ML120 fans plugged into the Core XT aren't doing RGB at all. Sata is all plugged in correctly. I've been swapping things around diagnosiing and this box so far is a piece of Crrp. NOt smart. This is frustrating because I spent all night long re cable managing this entire Corsair cable nightmare just to integrate this XT.

Great video. You touched upon one thing in this video that I am interested in exploring further. I would like to know if it is possible to have more than six fans, say eight fans, on my computer and be able to control them enough that any lightening effect that the first six fans perform would seamlessly transfer to the seventh and eighth fans. For instance, right now, I am using the Sequential light sequence, and it performs on all eight fans, but only the first six fans are in sync, number seven and eight fans do the effect but at their own pace. I am using a Commander Pro device, an older one from three years ago that does not have the RGB ports on it, that is a separate node, but from what you said in the video I got the impression that if I would buy another Commander Pro that it might be possible to have as many as twelve fans all in sync? Is that accurate? If it is possible to do, could you explain it to me or point me in the right direction for a website or another video? I am confident that I am not the only person that might find this information helpful. Maybe you could do a video on this issue? Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long comment.

Hi captainsky_usa, great question! It should be able to sync lighting on all those fans. How do you have the fans connected to the PRO. As you stated the PRO doesn't have the RGB ports, but instead uses those 2 LED PORTS in which you connect an RGB HUB, do you have 2 HUBs, with 6 fans on 1 and 2 on the other? I'm actually working on a video right now connecting multiple CORE XT's and PRO's together as I think this is a subject that many of us want to know more about. I haven't really played around alot with more than 6 fans, but I don't recall any issues when I played around with that, but it's been awhile, I will add this to my testing this week, I have 2 hubs and 2 PRO's, i'll see if I have any issues. Let me know how you're hooked up, for now, i'd suggest, make sure the PRO firmware is up to date. On that note, make sure you have the most recent version of iCUE. If your using 2 HUB's, one to each LED port, make sure the last two fans are on port 1 and 2 of the hub. If you're using the PRO and say a lighting node pro to control the other two, let me know, might I suggest you try connecting both RGB hubs to the PRO. I may have not fully grasped your setup, so let me know how it's hooked up. Thank you for watching!!!

Bought the RGB strips, I thought it should be straight forward. Connected the 4 strips together, with an extension leading out to the RGB slot of the Core XT. Turn on the computer, run iCue, nothing happens. Tried each of the strips individually to the RGB slot directly (turning the computer off each time), adding the single RGB strip, turning it on. Nothing from the strip. Stumped on this one, should not be this hard. Core XT detects the fans and its RGB.

Hi Amateur-God, great question, there are several SP fans available from corsair. The Air Series SP120 LED fans would not be compatable with the CORE XT RGB control. The others, however, I believe all have the 4 pin RGB connector and will work fine with the CORE XT. I have a set of SP120 RGB elite fans and they work well with the core XT. The amazon pic describes these as not support on the automatic detection. I don't recall having any issues with that, i'll have to revisit that subject. But, they should work just fine. @@jimmiereese193 Corsair has made this a bit confusing. The SP120 elite and SP120 rgb pro fans will work with the CORE XT by itself. There is an older SP120 fan (non elite or pro) that won't work, I've never had any of those.. If you have the pro or elite, they will connect and be detected as the 8 LED fans. Your video explanation convinced me to try out your method in my new case Corsair AIO upgrade. I have installed a Corsair Hydro iCue H150i LCD CPU cooler with three radiator and three front fans connected to the Commander Core which came with the AIO. As you suggested, I purchased an additional Commander Core XT to control two more fans for exhaust. Additionally, I installed a full Lian Li 24 pin MB and 3x8 pin GPU Strimers connected to the its own controller. I then used the adapter cable you recommended to connect the Strimer Plus RGB to the RGB socket of the Core XT. After following your setup method, it all came together and I now have a fully iCue integrated and controlled lighting system! All the fans have been named and cooling linked to the CPU and case temperature. Immensely pleased with the result. Thank you so much. Simon East Sussex, UK

I am thinking of buying this but what's the ID port for? Is it to connect to the jcorsair1 port on motherboard. (my motherboard is Msi x570 Prestige Creation)
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan 2 месяца назад
Hi billpengelly223, that ID port is to connect to a couple of the Larger Corsair Cases (I don't have a complete list). It's just to identify the case to the controller and icue for some case specific lighting functions. I have never used it, and it's not needed for anything unless you have one of those cases. So don't worry about connecting it unless you have one of the corsair cases with lighting. Great question, thanks for watching!!!!

What a great video... congrats. Question: can I connect 3 iCUE 120 RGmm fans and my iCUE LC100 Case Accent Lighting Panels to this iCUE Commander CORE XT? I am asking because I currently have the iCUE LC100 Case Accent Lighting Panels connected to the iCUE Lighting Node PRO RGB Lighting Controller (which came in the package), and I want to replace this iCUE Lighting Node PRO RGB Lighting Controller with this iCUE Commander CORE X. Basically I dont want to have two iCue controllers if I can only have one... my ASUS ROG Strix z690 MoBo only have two USBs connectors. Thanks for your help and congrats again.

