They should stop giving so much love to the Emporium and more love to the shops. Also, we need more cosmetics which actually fit the pirate style and not ones which look like they’ve been taken out of a fancy dress shop.

I feel like there should be at least 2 brand new clothing sets per major update, purchasable at the clothing shop. Not locked behind a timed event. And more basic pirate clothing, there's too many gaudy or ripped to shreds pieces of clothing.
for me, the fact that we have so little "pirate-themed" like tricornes and shirts, is frustrating. I do believe they said they would add more general-clothing. So they should add more of those things in my opinion
Yo, general clothing gang, gotta like the tricorne hats, and…. They should totally add vests where you can see the shirt your wearing underneath the vest. Think a white shirt with a green vest and tricorne hat. That would be fire
Another solution: rather than focusing on making cosmetics themselves would be a public workshop, similar to valve/steam, where the community creates and votes for cosmetics to be added. This would probably also mean complaining from said community about why x or y cosmetic was chosen, but it is an option. guess we'll have to wait and see what they decide
Seriously I agree, the balance is off when it comes to cosmetics, I love the Pirate Emporium and what they do but I love in game rewards, maybe in the future we could have a Jolly Roger shipset complete with black and white skull and crossbones sails, locked behind a fair commendation.
As a pirate who changes his wardrobe every 5 minutes, I completely agree with all that you are saying. We need more variety! It’s so painful when I’ve got a really cool match for a jacket shirt and hat, but then there are no pants that go with it :’(
I think the emissary ledger could add new rewards a bit more often but something that’s nice about it not being every month is it allows people to take a break from grinding and be able to catch up
That's fair, although it's only a handful of hours each month. If people need to catch up, that would be good, every other month maybe? Or just more every 3 months?
I agree maybe there should be new commendations for trading companies eg athena update includes commendations and clothing rewards exclusive to those commendations
My biggest problem is the costumes, I'm glad you mentioned those near the end. It's against their whole vision. Chapman even said it again in these week's podcast, how someone's unique look reflects all the different adventures they've been on. That's why the PL stuff from season rewards and now the mementos from the adventures work so well.
I only hit PL 2 months or so ago and I feel like there isn’t still isn’t enough cosmetics, personally I dislike the dark adventurous set so there isn’t much for me to move forward for. As a player who didn’t have the time till now to truly play the game, I missed out on all getting some truly great cosmetics and I feel that Rear aren’t adding anymore to benefit anyone now
I agree. Although yes, making new coesmtic items from scratch is harder then "oh lets just switch the colors around on this pre-existing model we have", the game's progression is about coesmetics. i think the silent barnicle stuff is great because it comes with a cool set that comes with a challenging or difficult to grind commendation, it does come with cool stuff you can show off. I do think we need more "chase sets' like DA, silent barnicle, along with the occasional recolors thrown in there. although the coesmetics we have are great, i think the state of new cosmetics is looking stagnant asside from the recolor of PL weapons
I agree that there should be more cosmetics more often. I really want my jade dragon set. But maybe future seasons or the new athena voyage bring us some great new ones. Right now I am wearing Grimm's jacket with the gold curse. Would be great to see more unique clothing like it. Great video btw
Something I wished they’d consider with the pirate legend curse they’d allow anyone to unlock it after becoming pirate legend and reaching level 100 in the plunder pass of any season it kinda be like the introduction to curses its very slick and all around lovable and I hate not seeing more players with it gives something for new players to look forward to
I think they did something similar with the barrel hide emote and the dice emotes, and I wish they did the same with stuff like that. If only I got the game earlier and the curse might have been in my grasp..

Honestly, I’d really just like more things to spend gold on! I feel like I’m playing just for fun these days, which is great, but it’d be nice to feel the pressure of banking the loot because you really need it - rather than just adding a few coins to your Scrooge McDuck horde.
I would love to see more unique items in the clothing shop, the best thing about the way the cosmetics work is that you can choose many items from different sets, allowing you to make your own individual look. (I also really want the option to save outfit combinations but that’s a topic for a different day)
Yes! The amount of incomplete sets is mindboggling! 1 off stuff like Merrick's Tankard... I don't expect that to ever get a set. However, why is there no Daring Deceiver Shipset? Equipment? Weapons? You see people rock Daring Deceiver even today... they'd love more options. The Costumes are the most infuriating thing. Great ideas for curses are being soaked up into these standardized costumes. Imagine being able to use the Lodestar curse with Sudd's Jacket? Using the Frostbite Curse with the Frozen Horizon set? Why are all these really neat curses put on COSTUMES!? Ugh... I get it... new players love costumes... but come on! Let us work for the pieces individually!
My only problem with costumes is that you can’t mix and match things which sucks,I also wish there were more skins that you could earn with commendations but really it’s up to rare about how they choose to give us cosmetics

