Amazing! I just picked it up. Wow is all I can say. The D12 has a certain type of sound that just sits well in a mix. It’s not fat sounding, but that’s okay. We already have those kinds of synths. It’s very good for arps, leads, and some bass sounds. The pad sounds here are really good too. Excellent work.
Aristotle Kumpis exactly, the deep mind seems to fill the midrange really well. Fat mono synth cradles it perfectly. I wonder how it blends with guitar and drums
@@TheVienreich It can be as fat as you want it to be. It just depends on how you gain stage it. Turn on "boost", set the VCA to "ballsy" and crank the volume on the synth itself to max for a good start.
Thank you!! I've recently begun going to hardware from having obsessed with softsynths for a decade. I was one of those that cried out how digital synths were sounding "the same" as hardware in forums and whatnot, mostly to protect myself from realizing I was bullshitting I think. It's not even comparable. Once you begin a relationship with a hardware synth you begin bonding and grow together. You can take it out hiking or to your nephews birthday, but software synths are a whole different abstract realm, like a digital dream. A hollow re-enaction of what was once real. Thank you for this hardware voyage! Salute
Amazing! I just went through this beautiful collection, masterfully curated by Luftrum. Deep basses, lush pads but my favourites are the deeply animated Sci-Fi and Organic ambient atmospheres. Highly recommended, your DeepMind will take you for a deep journey into your mind and beyond :)
This sound set is amazing! The Deepmind 12 is often compared to several old school analog synths but this sound set shows you the Deepmind is capable of incredible sonic animations through additional lfo, multiple matrix modulations, after touch and effects that it's ancestors never could achieve because of spec limitations and limited technology/components. Cortex displays the technical beautifully complex side of synthesis in a new light. Perhaps there would have never been a need to abandon analog synths for the DX7 if they could do the things cortex demonstrates with the Deepmind 12😉. Well done!!!!
Great soundset, picked it up last week. It's a bit pricey, but many of the presets are technically advanced and make use of the Mod Matrix and effects routing. They are not just simple generic plucks and sweeps.
Cortex is mostly a very musical bank of presets that I am very happy to have for my DM12, but be warned I have had problems with some of the presets. I had major issues after installation but after re-running the DM12s VCA calibration program -- twice -- 95% of the original issues were resolved. However, some presets remain extremely loud while others are the complete opposite. Sibilance has made many presets unusable (sounds like the roar of the ocean during a storm when no key is pressed). See several of them in my reply to Luftrum1 below. I tried to denoise them after recording using Sound Forge and also the audio editing program in my video editor but both failed. Thus, the presets are not useable. Your results may vary. Also, several presets are practically inaudible even at full volume (the H25 Tyrell pad, for instance, isn't just soft it barely makes a sound). I have sought help from Luftrum but their response was not helpful, even blaming my unit, which works perfectly in all other factory preset banks. The only issues I am having are with some of the Luftrum presets. I am being fair, I know without a doubt that my DM12 isn't the issue, otherwise the problem would persist across all channels, all voices, and with every preset, not with just a few. However, I recommend the Cortex sound set. Let me be clear, even with the subpar condition of some of the presets I consider the bulk of the presets to be very musical and I can live with the few that are defective. I already own about 20,000 samples in other midi plug-ins and two other preset banks in my DM12 that work perfectly with no issues but are of lesser quality. It's great to have at least 100 presets out of 115 working in the Cortex bank on my DM12. So, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase Cortex or another bank if Luftrum were to make it! Just be prepared that if you do buy them, you may have to dispose of some of the presets that you might really like due to incompatibility with your particular hardware. Then again, as in all things, you may not experience any issues whatsoever. Cheers! Peace!
Hello! All presets used are written in the description of the RU-vid vid, have you checked the description? Clearly something is wrong with your unit, but before we continue from here: Reaching out for support on RU-vid is not the proper channel, we have an email for the purpose, please use that and I will start by verifying your order (also, so I know I am not supporting a pirate... arrr!).
@@Luftrum1 Thanks for your prompt response. Luftrum is well respected in my circle of friends. Indeed, that's how I found out about your soundbanks. Yes, I read the description prior to purchase, however, I stopped reading once I reached the credits to click on the url to purchase Cortex. I didn't realize that the presets used in the demo followed. That's on me... Thanks for pointing out that for me. However, you didn't address the sibilance problem (H-61 PlasmaDrive ES, Subartic, H-68 Central Core ES, and many more too numerous to note here which are totally unusable due to their noise). I shall concur with the email verification as you requested. My DM12 is in perfect working order and doesn't 'sibilance I am NOT a pirate, I have never used an unlicensed loop or sample in any of my music. I mostly use hardware too. Since you advertise on RU-vid it is the perfect forum to alert other potential buyers that all the hype isn't always entirely 100% accurate. They have a right to know what I think just as they have a right to know what positive thinkers comment. I am also NOT a troll! I did give this video a thumbs up as I was impressed with it. However, it would be disingenuous for me to say that I was totally satisfied as well. At best I give Cortex 7.5 out of 10 stars, and that still isn't bad. I'd clearly be a 9 without the volume and sibilance issues! Cheers.
Excellent composition - loved it. My Deepmind finally came back from Behringer today (after an 8 week epic struggle with a repair under warranty- terrible customer service over at Uli Towers btw) brilliant synth though so happy to have her back working again and fully inspired by your piece here. It's gonna be a late one :).
I'm sad that there are no more Eurorack Videos from you. You are one the guys who brought me into Eurorack Ambient Music with your Clouds and Erbe Verb Video. Did you completely abandon Eurorack?
Thank you, yes that Clouds video was something special. There are just so many sound creative projects taking up most of my time these days, and that means my modular often gets neglected.
First of all this sounds incredible. Through all the years I've been into making music I've yet to hear better sound design than your releases. Happy customer for several platforms. One question: are you planning to do more stuff for the Deepmind?
Kind of you Tiko and thanks for your continued support. There are no plans for a new Deepmind-12 set, at least not around the corner but who knows about the future...
hardware has real controls you can more many at once , find yourself at one with the sounds, no need to use an evil mouse interface , no operating system crashing , no heavy cpu and psu fan noises
@@deauvillevrienden Okay, I use a dozen or so plug-ins with my DAW and I like recording live audio too. Some soft synths sound incredible and with todays computers soft synths are all the rage but they also have their limitations. There isn't a soft synth on the planet that can duplicate the true analog MOOG sound or a Prophet 6. It's the difference between emulation and actual sound. It's like the difference between mashed potato flakes and real mashed potatoes. Both are delicious and with enough gravy they are hard to tell apart but, there is just something that real mashed potatoes has that makes it taste better and gives it better texture. Sorry for the food reference but I think if you're happy with one or the other -- or both, just enjoy it! That's what I do. Why does it have to be either or?
Yes, But if you download the app, you can always reload the original patches. The app let's you move patches to wherever you'd like... Say patch H-57, you modify it, and can just move it to A-01 using the app.