Hi ARNALDO ARCAY, Yes, you can use the CORE XT to connect the LC100 Accent Tiles, I just did a review of those as well, very cool stuff. You will connect them to the RGB port on the CORE XT, which will act in a similar fashion as the Lighting Node Pro. Great question, thanks for Watching!!!

You have probably figured it out by now, but just in case (no pun intended): "Oh, we know what it is now! It has been revealed with the new 5000T case. The mystery ID port is used for some cases to identify themselves to the controller. This allows for case-specific and unique lighting like we have on the 5000T but without require special firmware (like we saw for the 1000D CoPro and the Spec Omega NoPro)." Have a great day!!!

Hi how are you, i have the same controller Corsair commander Core Xt, with this item i'm using 3 Corsair Icue SP120 Rgb Pro Fans, but i have a problem, the leds of 2 fans are not syncronized with the third fan, i tried to fix this but was impossible, im talking about Front side fans so checked the mount of the fans, but they're installed in the same way and correctly, should i turn right once a time the third fan and screw again to fix the led sync problem or i can fix it through Icue Software? Thanks
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan Год назад
Hi Rayner Fuentes. If I understand your problem correctly, you can solve this in the iCUE software. If you goto your CORE XT tile, and select the lighting setup, this will bring up the tiles representing your fans. Each fan will have a colored LED lit on it, both in the software and on your physical fan. You want to make the tile in iCUE match your physical fan. If you hover your mouse over the tile, you will see arrows in the lower left and right, you can rotate the fan here in icue, just rotate it so that the LED that is lit matches how your physical fan looks. In addition, you can drag and drop the fans in icue to match the order they are in your case, this will help with animations like Visor. no need to physically move or rotate fans when using icue. Great question, let me know if that wasn't what you needed. Thanks for watching!!!

Will the SP 120 rgb led fans same on the 4000x case work with the Commander core xt ??? I'm hearing there were issues with the SP 120's
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan 2 года назад
Hi Jimmie Reese, I don't see that Corsair specifically identified the model of SP120 Fan this comes with this case, but the 4000x does have a lighting node core, indicating it's the pro or elite, in which case the CORE XT works fine with them. We've chatted about the compatability of the SP120 series fans, and as I mentioned, corsair hasn't made it simple...I can't even find the older style SP120's to purchase at this point. I know on the corsair Product page for the XT it shows SP120 as not supported, I think they need to clarify that statement as the pro and elite fans would be supported. Check out this corsair page, it shows the compatable fans per controller. help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/articles/4409125722509?input_string=sp120+fans+compatability It shows the PRO/ELITE SP fans as being supported. I hope that helps clear up the confusion, let me know if not, it's a subject I might think about a quick video on if I can get ahold of the older fans. Thanks for the great questions, thanks for watching!

I have everything connected and updated on my build, but I cannot for the life of me get the fan speed to change. What am I doing wrong? It is this way on all three CoCoreXT's that I have in my system.
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan Год назад
Hi Connor Burkhardt, I'm going to assume you are using Corsair fans that use a 4 pin PWM connector. If, by chance you are using 3 pin DC controlled fans, you will not be able to control the speed, they will run at the max rated RPM all the time.....Only the commander PRO can control DC fans. I'm also assuming that icue detects all 3 controllers and all the fans on them, verify that icue recognizes all fans under the cooling tab and is giving you an RPM, if icue isn't detecting the core XT's, then check your usb connections, move them around and try them one at a time. Assuming that's not your problem, I would try the following steps. I've had a recent issue where the fans were running but weren't detected at all. I rebooted, updated, reinstalled. It started working after I powered down and disconnected the power from the controller, let it sit for minute and reconnected it. Upon booting back up, it recognized all my fans normally. I would try this. Second, try a single controller, disconnnect the other 2, I would disconnect them from SATA power and from USB, then see if the single controller works ok, if it does, you may want to try each controller individually to verify they work by themselves. If they do work at this junction. I would try a different USB connection and a swap around. eliminate using the USB pigtail at this point, I would recommend trying a powered usb hub, nzxt has one as well as corsair. If that doesn't work, I would power off and disconnect all the fans from a controller, and boot up icue with the fan disconnected, but the controller connected. Then, i'd force a firmware update, then reboot, reconnect the fans and try again. From there, uninstall/reinstall icue and make sure any other fan control software is not running. You may have to experiment around with just simplifying your setup. It's unlikely all 3 controllers are bad. I hope that helps point you in the right direction, let me know what you find Thanks for watching!!!

