I use Iliad, 7.99 euro per month (can never go up) unlimited calls, texts, 50GB per month, free calls to the US and no contract, can quit at anytime. I understand Iliad has a new program with 100GB for 12 euro per month. Service is great, fast internet when hot spotting and no dropped calls.

Can you make a video on what a tourist can/should buy for data in Italy? I used global data plan with my American cellular company when I went and it was pretty expensive for 10 days. I would assume buying some sort of alternative in Italy would be more cost effective. Great video as always and thank you for all the content!

Great information! Thanks!!! I'm too far from being able to move to Italy - a lot of specifics will change. But good references material. I agree with you about smaller cities. I lived most of my Adult Life in Manhattan...loved it but would never go back.

Thank for all the info. I just bought a house in rural Picinisco, Frosinone and will need to install internet from scratch, like satellite dish and everything. Any idea how much that would set me back and which of these companies you mentioned would be able to help with that? Thank You

If I were a foreigner and I need a mobile card in Italy for a short time I would take a Iliad simcard. Easy going to a shopping mall and buying the card thru' the simbox.. the cheapest rate.
@RafaelDiFuria
@RafaelDiFuria 3 года назад
I would deffinately agree! And this was a point I forgot to mention in the video although for a foreigner to get to a mall can be a bit of an undertaking at the beginning of their new expat life, however the nice thing about Iliad is that they will also send you the sim in the mail, you just need a copy of your ID to give to the delivery person. then on top it's a prepaid plan and can be canceled but even for many people here in Italy I do think it's actually one of the better options available, I personally would prefer it to ho. One of the other nice things about Iliad is that they do support visual voicemail unlike a lot of carriers here

There are some interesting offers for data only, or data + phone, from Poste Mobile (italian posta service company). For example now they have a plan named "PosteMobile Casa Web" at Euro 20.90 (instead of Euro 26.90) + Euro 29 activation fee. It offers unlimited Internet, WiFi rouuter (but the SIM can also be used in other routers) and speed up to 300 Mbps for 4G+. Poste Mobile is a full MVNO (virtual operator). It is actually swtiching from Wind Tre network to Vodafone network. They have also signed ontracts with OpenFiber and TIM to start selling services also on landlines (fiber).

Thanks for the reminder ... I needed to pay my Vodafone bill. I've C'all Global (1000 Italian minutes, 300 International minutes, 30 gigs of data, and unlimited data for Social Media apps; also no roaming in EU) and an additional 30 gigs of data; all for 15€ per month.

The major operations also sell you extra things that you didn't ask for and you have to manually remove them form the client service, like they add you 300 SMS for 3€ every month

I've only had that with TIM, I've heard of Vodafone doing that, but I've only ever experienced that on prepaid plans, definitely not fun or okay to deal with.

Iliad has the best price, but.... it has no VoLTE, no HD Calls, a bad signal. I only reached 100Mbps in Milan, but in my friend city near Turin and in my city it's very very slow.

I feel the same way about American customer service though too. In the last 5 years or so, I have had way more negative ones than positive ones. It is like these companies just don't care. And Verizon has been one of the worst offenders.

Seems that in the US, it's more a matter of which mobile company is the lesser of the evils, rather than which is the best. Given how expensive US cell plans are, the least they could do is provide decent customer service. 🙄
@marleneyoung6575

Very interesting. I live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and our rates here are much higher. Very interesting that they have service in those mountain towns that actually works. On the topic of customer service. NO the USA does not have better customer service. Comcast stinks. BTW: Noticed you are wearing a cap again. I really think you look so much more handsome without the hat.

Will the prices of certain plans be the same in different regions? Example : will plan A be the same price in milan and naples? Or will there be slight differences ? I hope that makes sense. Thanks for the great video.
@RafaelDiFuria
@RafaelDiFuria 3 года назад
Great question Joseph! I have seen prices called special regional prices but then I saw the same deal in the next region... so hard for me to say for sure, I would think there could be this possibility but at the same time, because italy is so small I think it could be tough to organize regional specials, but what you see quite often are online only specials

We got Vodafone when we were in Portugal and kept it when we got to Germany. I'm thinking I'll keep it when we move to Italy. Do you know anything about it in Italy?
@RafaelDiFuria
@RafaelDiFuria 3 года назад
Meaing you have the Portugese simcard but want to use it in Italy then live here? If I'm not mistaken that could be cause for cacelation of the contract back in Portugal, the roaming is usually only meant to be used for brief periods, however a lot about what I know regarding Vodafone Italy is in this video. Even though they are supposed to have the fastest network, if I were moving to Italy they wouldn't be my first choice for my first sim card here.
@majebrennan5668

@@RafaelDiFuria No, after we sailed across the Atlantic and got to Lagos, Portugal, we got a Portuguese Vodafone SIM card. We sailed to Spain and got a Vodafone SIM card. So when I drove up to Germany, I stayed with Vodafone. I thought I'd just stay with Vodafone. I'm not sure if I have to have my phone unlocked (got it through Germany Vodafone) before I leave.

I'm the worst peson to ask to translate names of dishes haha or just translations in general, but my best guess would be pane di banana or banane (but I'm sure there may be an Italian who can correct the both of us who might read this comment ^_^ Although now that I think about it it's possible an Italian might say banana bread, you'd be surprised how much english gets used here... but especially for a propper name, it could be possible but anyway congratulations on making it through the video 😜

You can use banana bread without any problem! ☺️ but if you want to use Italian, it is better: “pane alla banana”. When you add some flavours to something else, in Italian we use the preposition AL/ALLA in relation to the flavour, AL for masculine nouns and ALLA for feminines (ex. Chocolate milk = latte AL cioccolato) 😊