I want more commendation cosmetics! I would rather work hard on a specific task to earn a special cosmetic than just be handed them or buy them in shops
They need to add an accessories to the game honestly. Would be awesome if your were able to wear stuff like necklaces, rings or maybe even masks such as the reaper ones
I think I have a pretty simple solution for cosmetics. (I mean the idea is simple, but obviously they'd have to work a fair amount of time on it): First of all, each commendation and each grade within each commendation should unlock 1 new cosmetic. One focus is on the unlocking, as these would still have to be bought afterwards. Secondly, the season pass should also give you money after lvl 100, doubloons, possibly ancient coins, and most importantly a recolor(s) of the clothing set you would get anyway. Obviously, in addition to these, I would also give a PL only cosmetic for every level 10 (lvl 10, 20, 30, 40, etc.) Third, I don't mind the recolors. However: we should get a full set every month, with clothes, ship, everything. Plus it would be nice if they finally stopped recoloring the same 3 sets in the same 4 color palettes. And finally the most important: Every Season we should get a completely new set, again with everything. Now, this contradicts the first point in a way that these complete sets should be added to the commendations that come in the season, but to be honest I don't really care which version is implemented, as long as it's one of them, because what we have now is really nonsense. That's really it. It would be that "simple" to solve the cosmetics problem. We should simply introduce some well-functioning system, so that we get new things all the time.
I couldn't agree more. But not only do we need more cosmetics, we need more pirate looking cosmetics. ATM there are too many players that are either a beacon of light or dressed as a crab/parrot
I agree with the theming the plunder pass legend cosmetics around each other as cool as say mericks tankard is, it is the complete opposite of grimms jackets and would’ve been much cooler if we got the rest of the ashen lords jackets instead
Let's be honest. Everyone was mad after seeing the commendation rewards for new forts. I really like the idea of grinding commendation for cosmetics(i try to farm schorched forsaken ashes ship set), but the set i really want to be completed is burning blade ship set and cosmetics (we all know why) or at least the jade dragon and lucky hand(i wonder how it would be looking)
I would love more piratey looking cosmetics, im very sick of this high fantasy glowing crab outfit with attached robot hand. I just want more cool actual pirate cosmetics that arent artstyle breaking
The random clothing in the shop are simple but thats not the problem. The clothing has nothing to go with because it is the slightest different color than everything else, like the grey mask in the beard category, it has no clothing or hair go with, I was expecting a hair style covered in cloth to go with but it doesn’t.
I couldn't agree more, cosmetics are a huge part of SoT, and developing your pirate's look over time with items that reflect your character, is one of the best parts of the game in my opinion. I hope we'll see more items added for commendations that reflect our pirate's journey. It's a shame that many don't even offer titles as a reward! From what I've seen of this community, offering unique rewards for accomplishments is one of the best ways to engage players long-term. The like-minded people I met while grinding all my Hunter's Call commendations are some of the most dedicated fans of the game, and that's only for a title. The subpar rewards for a lot of commendations, and even just the limited basic items available in the shops leave players wanting, especially when a pirate game is lacking with simple piratey stuff! Add all that with the outlandish and frequent items being added to the emporium, and it's quite understandable why the playerbase is disgruntled with the current cosmetic conundrum.
Idk if it’s just me, but I like Scrums costume from the Jack Sparrow costume set. I almost like it more than Jacks. Something about the simplicity and color scheme makes it look more pirat-y to mr
I didn't really notice the lack of customisation until this video, it is very strange that, on game with only customisation as progression they are reskinning previous items earn able in game multiple times, why they don't add a dye clothing option is beyond me, the rare devs seem very relaxed and probably a bit lazy due to the emporium bringing in steady cash flow, it seems they don't allow much criticism either in that subject. I think a dye station on ship or outposts would fix the variation issue and a boot up the a** would fix the cosmetic issue.
I agree, the cosmetics in this game are really sad. I haven't gotten to the point yet where I can purchase everything but I can imagine how boring it must get going into the store, and seeing that there is still nothing to purchase. I wish that in the season progression there was more things to get and less gold and doubloons because let's face it, it's not hard to get gold or doubloons in this game. Same with the plunder pass, I mean it's pretty sad how few things you get per season plunder pass. Like yes, I get that you're paying a lot less than if you were to get it when it comes out officially in the pirate emporium, but it's still a pretty small amount of items. And like you said, they just keep creating new sets, rather than finishing the ones that exist. Like the sunken sorrow set, the weapons, and the ship look awesome, but what about the equipment and the clothing?? That's what I want, that and the Bell Brigade stuff from season 5, and pumpkin stuff from season 4. I also think that linking cosmetics to commendations should be the norm each each season, I was actually shocked that there was nothing from the season 6 stuff. Like I'm still working on the sunken sorrow stuff from season 4, and the party boat stuff of season 5.
Definitely agree, could use more cosmetics and would like them tied to commendations, much more satisfying to get them that way. Separately, would like more things to spend doubloons on - maybe bring back some old voyages? I didn't play the game early enough to do the early mercenary voyages.
This video 100%! Season 6 has been the worst in terms of cosmetic for the past year, which is a huge bummer considering the possibilities that come with these forts. And as someone who cares WAY more about ship cosmetics, can we stop just getting some miss matched pieces in the season? Also let’s see an uptick in PL content. 2 items every season feels like Pirate Legend’s are just an afterthought. I know we’re getting an update to PLs later this season but it’s taken *four* *years* for that to happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t get that many cosmetics either. Again, great video! It’s summed up all of my frustrations with the game at late.
Okay, hot take. I love the seasons, but they do need to add more PL stuff that “can” come to game after the season is over if, IF, they can. Costumes are the bane of my existence. They need to make the outfit pieces, are heck, make more tabs for customizations like jewelry, masks, glasses, and more. That would fix the costume issue possibly. I personally want remodels of the Ashen Dragon and Ghost clothing sets. Like I worked my but off to get to Athena 10 back in the day… and I got a clown vest, an okay hat, and the rest of the set was good. They also need to make the Ashen Dragon clothing set more ashen lord’y. I don’t want a tofu box as a hat😂😭. But that’s my stick in all of this.
Trying for the 6 pack again. Fingers crossed. You honestly kind of echoed a lot of my thoughts. They've been slacking on earnaboe cosmetics for way to long. The recolor are tired and overdone. The party boat set for the most part was really nice in season 5, I love the ship. The midnight blades clothing while not really fitting in a pirate game was still a nice clothing set. Other than that though it's been forever since we've gotten anything good. And I'm not looking forward to what's to come later in season 6 either. Though I can't go into detail on that part. I'm tired of incomplete sets. I'm tired of recolors. Just one new set a season. Just one would be nice.

