How much does it cost to live in Croatia? Is Croatia cheap or is it expensive? In this travel vlog, I take you around the capital city of Zagreb to show you the cost of common items like food, transportation, gyms, entertainment, cell phone plans and more. I provide the prices in Kuna and US Dollar conversion for all items in this video.
Drop a comment and let me know what you think about the prices in Croatia - do you find them cheap, or expensive? I'd be curious to know :)

I’d love to see apartment cost video! 🙏🏼 I just got back from Croatia last week. We were in Zagreb and Zagorje most of the time with family but did manage to make it to see Dubrovnik. I am really missing the coffee, it doesn’t compare to American coffee… and gemišt with the family. 🤪

Minimum wage in Croatia is 550E ($620) total net of taxes with social security (pension plan) and universal healthcare included. And you can live with that money just fine outside of Zagreb and coastal places which are tourist ridden. And in Zagreb - almost noone receives that. Average net pay in Zagreb is 1250E / mo. And you can have good 2 bdr aparment for 600-800E / mo, utilities included. If there is 2 of you (roommate, partner) - thats under 30% for living expence...

quite simple from a local : its pretty much expensive if you don't own your house and have a average paying job ( more or less ) its pretty cheap if you got a nice income from local or outside source

Weeeeellllll, we need a little update on this one. Since a lot of things has happened in the meantime, SOME of the prices have drastically gone up... If you know where to look, you will find places that still offer great service at the same price as before. For example, let's look at the price of pizza, the regular size, not the jumbo, nor small. Looking back, I remember when they were usually around 30-35 kuna (4 - 4,5 €, let's say 10-15 or so years ago), then they've gone up to 40-45 kuna (5,5 - 6€, 4 years ago), and the latest you will usually pay is around 10 €. Sometimes it may be even more. Looking at the delivery apps, pizzas come at 7€, BUT then in the menu you need to check the regular (some call it large) size pizza, which drives the price to something like 8,5 €. Those are still among the cheapear ones.

Zagreb is cheap enough, but along the Dalmatian coast like Zadar prices have jumped considerably since joining the euro in January. Dubrovnik is incredibly expensive, beautiful city but a complete tourist trap and ruined with mass tourism. Loads of locals complaining they can't socialise in their own city because of the ridiculous prices.

yes. majority of people speak english. especially younger people. older people might not speak it but they might understand what you are saying. depending where you are in croatia, people might also speak italian and german. and you can always use google translate if you are in totally hopeless situation but in general, yes, people speak english because we are tourist country.

The question should be: How much fuel can the average monthly salary from the country you live/reside in get you in croatia? And how much fuel can the average croatian monthly salary get you in croatia?
@jelenad6367
@jelenad6367 Год назад
You might not even need a car so why bother with that question. It depends which city you choose and will you live on outskirts or neaeby the centre. Also, will you live in outskirts which are still heavily connected with different public transportation plans. Because we have good public transport.

Yes, croatian foreign minister can give you a visa. No joking, now it's pretty easy to come to Cro for work considering how it was before. Croatia inviting foreign citizens to work here cause lot of our people went abroad for a better job in EU. Lot of people from India and Nepal (other countries too) came here for a job. Fifteen Indi's people work in my friends firm, and as he said they are happy with job and salary and want to stay. I don't know about Visa expire, but he said they came year ago, first in Zagreb and before few months part of them came here(Split) to his firm. Apart of that, i see a lot people from India and Nepal in the city on the streets. That wasn't case few years ago, and you can see the difference easily. Looks like number of them is getting bigger every month so i guess that they like to live here.

Prices jumped drastically in last couple of years. Average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment: approximately €530 to €930 Average price per square meter for buying a property: approximately €1,060 to €1,990 It all depends on the location, this is just a rough estimate. you could find places that are much cheaper or much more expensive as you can see, average rent for one bed room apartment is around the same as average monthly salary

Who is your targeted auditory? IFun vid but really useless for both tourists and people with intention to stay in Croatia for a long time. As a tourist I'd care more about hotels, AB&B, transportation, local scenery and entertainment cost then potato or pizza price. Long term rental, work, minimal wage etc. Grocery is important but in my experience it is about same through whole Europe. Few $ or few $ more doesn't make much difference for short stay and people staying for a long time obviously find shops based on personal preferences and budget.

Thanks for your comment Lara :) Right at the beginning of the video I said that my intention was to give viewers a general idea of what common items cost here (including entertainment and transportation which are both mentioned in the video). This video is not as relevant to tourists as it is to digital nomads, for example, who are looking to stay in Croatia for a longer period of time.
