WOW! not a single note by a single musician misplaced --- Brilliant... smooth as butter and every groove is perfect! Thank you Cory Henry and The Funk Apostles
It’s a lot of bass and drums and organ and keys and guitar and vocals. Don’t act like the bass and drums are the only aspect. Everything going on in that room is the best of the best of the best of the best.
The entire Funk Apostels musicians are great! That Reed on the BASS is dangerous ya'll He is killing it..... The Keyboardist on the NORD is Super Super Nice ya'll..... and the Drummer is locked in the pocket.... The Guitarist is so smooth... the background vocalist are doing their thing... (Tiffany ...wow, Denise ..So soulful) . Cory is the Best

It’s 1am and this 62 yo Aussie is still up enjoying some of the best music ever created. Bravo! Work in 5 hours. Might listen to this again on the drive in.👍
Started with The Bee Gees but when they started into the other songs I could hear the nice flow.. and that’s when it start grooving.. LB 2:32am February 18, 2022
in 2018 I heard this band, on Heartland festival, Denmark. It's one of the absolute best band performances I've ever heard! There are no weak links in the chain. I'm a musician myself, and I just have to take my hat off! I hope to hear them again soon! If you ever get the chance to hear them, don't hesitate.. peace and love
I'm astounded that I could be a lover of jazz for so many decades and today is the first time I've heard of Cory Henry. I've been up all night because I couldn't tear myself away from this glorious music. It's so good....I just can't stop.
@@markroberts171 absolutely! Last time I saw SP play Lingus Jacob Collier solo'd. But I've been luck to meet Cory at Ronnie Scotts di his revival set and see the Funk Apostles too a couple of years back
Sharay Reed’s solo starting around 1:18:00 is pure groove. The man is a monster on the that bass! A masterpiece. Not to mention holding down the grooves for the entire show.
So true. You just listed the 3 worst things that happened to music. Combined, they allow any talentless hack to have a 'hit record". After all the years of "no musical content" C-rap it is a joy to hear Black Americans making real music. I have missed it, especially all the wonderful singing that came out of Motown way back when
Not because someone uses tracks or sequencing that would mean they can't produce a good show with live instruments on top. Autotune yeah keep that shit out of existence.
All that tech is great stuff. In the right hands it can and does expand the art. But talent-challenged musicians who rely on it for dazzle-dazzle, their thang must be bigger than just the effects. Always.
it should be clear that everyone's idea of BS is different. Where I love this intensely as a musician myself, That fact makes me respect the art, not the tools used. There has been good music with auto tune and sequencing... even If i don't like it. It would be nice if people could like things without the need to slam something else. One can always find faults... even on this video...
Dislikes are clicked by those who are probably far from creativity and music and, probably, are not versed in singing at all. Cory you are the best! Hi from Russia! God bless you!
In my 9 years of bass playing hearing the best there is play, i dont think ive ever shed tears hearing a bass being played until this video... I literally shed a tear man because you could feel the vibes of the 60s like you were alive and there loll...
I was raised in a church with some really funky music. The audience was 2/3 black. The music was 90 percent black except for one little white dude named meee. I loved it. I still love it. I learned fantastic rhythm. I believe that god has gifted the black race with musical talent beyond other races. We all have our style but nothing loves in my spirit like black gospel soul Funk blues jazz. I promise you that at some point of my twenty plus years of playing in that church we touched it all. I’m blessed. Play drums like anyone cares. I’m just happy that I was so blessed
For those saying late 70s I was referrring more specifically to the Rollin solo... But i should have said that in the comments so its my fault loll... That particular solo represented everything that IS Motown in the 60's. I do agree though that the more up tempo joints were definitely 70s vibes. Thanks for the input guys.
@@WellseeTheend Amen brother! I was raised in the church too and learned how to play there so i definitely can relate! While our music is amazing I enjoy anything that is sonically pleasing. It can be literally anything... Even Opera loll. I just love MUSIC.
I witnessed and experienced this amazing band in Stockholm back in July 2019, together with my son who is a musician, and DAMN how the band rocked. The house was swaying, the music made everyone dance. So funky! Such a great concert! I come back again and again to this concert on RU-vid, and I can listen to the Stayin' Alive track over and over again. It's just such a heavy slow flow funk, so funky I can't walk straight. The instruments coming in one by one, just breathtaking. I love it.
