Still my favourite tutorial! I just ordered some LED strip lights for a homemade mocap helmet and I am going to hazard a guess that I would need all three PCBs connected to make white... I am excited to tackle something functional with my 3D printer

I like the way you make the eye's and also to help your vision without making your eyes being anoyed by the light.

a cheap option for diffusion is tracing paper. otherwise actually using diffusion gels for theater lighting. i work at a theater and as the props master, i had to make a magic mirror that lights up for beauty and the beast. theres all sorts of different levels of diffusion that work incredibly. i dont think its too much but of course there are always cheaper options.

Hey Bill, if you hate waiting on hot glue (aka hot snot :D) to cool; try using a smooth metal tool, like the back end of a pair of tweezers. It acts like heat sink and cools it very fast, almost like ca glue with accelerator.

really nice to see this come together. You might want to try a few concentric circles on the opposite side of the grid, just to obscure the LEDs a smidge more. Also, mask the acrylic off before you do the circles so you can hit it with some model glue if you want, just to add some gunmetal into the cut lines. ALSO ALSO .. you can always add a resistor in the circuit to dim the LEDs a smidge.

Translucent Milk Carton plastic works well for diffusion too if you're on a budget and/or don't have a laser cutter.

@AlexSwavely
@AlexSwavely 7 лет назад
Or, take clear acrylic and scratch the grid into it by using either the dull side of an xacto blade or a "dental pick" for the exact same effect. (use a metal ruler to keep the lines straight)
@duskears8736
@duskears8736 7 лет назад
@lennier1 As @TheRunesmythe points out and you can see in the video most diffusion materials will be difficult to see through. It's kinda part of the theater of it though. Like in the X-men movies every time Storm went goddess mode the actress couldn't see through the contact lenses even though the character could. Alternatively you could go high tech and use some cameras and tiny screens, but that's reaching into a whole new price range most cosplayers can't afford.

Really awesome project. Have you ever used the LED strips with the gel protective covering on them? I wonder if you sprayed them with a matte finish if it would diffuse the light even more? Not necessarily for this project, but it was just a thought that popped in my head to help get away from that "dotted" led look. Never tried it though :)

@sm_smurfie6620
@sm_smurfie6620 7 лет назад
Daniel Wiggins don't try to promote your "great quality" products in the comment section of a video. And don't try to one-up Bill's idea that worked great. When it comes to knowledge in this category, he's probably going to know more than everyone.
@DaniMakes
@DaniMakes 7 лет назад
Uber Nova nah, you misread that. I already offered him use of my lenses in a different video. he responded that he already had some from one source and would contact me if they didn't work out. I'm replying to that, saying I'm glad he got the others to work out. You are mistaken though, since my lenses do work better and just because he is a popular RU-vidr doesn't mean he knows how to do everything better than everyone else. hence why he used a lens kit from someone else. the only difference I can see is the reflective inside or blue lens might be darker than mine, making it harder to see inside.
@sm_smurfie6620
@sm_smurfie6620 7 лет назад
Daniel Wiggins "You are mistaken though, since my lenses do work better, and just because he is a popular RU-vidr doesn't mean he knows how to do everything better than everyone else." There are 3 things wrong with that. 1. If your lenses "work better", than why didn't Bill use them? 2. How would you know the lenses work better on the helmet? And, if you've actually bought the same kit as Bill AND built it the SAME WAY be did, then how would you know what Bill likes, because he made the eye parts how HE likes them. 3. I didn't say Bill was better at EVERYTHING than everyone else, I said that he has more experience and knowledge in this hobby. And he GOT popular on RU-vid for being good at this hobby. It's not like he got famous for his comedy. So I'm a way, you just proved yourself wrong.
@DaniMakes
@DaniMakes 7 лет назад
Uber Nova im not here to argue with you. it really was just a response to the convo we had previously. you got bent out of shape over it because you thought I was trying to promote my stuff. I apologize if it looks that way since that is not my intention. I didn't link anything... so I am not promoting it. I was saying mine work better because Brittany said in the video she can't really see. I was commenting that you can see out of mine. why are you making such a big deal over a comment on a video?
@sm_smurfie6620
@sm_smurfie6620 7 лет назад
Daniel Wiggins I just really love Bill and his channel and I've never seen anyone promote their stuff, and I got defensive because that's the number one thing that kills a channels comments. And the comments are the best part about the video because people can share their common opinions.

So does the blue filter work for only red I’m trying to make a mask with white or yellow light and im pretty sure the mask could be thick enough for that type of set up or if needed it could be compacted slightly but yeah does the blue filter work on white light or yellow light if it has to be a color or do i have to get something else
@punishedprops
@punishedprops 4 года назад
Yes the blue is specifically used to cancel out the red. If your LEDs are a different color than red, you would need to use another color lens.
@toxfox0
@toxfox0 4 года назад
Punished Props Academy would you happen to know what color it’d have to be for yellow or white
@BioClone
@BioClone 3 года назад
@@toxfox0 I guess thats a problem as white canot be properly shielded, I guess you should base it on R G B, using one of the ones you dont want to use, Yellow is a mix of Red and green, so probably the blue shielding could work for yellow light the same as it does with red, while using other color (like red or green) as shielding would allow half the light spectre to go though it. Also consider that to create proper yellow lighting you must consider to have 2 different led colors on the visor (both red and green 50-50)