This is wishful but I'd say: Season Pass: -1 full NEW set -1 full RECOLOUR set -5 PL items -Plunder Pass is good as is imo Commendations: -1 full NEW set Buyable: -1 full RECOLOUR set (each month) -1 full NEW PL set (each season) Ledgers: -2 NEW items each month (for each ledger) Not that this would ever happen but that would be my ideal layout for a cosmetic-based game. Agreed. The incomplete sets are pretty annoying. It would be nice if there were some repeat opportunities to get some time-limited stuff. When some of it's only available on a single weekend and you're on holiday it's super frustrating to miss out with no recourse. Let me use my doubloons or something. ;)
My main complaint about the emporium is that they release some of the best clothing in the game, but they release them as costumes. Me and my girlfriend have recently looked at two costumes that we would quite liked to take parts of for our pirates as they suit our personalities, favourite colours and the activities our pirates get up to in games. Like how I'm known for being quite the pyromaniac with gunpowder barrels among my friends and rare just released brand new explosive gunpowder barrel themed sets. It all looks so good to me, but why release things like that as costumes? Everyone on the sea ends up looking exactly the same when most people would buy the entire set from the emporium just to get specific parts of it.
I feel like a lot of the best cosmetics are locked behind timed events. It’s models like that which hurt a game imo. I should be wanting to play the game because it’s fun not because of fomo.

