we finished recording all the songs for the album in 4 days. so we decided on day 5 to hang and jam...we recorded this one and it was just way too good to not put on the album....
this is take 1.
there's one insert clip from a second take...but otherwise it was all done in one shot.

I literally just got to see Snarky Puppy last night here in my city (and they were freaking amazing as always) and I have tickets to see The Wongnotes when they are in town here in another week or so. I can't wait for them to melt off my face!

Oh my god - I didn't think it existed. I'm so happy to see this, Cory!!! 2:07 Sonny POPS 3:40 Negah with the T A S T Y percussion 4:59 Love Kevin & Kenni's reaction to bringing that back around 5:26 What a great sound - that pluck above the nut 6:15 That bass run makes me cry it's so good 6:52 "Oooh" is right, Jon 6:55 Eddie with the smoothest melodies 8:19 good GOD 8:47 caught in a tornado of Eddie Barbash and we're never escaping. It's a good thing. My favorite thing about seeing this is how obvious it is everyone is having an absolute blast jamming out

Eddie extensively quoting Bela Fleck! Don’t think we didn’t notice. This is just the jam! Such unity and concentration and love and support for so long. If only all coworkers at all jobs could send these kinds of vibes to each other. The world would be a better place. Also, that snare is so beautifully high and low at the same time- like a punch to the gut in the best possible way.

@@BloomThat It is reminiscent of the first section of "A Celtic Melody" from "Three Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and...another tune I can't put my finger on. And then someone else in the comments, pointed out "Drowsy Maggie", which is an Irish fiddle tune. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong and it was just in the style of! Or maybe a traditional Irish piece or banjo style, but it's the first thing I thought of and it hit me hard. Either way, amazing stuff pulling from around the globe and various instruments.

@@daveedson32 5 months too late. The "Drowsy Maggie" reference is used in the B section of "The Leaning Tower" from "Little Worlds" by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Just spent too much time finding it. Wouldn't be surprised if it is used elsewhere in his works. It is an ancient Irish reel. This is why I love jazz. I just went back in time to figure out where this came from (first transcription I could find was from 1858), all because Eddie decided to plop down an Irish quote in his solo. Now I need to learn a new instrument so I can play it. This reel doesn't lend itself well to brass...

Man I just heard this song for the first time yesterday--it came up on an auto playlist while I was mowing the lawn. I just had to stop mowing after I was so blown away. The solos were so damn phenomenal. Love how you can hear some of the musicians reactions from the mic bleed. Feels like a gift to be able to listen to stuff like this for the first time.