Cory Henry und Nick Semrad, für meinen Geschmack ein geniales Duo an den Tasten. Dieses Video brauche ich mindestens ein Mal im halben Jahr, um mich gut zu fühlen.
Having seen (as many of you probably have) that video of a young Sharay Reed going next-level in that church over a decade ago, it seems completely unsurprising to see him here with Cory Henry. What a perfect pairing!
its ALL here ... Herbie, Carlton, Coryell, Toto, Steely, Sly & the Fam, Gospel, Nile Rodgers,, Jamerson, Chic, The Village Vanguard, The Baked Potatoe, Corea, Rocco ... Gonna grab an IPA and turn it up, my neighbor needs to hear this !
I want to listen to this all day. Thank-you for introducing me to The Funk Apostles. I must have been living under a rock, because this is just too damn good!
What a beautiful sounding group of people, I speak for myself, but I really felt like it all meant something wonderful, and I could certainly feel the music and found it easy to tell that these individuals have a passion for this, I could feel it in my body
I've been watching a number of live videos of Cory and the F A the last few days, and every time I listen I become even more aware of the incredible lines he lays down. Really drives the groove!
Just found this video, didn't know the group before: what a nice surprise! Cory and the two vocalists are superb, bass player steady and never out a bit, drum and keyboards a delicious ensemble well sustained by a funky guitar that knows melody. Funky at its best. 1h50' of pleasure.
Wow!! Absolutely loved ALL OF YOU!! Where do I start? Just soo much soul, groove, feeling, LOVE!! Can't single anyone out!!! Unbelievable musicians and singers!!!
Can't get enough of this group. This set is my favourite so far. Everybody was in the zone. The only thing I found was that the lead guitar solo was not loud enough and this wasn't his fault. But it was great! Love me some funk apostles!
Just saw these guys last night in Rochester, NY. THEY DAMN NEAR BLEW THE ROOF WITH RAW SONIC FUNK POWER!!! First song they played I swear they lit the fuse on the Grand Finale and blasted one of the speakers out. Their message is pure and holds the ultimate truth. Love Will Find Way.
wow, love the drummer. sitting perfectly and leaving room for band, listening to everyone. full of feeling. same with whole band, but had to mention the drummer. amazing musicians and music.
You know that's what they do when they're not out on the road. LOL. Was once joking with the backup singers from the the Sons of Funk that I had to take it easy 'cause it was Saturday night and I had to sing in the morning, and they're answer was "Oh honey, we understand. We all have church jobs when we're not touring."
Cory is that dude that you never just let "sit in his seat", when he's in the audience! Lol You always make him come on stage and "sit in" on the next song...or two. He's clearly anointed :-)
Unreal chemistry. Cory is a living legend. But god damn.... the funk apostles really blew me away. Back up vocals were seriously sensational. Freaking cried during "Lifes going nowhere".
You should look up some of his stuff with Marcus Miller. His solo battle with Alex Han on "Jean Pierre" (not sure if I can post the link without being flagged for spam, but search for "Marcus Miller complete 11 11 2015") is a thing to behold.
Wow I just stumbled in here from a Grateful Dead and friends track. These guys are great I especially like the Drums and Bass player tight rhythm. Its great to see an old MOOG being used. Love this hypnotizing groove they get into. Great Band.
Here's the track list: 1:30 Staying Alive (12:28 "somebody help me please"-part) 19:40 Love Will Find A Way 31:17 Our Affairs 45:55 Trade It All 54:50 1999 1:06:28 You're All I Need To Get By & Proud Mary 1:36:45 Lord Send Me A Sign & outdo-medley (NaaNaaNaa) I don't know the original titles, so I guessed the ones above. Please tell me, if there's something to be optimized. :) love and peace to y'all.
Thanks for these. I believe that Somebody help me please might be just another part of the song Staying alive, guessing by the original song by Bee Gees, where that part is also in the song :)
Every comments are about how this particular musician is great. They all are equally amazing. The groove, the feel, everything about this video is pure gold. Every musician on that stage is outstanding. The performance is amazing. I can barely stay sited I need to dance haha Y'all have an awesome day !
Great remake of Stayin Alive, this is the first time of hearing him, love the harmonies, this is music and they put in alot of time rehearsing, the arrangement is brilliant.