does corsair have multiple command cores? i got one with my AIO and it works great with the three fans it came with but the two seperate SP 140 elites arent getting rgb which is lame af.
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan Год назад
Hi iVenom, corsair does make 2 'CORES', the "Commander CORE" which comes with the AIO's and a "Commander CORE XT" which is almost identical, but doesn't have the AIO connector and provides an RGB expansion port along with a second temp probe, but they work exactly the same essentially. the SP140 elites use the 4 pin RGB connector to the best of my knowledge, which should work fine with your commander core that came with the AIO. If you haven't already, run the wizard again after you connect them to the 4 pin rgb port, it shouldn't matter where you connect them. If that doesn't work, make sure the firmware is updated on the CORE.....I've even forced a firmware update in the past once or twice to work out goofy little issues. If it's still a problem and icue does detect the fan on the port, make sure in your lighting effect that ALL fans in the "quick lighting zone' is selected. I've mistakenly not had them all checked before causing some to not light. Hopefully that gives you a few ideas to work on it. Good Luck!!! Thanks for watching!!!

Do fan speed and rgb need to be plugged into the similar number per fan? I don't have fan speed control of 3 of them byt rgb works on them all, thats why i ask.
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan Год назад
Hi Andrew Fargo, no, they do not need to be in the same ports, these ports are independent of each other. I do, as a matter of just keeping it straight, try to keep the ordering the same, but that's just a matter or record keeping and maintenance....this fan connects to port 4 on RGB and port 4 on PWM, but it's not necessary. I'm assuming the 3 fans you don't have control over are corsair 4 pin PWM fans....if they are 3 pin DC fans, you won't get any speed control over them. Assuming they are 4 pin PWM fans (of any type) you should have control over them. I would start with creating a custom fan curve and create a fixed percentage and put it all the way to 100%. I've noticed that the corsair fan curves sometimes give me the impression it's not doing much because of how the curve is built, so I've built custom curves to just ensure it's controlling it. If that's not it, i'd move fans around to see if it's the ports themselves, if youre sure the port is not controlling speed, power down and disconnect sata power from it. I've had a couple of times where i've had to remove power and essentially 'reset' the device. Let me know what you find, I am working on a video outline for troubleshooting this very problem. Thanks for watching!!!

The stock rgb hub that came with corsair fans is not being detected by iCUE software. Is the stock rgb fan hub no longer supported by iCUE?
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan Год назад
Hi AG T, I'm assuming you are referring to the RGB Fan Hub that comes with the LL120 fan kits for example. This RGB HUB connects to the 3 pin RGB port using a cable. You then configure the CORE XT's 3 pin RGB port. This hub is still supported, it doesn't show up in icue though, you configure it through the 3 pin lighting settings as mentioned. You also have to populate it in order starting from port 1. Let me know if that isn't what you were referring to. Thanks for watching!!!

I have the Commander Core (non XT) plugged in with 4 fans, they light up but I don’t see any RGB or fan speed control in Icue. Is it just an RGB splitter hub ?
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan 2 года назад
Hi Robert Weeks, You should see the Commander CORE in iCUE and be able to fully control the RGB and the fan speed using all the same software tools as the CORE XT. If you don't see it, something is wrong. It's not just a hub. I would try all the following steps: Ensure the USB cable is connected to a motherboard header, i'd reseat it and try another one if possible. I'd also try another SATA power connector just to rule out any power issues. If you have a USB hub, try eliminating that by connecting directly to your motherboard. And....vice versa, if your using a motherboard header and it just won't detect, try a powered USB HUB if you have one. Ensure you have the latest iCUE version, version 4.x Uninstall any Version 3 software and reinstall version 4 If you still don't see it: Make sure your motherboard chipset drivers are up do date and resolve any problems you see in device manager. Try removing all USB devices and then try it, if it were to work, i'd then readd usb devices one at a time. Beyond that, i'd capture the logs and open a ticket with Corsair. Could be a defective device, but I would check with them as they may be aware of issues regarding your specific hardware. I've had the devices be a little flaky from time to time, usually just reseating the usb connection or rebooting fixed it. Good luck, I hope that helps, let me know how it works out. As always, thanks for watching!!!

This controller is the one I need, was getting very confused with the command controller pro and the XT version? Haven't been following PC building for a few years and planning on a new custom build with SP, ML RGB and H100i platinum XT cooler. Would be good if Corsair would put more information around these products and compatibility, indepth connectivity as you have shown,Great video 👍.

Since the hub has a specific corsair 4 pin connector on the RGB side, will a regular 4 pin ARGB fan connecter go in there?
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan 10 месяцев назад
Hi stanjd, the corsair 4 pin connector, which is a molex connector is really only designed for corsair fans. However, check out this video on an adapter cable to adapt these ports to use with the 'standard' 3 pin 5v ARGB: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w2Pt86_qUYc.html I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a regular 4 pin ARGB fan, 4 pin usually means it's 12v RGB which won't work here, or you could mean 4pin PWM (power and speed control), any 4 pin PWM fan will work on this hub with no problem. Good Luck, have fun and thanks for watching!!!