I think they really should start finishing all the unfinished sets. There are so many different sets with so much potential. And we need more (and harder to get) ledger rewards to be something special for active players.
I found it similar to the Halloween ship, play a full season then pay for the last few bits. I don't mind not getting a full set but I would rather get achievement sails similar to the flameheart sails and maybe even a set
I remember how I was grinding towards pirate legend to get that sweet headfigure in season 2. Then I strated grinding to get the jacket of the damned. Then the forskaen ashes set, umbra's tatoos, and...the only thing left is the gold curse. I kinda feel scared about what the game has to offer after that. Having unique cosmetics locked behind commendation is a huge driver for people to play. If there was super rare, unique cosmetics behind sinking enemy player ships, doing the new Spanish forts, or for doing something as crazy as 50 FoFs, it would greatly change and impact retention. Along with being able to show off your hard work.
On top of that, you need a good amount of normal things to purchase. Can't just drop 4 items and lock them behind crazy commendations and call it a day for a few months. The game has been out for what, 4 years now? And we certainly don't have 4 years worth of earnable cosmetics... Especially when you consider that is the only progression this game has. How crazy is it that we still only have 5 curses? The amount of wasted potential this game has just kills me.
SOT Has plenty of content for me still. But I got legend back in 2019 when it was hard. Got burnt out. Then recently got back into it. Soo much to do. Sad that I missed out on all the plunder pass goodies tho :( Met some awesome pirates along the way. Deeply enjoying still.
I got a figurehead idea so you put the Athena keg in the middle and then on one side you put the stronghold keg and the other side a regular keg then you put some explosion like smoke (earnabl by holding the keg haul record at one point)
They oughta bring back an earnable version of pirate legend curse, but to keep the exclusivity of the original event, do something like the Black markets stuff, where the eyes are off colour or maybe only one of your eyes lights up. That way there would be a cool curse fir casual and new pirate legends to unlock and it wouldn't invalidate the people who earned the original

I think the best example of what your talking about is the trading company sets with the gold hoarder one being the most complete but still lacking most equipment.
I think for a new player, there is plenty of cosmetics to unlock and commendations to grind for to unlock them, but for someone who has played for a while and owns most of the stuff there is definitely not enough being released. Even if they just release a few complete recolour sets each season which are locked behind new commendations it would greatly improve the cosmetic situation
Just make simple pirate clothes with ropes, stitching and muted colors. I hate that my options are neon rave pirate or bulky festive pirate. Like watch the pirates moves but imagine Johnny deep wearing the ocean crawler set..
Like you said the balance has been off for FAR too long, theyve become content with how it is, and I doubt it will improve anytime soon, the ONLY recent improvement on earnable stuff is adventures and even then its so incredibly abysmall.

I'm still fairly new to the game, so I've still yet to see a lot of the cosmetics in-game, but even from my experience it feels like something that's definitely lacking is the number of items that look good on fatter player models. It makes it hard to make a decent looking loadout when almost every jacket just looks swollen on you. Something that once looked intimidating now looks goofy a lot of the time. Not entirely sure how this would be worked around, but it'd definitely be appreciated to have future cosmetics that make a hulking behemoth of a pirate look like something to be feared or praised, rather than someone who looks like they belong in a circus. Maybe a sumo wrestler set, or for something experimental, a costume that turns you into a meteorite like how the Forest's Blessing costume turns you into a tree. The thought of a gigantic pirate-shaped meteor flying at your ship from a cannon sounds like it'd be one hell of a sight to behold.
Yeah great idea, make the shit we have more tedious to unlock instead of just consistently dropping a good amount of cosmetics... Nothing says fun quite like inflation!
I only started the game in December 2021 and thought there was so much cosmetics but after awhile I noticed quite abit of it are reskins. I was hoping the adventure story rewards was all gonna be shrouded items to eventually end with a shrouded curse... the disappointment that came upon me when I got the not briggsy but definitely reskin briggsy's sword

