I like this kind of video because you show the devil in the details. I have a 64 Corvair and I will definitely re-watch this video in the future. BTW, when my last LM Corvair convertible was covered with snow I would run it with the heat on while I shoveled the driveway. The heater cleared everything to the front clip. The heat works shockingly well when sealed.

Thank you for providing such a detailed video. Can anyone tell me how to put a corvair LM on jack stands on a 4 post lift? I have a 4 post and there doesn't seem to be enough room to have the jack stands on the ramps and certainly not on the jack tray. It looks like you have some special jack stands that are not symmetric. Trying to use a hand jack and have enough room for the jack stands seems impossible.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Nothing special about the jack stands, they're just Harbor freight/ princess auto cheap stands. Maybe your lift isn't as wide as mine? I just center the car on the lift and jack from the ramps.

Need to take my engine out of my 1960 I got a valve stuck that cannot be removed I have another engine from a 1962 corvair I just need a good service manual there are people that make them I'm just not sure which is the best one
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix Год назад
The GM service manual sold by Clark's is the best way to go. Other than that you can try "how to keep your Corvair alive" but it's not really a manual.

I have some bad tranny leaks in my 64 that I can only ignore for so long. Any recommendations on a jack or stand to use when pulling the power train? I’ve got nada and am not sure what I need.
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix 2 месяца назад
Check to make sure that you actually need to pull the power train. If it's a PG, there's only one spot it can leak that requires you to pull the power train. I've done it many times on tall jack stands, you just need to make sure the whole car is high enough that you can get the engine out from under the air grill. There are lots of attachements you can get to go on a regular floor jack. I used to use a motorcycle jack and a block of wood.

@@SlowCarFix it’s a 3-speed manual. I could fix the shift shaft leak in car but it’s leaking where the trans and differential connect as well, it seems. Been topping off every three days, but it’s not cheap to keep it that way. It’s my first real project, belonged to my great grandpa.

Very nice video and informative. Love your shop in car collection. You may want to consider having someone help fast-forward through the unbolting sequences for brevity. Thanks.

Most of my videos have a time lapse "fast forward" part, but the point of this video was to show every step and every detail for someone who wants to do it themselves. It was requested by some viewers. Thanks for watching.

Nicely done. I rebuilt a 140 engine for my 65 Monza and it will be going in with a 4 speed, so I will be doing the job just like you did, using my scissor lift and HF hydraulic table. Thanks for the great info and very useful tips.

Thanks for that Ed. Enjoyed the video now it is time to go do some work on my own Corvair. Last week I repainted the spatter tone finish in the trunk of my '66 Monza (painted US style despite Canadian VIN). The DupliColor product refused to dry properly and now I have to remove a mushy mess. Leaning towards body colour under there now, but what a crappy job to deal with this... Eventually an engine compartment refresh is in order, and will be painted body colour like your car is as well. Can't wait to start driving it again too! Hope your engine problem is not too expensive!
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix Год назад
I had a yellow Oshawa built '65 that I restored, I went to the Canadian tire duplicolour trunk paint for the trunk. It was easier to look after. Especially painting the engine bay black. Also easy to touch up. Glad you enjoyed the video, hopefully it gives you some motivation. I hope my engine isn't an expensive problem, but I'm not very optimistic at this point. I think I'm in the land of thousands of dollars, not hundreds unfortunately. Thanks for watching!

Great video on removal and probably the only one as I have not seen one yet. I'm going to check through your vids to see if you have one on installation. I am having a fun time trying to get the axle's back together...

I am waiting for my engine back from the rebuilders. I might have one from a while ago of installing an engine in another Corsa. I plan to do a detailed engine install video when I have it back. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

Hi, Ed. Enjoyed your Corvair engine removal video. I’m likely going to be doing that in the future but most likely with a friend’s help. Very informative. I think I can now do this with a little knowledgeable help. Hope your Rode mic survived. I use those in my job and think they’re great. Best regards, and thanks for the Corvair videos. I really enjoy and appreciate them.

I'm glad you enjoyed and it was helpful for you. I tried to cover everything that I look at while I was doing it. It's not that difficult, but has to be thought out. My rode mic - RIP.

Of all the hack fixes I'm finding on my own '66 Corsa, the worst is that it was "converted" to a 140 4 carb from a turbo, so it has the right heads, carbs and about half of the linkages for the 140 but that's it. So far I have the wrong top shroud, probably the wrong camshaft, the wrong PCV pipe into the air cleaner, the wrong air cleaner. Biggest problem is that it would be incredibly expensive to make it a turbo as it originally was, more expensive that getting the top shroud, etc to make it a 140. I'm not sure yet which way I'm going to go.
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix Год назад
Probably best to find a used running 140 complete. They're always a mix match. Cam swap is a big deal. The rest of the stuff doesn't sound crazy to correct. I guess you need to pick a direction. These cars aren't worth a whole bunch, if it's not original at this point, it likely doesn't really matter. Just make it whatever you want she enjoy.

Another good reason to lift the car level is you are less likely to crack the throw out bearing snout or bend the input shaft on manual transmission cars. Glad to see some more Corvair content again, but I enjoy all that you put out.
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix Год назад
I don't ever split the diff from the bell housing until it's out and on the floor, or on a bench. You're right though, if you were splitting it in the car with the car unlevel, could really be a problem. Glad you enjoyed. Corvair content doesn't really do well for views, but I just record whatever I'm working on and hope for the best. I'm glad you're enjoying. There will always be Corvair content. Thanks for watching.
