meh in a swords man perspective this looks staged. Also they are trying not to hit each others and only hits eachothers swords. Look for Military saber sparring and you'll find a real good ones
@lindgrenland
@lindgrenland 13 дней назад
@@N2Nitrator To spar like this "properly", in a martial sense, you would wear protective gloves, and this would essentially be a sniping contest of eachothers hands through lunge and retreat. Because that's what this would be, with zero hand protection, in an actual duel. Unless you had some sort of judicial or cultural rules strictly prohibiting hand cuts, going for a "first blood" sort of deal like in polish sabre. On the other hand, this sword probably carries really well and comfortably as a sidearm, and in a pinch you could draw and unleash it very quickly with quick defensive cuts, or deliver that one devastating blow. Also, it would make for an excellent sabre for light cavalry (which I assume is its origin). Not the best for a duel situation, I think, even against itself. Now, throw in a small shield and I think this could be a perfect fighting sword
@Toatony
@Toatony 3 года назад
Nobody's smart for pointing out that it's scripted. Obviously it is. But I think a lot of people are missing the point that despite it being more of a scripted dance, there is a ton of skill on display here from the speed of the demonstration to the footwork, to the control of the strikes. There's probably more to it as well that I'm just not noticing because I'm not trained in the martial art.

@@khakimzhanmiras Dodge and run. If you are very lucky to distract swordsman - shorten the distance, block hand with a sword and turn fight into wrestling, disarm. On close distance there is no room to attack with a sword. In fair fight chances are close to zero - if swordsman is not trying to chop unarmed guy into 2 pieces with 1 wild swing he can always keep safe distance threatening with pointed end or cutting parts of the sword. Can be incomprehensible even for a Ukrainian from the East region. I'd say our mentalities have gone separate ways over the past 10 years. Ukrainians became very freedom conscious after one of our elected presidents tried selling us out to Russia. The capital was a battleground, and he eventually escaped. We chose another president. I'll get a lot of shit for saying this, but Russians never knew what to do with their freedom, they always needed a master, that's how Putin managed to stay in power for a 1/4 of century. @fedorkalu8319
@fedorkalu8319 4 месяца назад
There are three main sabers types of sabers used at the period of Cossacks (17-18 century): Polish-Hungarian, Karabela and Husarska (Hussar). You can spin the Polish-Hungarian (they were the most widespread at the time so they are probably the ones you are seeing at that video) and the Karabela ones. You cannot spin the Hussar ones because they have an enclosed hilt. Theoretically, you can spin any saber with an open hilt (but I would not know for sure). In terms of the length, the overall length for all the three types varied from 920-950 millimetres, while the blade was 790-850 millimetres. The width of the blade was 30 millimetres or more for Husar and Polish-Hungarian and slightly less for Karabela (was known for its light weight). Here is a link for you which you will be able to translate if you want: www.akademia-broni.pl/sprzet/szabla/ Thank you for your interest. Made me do the research and find some interesting things out.

That's because it's totally choreographed, and out of range. They're just swiping at each others' swords, which is a shame, because these guys can actually fight, and presumably DO spar.

To the people saying that this is scripted and that they are only aiming for the sword... Well of course they are fighting with steel sabers and they barley wear clothes so 1 hit could mean a broken bone or maybe even death and also besides that you sometimes aim for the enemy's sword in a fight to try and open his guard so you get a free hit

@@Yarblocosifilitico Yes, that's correct. However, this was not actual fighting, though entertaining to watch. Before you say, of course they weren't really fighting, that means someone dies; no.
