I spent a lot of time in Mazatlan with my parents when I was a youth. I’m returning for an extended stay next year that will hopefully lead to a permanent move if all goes well. Your videos have been extremely helpful and very encouraging. I enjoy watching someone who has moved there to live a real life and is honest about their experience, versus someone who sees it only as an extended vacation. Thanks for sharing your story!
I forgot to mention the price of propane or gas. One of those big tanks on the patio costs 900 pesos to fill and it will last Lupita, even with all her baking, for about 6 months

Happy New Year Dwight, Lupita and family and of course wee kitties. You've got a great place at a great price and the location is fantastic. We love your private patio, very nice. Some people get freaked out about the suicide showers, but we find them to be very efficient, more so than hot water tanks. This is great info. for folk thinking of Mazatlán as a new home.
Looks perfect. It's what you do with it that matters. If you live on 1500 a month, and you rent for 250, you got a lot left over to do whatever you want!! I spend 250 a month on Insurance and taxes, without a mortgage in Florida. And all that other stuff on top of that. Electric, water, trash, sewer, internet runs about 425, and since I decided to work less and travel more, I got a roommate to move in watch my place when I am gone and she pays the utilities. I am coming to Mexico in a few months. Investigating different locations to visit.

Lupita's friend Josué is a contractor and he'd done renovations on the house. When the owner said they intended to rent it out, Josué, knew we'd been looking and he told us about it. That's the way a lot of good deals are found. Let people know you are looking.
That's right. Our home is an amazing adventure, Lupita speaks no English, my Spanish is shaky at best but we love each other. We shake our heads at each other from time to time. There are times when we both say WHAT? It's worked for 8 years

Thanks for showing us around su casa and explaining the costs. It's amazing how little it costs to put a roof over your head down there. We'll be back later this year and will be sure to stop by and say hi. BTW, and I don't know the locals that well, would it be wiser to not show us around your home in too much detail where some knucklehead opportunist could see what valuables you have.

I think the rent is very low, especially when you consider utilities are also very, very low. Of course, it is unfurnished, which for some people, might be a non-starter. But, if you have a good location, in a quiet, safe neighborhood, it is definitely a good deal. Good for you.

You Aussies amaze me. You guys get everywhere. We have at least three from Oz here. Two full time and the third does very long term visits like best part of a year at a time.
We always had suicide showers in Costa Rica many years ago. They work great….like a drip coffee maker. Ha $250 is the kind of deal we will look for in a couple years in San Cristobal de las Casas.
If you are not fear based, you will not ever have a issue UNLESS IT IS just something u think oh, this can happen...I have zero issue on this bc I understand frequency of energy. Most all folks show their apartments n homes on u tube and that's wonderful. I do like seeing bathrooms as I like tubs and mexico has mostly showers some places wikk have tubs. Then, I'd ask about water pressure for showers, toilets, etc...and cooking. Like, dies this neighborhood do the water delivery. When do they pick up trash. What's the lighting like. How do u take care of pet control...is the ocean water swim able all year. Is there string undertow current. Lots of questions . If you speak Spanish then handling your lease negotiations was easier than if, someone learning Spanish like myself znd having an interpreter may be helpful. Also driving your car into vs buying a car, or perhaps that's ok...then finding a insurance. Your home is modest snd that's pleasing to u. You are happy there, that us all that matters. Thank you for your kind transparent report. So many folks who r strapped or stressed from big rents eoukd value from your video and those who are showing varrying areas in mexico.❤️👏👏👏👏😉⚘️🙋♀️
Thanks. I don't have a car but most full time people i know that do have cars bought them here. You're right, most Mexican houses only have showers, no tub, and only stoves, no oven. My Spanish is far from fluent and Lupita read the lease answered my questions and OK'd it. The pick up trash here for free every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Water gets delivered by a private company. He goes by 6 days per week in a small pickup truck. It's 19 pesos, i think for a 19 litre bottle. The water is warm enough for Canadians year round, Mexicans don't go to the beach much in the Winter Pest control is a can of Raid. Pet Control there are many Vets in town. There can be a strong undertow on North Beach and Playa Bruja and even Olas Altas but Stone Island and Pinitos Beach are safe.

I could have a contractor I know paint it for I'm sure less than 400 peso if I buy the paint. Good Paint like Sherwin Williams concrete paint is available here. Costs about the same as in the USA maybe 65 or 70 USD per gallon

Lupita Says, if I was to buy the paint for this house, you've seen this house, not real big, not real small... I'm only guessing what that might take, 4 or 5 gallons maybe the guys would paint it, inside and out for 5000 pesos or 250 USD over and above the cost of the paint. I hope that answers your question. In short, i figure about 1/4 of what the same job would cost in most of Canada
Hi Dwight. I just discovered your channel and really enjoyed this video. We currently live in Querétaro (going on 3 years now) but are considering a move to Mazatlan. We are huge baseball fans and are looking into the neighborhoods near the baseball stadium. I really can’t find any info about that area at all. Do you know anything about it like names of the neighborhood, safety etc.? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for producing your channel.
I wouldn't call it a monsoon. We get rain, at times heavy, mostly at night. It's hot, humid. It took me years to get used to the heat. Now I'm cold when it drops below 25c

Dwight, lovely home! How did you transport the furniture you bought? We are scared to rent unfurnished because we don't know how will we move furniture that say we buy on mercado libre of FB marketplace...
Everything we bought. Fridge, Stove, TVs, Beds we had delivered. The Fridge and kitchen table and chairs and a small a/c until I bought used through a friend that deals in those sort of things and he delivers. The rest we bought new and it was delivered to the door.
Sorry, i can't help with that question. I never eat any seafood. I lived in Shediac, New Brunswick, "The Lobster Capital of the World" and i don't even like lobster 🦞 Enjoy Mazatlán!👍
It gets delivered to your house. Having said that, it's very unreliable. I've seen Christmas packages mailed from Nova Scotia in October arrive in February. If i have important mail i have it sent to a friend in New Brunswick who can scan it and email it to me. If you have to have something actually mailed like important keys etc. No substitute for the Courier Companies like FedEx, DHL, UPS. My brother mailed a good watch to me from Saint John, New Brunswick. No Rolex or anything but a good Seiko i had left behind with him. He insured it with Canada Post and it took about two months to get here. I was in no hurry for it so it worked out fine.
I'm sorry Micheal. I thought you were talking about my most recent video about hamburgers at the Siesta Hotel. Forget what I said about location. My house is in Centro on Ice Box Hill, the hill with all the transmitters on it. I found it through local knowledge. Through a guy that's a handyman. I recommend just walking an area you like and looking and looking and talking to locals. No agents etc.
La Siesta Hotel on Olas Altas, where the Shrimp Bucket is. Not in the Shrimp Bucket but right in the hotel front doors. If you Google map La Siestas Hotel Mazatlán I'm sure you'll find it.