lol I feel pretty much the exact opposite, I find there to be way to much grind of limited time cosmetics and stuff that there is no way I can keep up with unlocking them all. It kinda kills the game for me since I get so stressed just thinking about them
The biggest Issue I have is that some cosmetic slots get neglected, for the longest time, and I would argue this remains true, the scars section is pretty barren, I wouldn't mind having some more generic ones instead of the fancy ones that look like someone branded/tortured your pirate. (Also more curses) I think rare could definitely do a bit more like the classic mask thats also a beard, for example a bunch of shiny rings that go on your fingers via the gloves. Jewelry in general would be cool, and by limiting them to current equip slots rare can avoid having to work around other clothing.
I've probably said this like a million times already but... skeleton curse is a must. Also maybe some more variety in the shops, recolors are nice and all but some new stuff wouldn't be amiss. I always get excited when I get a commendation or something and I find out I unlocked some goodies.
I’ve played off and on since open beta, heavily in season 1 and then dropping off until the end of season five/beginning of six. I can honestly say that the only thing I really want are the DA sails, and to a lesser extent; the rest of the set of course. But I know that when I finally do save up enough to get those coveted sails I will start to see them everywhere. Which is to be expected of course, But really The one thing I want cosmetically, is to NOT look like every other pirate on the seas. So yeah some variations would be nice to see in the pirate legend shops specifically.
I'm more shocked that you think that the balance between earnable and purchasable cosmetic drops were ever at an acceptable level tbh. I'm not opposed to micro transactions to support a game that I love playing and I have bought some things from the pirate emporium, so I don't have an issue with that existing (ship sets are way too expensive though...), but ever since the release of the emporium there has been a massive imbalance of cosmetics being put into the game. Then again, before the emporium they were barely releasing cosmetics anyway... They are just terrible at dropping new cosmetics, and I can't imagine it's a lack of talent because we know they sit on shit that has been finished for years for whatever reason. I love SoT despite not playing it often anymore, but they make it so hard to be a fan... They have these good ideas and then end up fucking it up some how, like the Dark Adventurer set. I understand it's there for people to earn in the long run, but do people realise how much time they actually need to put into the game to earn just that 1 full set? Everything they do gets over tuned to the point of being unfun and unrewarding. All the tedium of a Korean MMO without any of the rewards.
They should make a feature like in warframe where you can color your clothes, we can buy color pallets and we can color preset parts of our outfit. Lets say primary, secondary colors, tertiary, accents. That way we can rebuy a given cosmetic, go and recolor it to our liking and pay for the recoloring. I think this will exponentially help the game to feel fresh and also people will look more unique because they will have a way of expressing themselves.
Fun fact: the ashen dragon set has some unreleased peices! Off the top of my head, there is a hat and some gloves. You can see them in the pirate emporium, posing for emotes.
Kinda surprised there's not a crafting system of any kind. Could give more depth to cosmetics. Maybe you could slay X megalodons, or something relating to them, and take them to a craftsman that make it's pelt a jacket, or stuffs it and makes it a figurehead. No scaly clothing for master fishermen? There's honestly so much to explore.
The jacket at 4:05 is the original morningstar jacket you get when you are doing revenge of the morningstar. after you complete the tall tale it disappears from your inventory
Still don’t know why they haven’t added jewelry? Rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, etc… Exclusive “cosmetics” for completing tall tales, adventures, quests, commendations, etc… Seem like a no-brained to me.
Overall I feel like there should be more special items purchasable by doubloons to make it more of a lucrative skin to have. but the doubloon skins even though the look nice, aren't any more special then regular currency cosmetics.
Like even the new naval commander stuff should’ve been unlocked by getting all commendations for the new sea forts, cuz like you don’t get anything for it, so what’s the point of even doing them if you have plenty of gold
I don't care about gold or treasure anymore since there's nothing to buy. Im still playing because the game is fun, but it would be nice to have a goal to work towards again.. Not everyone might like it but i think they should put the time limited cosmetics back in the game. No time needed to make those and newer player never had te chance to get some of these items. Just lock them behind certain commendations or you can only buy them once you are pirate legend. Or just make everything more customizable, instead of a set colour scheme, have variations for everything with a choice for primary and secondary colour or something. That way you can make your pirate/ship more personal.

I’m at that point where i’m just considering quitting the game, the grind for the emissary ledger or whatever new content there is just isn’t worth it, the lack of cosmetics is just sad, especially considering how much the emporium gets each goddamn month, it’s insane how many things there are in the emporium now. And the few cosmetics we do get are always incomplete, hardly pirate themed and nowhere near as detailed as the emporium stuff. This game just doesn’t feel very piratey anymore to me. No doubt the new pirate legend stuff coming later this season will also be disappointing as most of everything else these days. i miss year 1 and 2 of SoT.
Another problem for me is how many of the veteran player cosmetics are locked for new players who want to become serious about the game. With the removal of arena some of the most grindy sets just got removed, and so many of the best cosmetics were time-limited. I think what they did with the soulflame cosmetics was really smart, where it's much harder to get it after an event, but still possible.
When was the last time we got an actual new clothing set that wasn't a recolour, not including season pass rewards? They really gotta start putting in the effort into one of the best parts of this game because this has gone on for too long imo
@@AShinyRay Wouldn't the Party Boat set count as the most recent full set with both clothing/weapon/ship? Only missing equipment for it, but we also got the Midnight Blades clothing set at that time. Nonetheless though I 100% agree with your thoughts on the unfortunate state of this cosmetic drought. I've been seeing it discussed quite a lot in the community recently so hopefully Rare will address it soon.
I agree with most of the things you said but they should make the Spanish ship set locked behind commendations and with the emisary ledger they hold keep it as it is but when you get all the obtainable items you will still gain emmisary value but it will quarter it and give you that amount of gold at the end of the season so no matter what chances are you will get pirate legend before you gain all the extra gold so will have the dark adventurer set to gain and unless you get several million you can't by many items outside of clothing and equipment
