Last week I went to see Dr. Hamid at the OrthoCarolina facility downtown. I must say, I absolutely love visiting doctors and picking their brains about these things.
I had calcific tendinitis in my shoulder and got PT for a few months and made some progress, but doctor wasn't satisfied with progress. Gave me the shot and it felt resolved in a week. It was pretty amazing.
Exceptional work. Thank you for doing these videos. So much simple and needed information. Being in natural health myself I am learning new things so I can educate others on ways to help their joint problems.
I lost my mother . Dealing with Guilt? My mother had severe back and leg pain that she was unable to bear and her daily life was badly affected because she was unable to move . Pain was so severe that she has to take frequently pain killer meds with heavy dosage . After checking with many neurosurgeons , we decided to proceed with one. Most of the Neurosurgeons were advising Spinal Surgery because as per MRI report she has Degenerated disc disease and her nerves at L4 S5 was compressed . Apart from local neurosurgeons , we had also taken advise from international neurosurgeons to go for better decision. So finally after collecting all suggestions we proceeded with the procedure. We were asked by neurosurgeon to get test of HbA1c for my mother diabetes. Test was performed and result was 10.1 He informed that my mother diabetes was poorly controlled and its quite risky to proceed for her surgery immediately . Since she had severe pain we can give her " Transforaminal steroid shot to control the pain . We were advised to consult endocrinologist to control her diabetes . This was the similar suggestion given to us by 5 international neurosurgeons prior to spinal surgery. My mother pain was so severe that we need to take immediate action because sometime she was getting unconscious and her skin color was turning blue due to chronic pain. We decided to proceed with steroid injection as advised by our neurosurgeon . Injection was given and my mother got relief from her chronic pain. I suggested to keep my mother in hospital for observation after the steroid injection but our surgeon refused this suggestion by saying that it is quite routine procedure and nothing to worry for. Next morning , my mother started to complain about headaches and similar back pain again. We informed our neurosurgeon and he advised some pain killers . By evening , her condition got worse. Her BP was 200 , High Fever and she was complaining about severe headache . At this time she totally forgot her back and leg pain and her focus was about her headaches . I informed this situation to our neurosurgeon and he asked us to come in emergency . At this time my mother started to experience hallucination and altered mental condition. We took her to hospital with these symptoms where doctors performed multiple test ( CT SCAN , MRI with Contrast) and they came to know that she has developed "Bacterial Meningitis with hydrocephalus " also she got abscess pockets at her epidural layers of spinal cord. it was totally shocking for us and upon asking the neurosurgeon , he simply replied that she has Spinal Abscess prior to injection and it was misdiagnosed as Sciatica pain. Steroid injection has trigged the infection . We were advised to proceed with immediate surgery to drain the abscess . Surgery went well and my mom pain started to reduce. Now next thing was Hydrocephalus which was causing pressure on heart . He also advised to pass the shunt to remove excessive water from brain. We proceeded with this advise as well . Her surgery went well . After spending 9 days in ICU now my mom is feeling better and conscious but she developed short term memory issue. After two weeks of follow up visit , neurosurgeon performed some test again and noticed that Abscess was coming again. He suggested us to proceed for second surgery immediately and we followed his advised. She was getting better but her hydrocephalus was not getting cured. She was on medicine for that. Almost near to her recovery from second surgery , she contracted by Covid 19 and her symptoms were severe due to immune deficiency . I lost my mother on 12th oct 2020 due to cardiac arrest at Covid 19 ICU. I did my best to save her life but all my efforts were in vain. Now ever day almost i am getting these episodes of panic attacks and I am blaming myself that i could have taken better steps to save her life. I really did my best but my inner me is not accepting it and I feel that I am left with no purpose to continue my life . i am breathing but i am lifeless now. I am getting suicidal thoughts as well . I am blaming myself a lot.
@@pumapuma001 I sincerely hate to hear this. While I know all to well how time alone can not save us from our grief, I had hoped by now you'd found the guilt to be lessened. I always find words to be quite impotent regarding loss, especially those so dear to us. So I will spare you of all the clichés and simply say, your presence here matters. I hope you will come to discover and feel this very soon!
Cortisone has been amazing for me personally. I have Perthes in my left hip and calve. I'm still rather young so I can't get a hip replacement yet, in another ten years I'll be able to however cortisone is really my only option, along with using orthopaedic shoes.
I would forward to friends, but the 45-60 first seconds of intro with zero adequate pertinence with the topic of the video… probably just me but maybe the video would win by having a faster zoom on the subject… great quality last minutes though.
I need to know how to make this urgently! Is there any information on how to make it??????” CAN SOMEONE HELP PLEASE??? It’s a matter of life and death. Please.
I I recently just got one of these shots for my elbow, I got burned really bad in a wreck had a skin graph and 6 months later my scars has started to swell and is bothering me pretty bad
Hi, I had two injections. The one in the neck caused an embolic stroke. Now that my life is just starting to recover, three years on is there anything else I can do to stop the pain, dizziness, fatigue?
@Ron Dale I never thought of that! I have done 21 day water fasts, a plant-based diet, and now I'll include the charcoal, got to admit it's a possibility to clean it out.
@Ron Dale Hi Ron, absolutely. This has plagued me for 3 and a half years. I feel pain in neck like it's on fire, I can't sleep, and th3 dizziness is unbearable at times. I have a good friend who is an A&E Consultant. And if, or rather when, finger crossed it improves I shall let lots of people know. I will get the report and formularise myself with the content. As the injection destroyed me and my life. I am attempting to sue the bastard as he told me nothing about the effects of it.
