hp858 so did the 2-1-2 stock exhaust have the original cat? For the duals where did you place the mufflers? I didn't see them by the tailpipes and they sound Flowmasters.
Kyle, yes, it had the original cat. The mufflers were placed slightly behind the original cat, and are Flowmasters. However, since I made this video I spun a bearing and locked up the motor. Rather than fix the 2 bolt main, I replaced it with a 4 bolt 383 stroker. Had to change the exhaust and relocated the mufflers to the original spot. I'll update the video.
I bought a 78 S.A. with the L-48 too. I bored it .030, flat top pistons, Edelbrock cam and intake and Dart iron eagle 72cc heads and headers with true dual exhaust. Runs quite a bit better now.
sounds great! Just found your video. I bought a 1980 L-48 and she is pretty as heck! Love the car! It's not a go-fast ride, and although it has dual exhaust, headers, hi-flow air filter, aluminum radiator. I think it could still go a bit faster and even more throatier. That said, I read that the engine can be bored. I guess my question is this.... can I use the existing block (I do not want to loose the matching #s) and bring the engine up to 300+ bhp? Can I put in a beefier cam, pistons, more air, etc? ANy help on this matter would be great. There is a really good corvette repair shop in the NYC area (Corvette Repair - Valley Stream, NY) which I would ask, but I would like to know ahead of time, just so I am better prepared. Edelbrock has packages that target specific horsepower - 350hp, 500hp, 750hp etc. I believe you can bring an L48 to > 300hp via bolt-on parts like you're seeking. Good Luck Ernie.