I don't have a clear diagnosis after a yr. of trying to figure out my pain. I recently had a MRI that revealed a small hi labrum tear. But my orthopedic surgeon is not sure the pain that I'm having is from that small tear. He suggested a cortisone shot to see if the pain goes away. Not quite sure what to do because he's not sure that it's pain from the small tear. Any advice? I don't want to hurt my hip.
Hey Bonnie. This is a tricky decision and I'm glad you stumbled upon this video. This is always a tricky question. I don't know the exact answer. Here is the main problem with getting a cortisone shot - it could reduce the pain but it doesn't fix the injury (especially if it's not related to inflammation issues). That's what the studies tend to point to. Again, not a doctor. However, I've also had a few cortisone shots and the pain for me was the biggest life-hinderance. The shot made it so that I could stop thinking about the injury all the time. If it were me, I'd suggest taking your docs advice and seeing if it helps this one time. If it doesn't help, you'll know pretty soon. - Rob
Hi Sportology, in your video you say your knee got very swollen, but it wasn't clear if it was because of the steroid shot or something you did to hurt your knee. I got a shot four days ago, and my knee is swollen. I called the doctor, but his office is closed because of Thanksgiving. I just wanted to ask if your swelling was a side effect and how long it lasted.
Same here, had both hips injected under x-ray, my God the pain, took 2 half hours. My face red an swollen an my pain is so intense even post day 4. I'm resting alot, just cooking dinners, small slow walks round the block, peg out washing, dishes. The pain worse after I've done something an gets better if I'm laying down still with just a ache, so boring
I'll speak from experience, taking cortisone for 10+ years I put on 30kg. Cortisone makes water retention worse, made me hungry and sleepy all the time and the weight does not come off unless you diet and exercise and fight off the hunger/cravings as much as you can. Lost 28kg in about a year
I didn't encourage people to do cortisone shots even if this can relief the pain, this can have repercussion in tendons on long terms without realizing so pay attention.. you should remember that's is a drug and i consider this like anesthesia.. be patient and you're tendons will be healed..
I went Jan.22,2020 and got a shot in my Left Shoulder, the crazy thing is I have Arthritis in my Right hand, all the pain in my hand went away foe 5 or 6 days. The pain is starting to come back. I started Physical therapy for my shoulder today.
I hit my kneecap, clean x-rays, but couldn't even bend knee for a month...then, when I could, I was encouraged by doctors to exercise, but I started walking way too much. Since then (5 months), I've been in so much pain, I can barely walk at all. Not much swelling, knee just looks and feels "sick". NSAIDs don't do anything for it. Last month, doc said he thinks it's a fracture that x-ray and MRI didn't see, but a bone scan totally lit up my whole knee, so he told me I shouldn't be walking on it. Two days from now, he wants to do a cortisone shot and, if that doesn't work, then exploratory arthroscopy...I have no idea what to do.
I’m going through the same thing you did. It was three months ago I fell on my kneecap. Seeing my Traumatologist again tomorrow, the NSAIDs don’t help. What happened in your case. He might offer me a cortisone injection tomorrow and I don’t know if I should. Thanks.
@@rich8381 That is not a solution to this problem. But thanks for trying to talk down to me to make you feel better about yourself. Have a fantastic day.
@@rlynn6658 now you're gaslighting. First you talk down to someone for their style of making a video, now you try flipping it in me for calling you out. Nut job. You really feel you needed to comment Karen?
@@ozetun Are you a psychologist, to know that? Where did you saw that sitting like he was makes you arrogant? Jesus you are literally making shit up, not smart at all. Or what makes you think that he is a a arrogant? I sometimes sit like him, does it makes me a arrogant people? No at all. You don't even know him, stop judging people out of thin air.
You call that swelling??? My knee was 3 times more swollen then yours and after 7 weeks of rehab after having surgery my knee wasn't healing as well as it should so I went back to the doctor and he gave me a cortisone shot, BYE BYE swelling and my knee feels great and looks normal again!
@@carmenmorales8145 The knee is good but the cortisone was only temporary the swelling came back and I found out the best way to get rid of it is to move and use the knee and the swelling eventually went away for good.
@@pd9971 Thank you so much for replying. I was very worried it will mess up my knee cartilage. I will never take that shot again. I only took it once. I will make sure to keep moving it. I had an acl sprain 10mo later i still had swelling.
Really glad im looking this up now. It seems it helps for a little while. Then when you go back to doing your every day activities then it comes back. Doesn't that make the injury worse cause it has not be properly fixed. Wow and they allow this to be done to people when they know. No love.....
The number one issue of why it comes back is because people get the instant relief then a week goes by and they're out there training again. I was just denied my shot because the doctor wants me to do physical therapy so I'm going to go do my physical therapy show him he's f****** wrong and then get the shot it would be best to get the shot to alleviate my pain then go into physical therapy but can't argue with some doctors who think different I have three different opinions on this from doctors. Me personally I think it's best to get the shot then go do your physical therapy and then if the problem still persist after all that physical therapy then you need an MRI.
@@evojaymes5736 what's next? I have arthritis in my knee so I hopeing this buys me time but also want to be informed on what others do. Can you let me know what you did next plz
@@fonz660R well after the quarter Zone they gave me three injections that a like $2,000 a piece thank God Insurance paid for that. They said I would be lucky if it lasted six months to a year it didn't even last a month for me I have arthritis in my knee pretty bad also so next is surgery
1. That Dr. slouching with his legs wide open has no class. 2. He pronounces inflammation as "inFULmation". Remind me which athletes come here again? Middle school? High school?
