Joe you must be tough doing this vlog in a Summer T shirt and no coat. Or am i just old?. £4000/year running cost .,..aaagh. Hopefully next year( if you still own the car) should be less expensive.👍

Very realistic and accurate id say. We need more honest videos like this from owners on youtube. I do find it odd the people who say it's way lower average per year as if there trying to sell you on getting one. Mine has always come out on average about £4k a year to own from maintenance.
@RossWhite-u5s
@RossWhite-u5s 8 месяцев назад
This guy is diluded no way this car costs £4000 a year to maintain if you do it all yourself and you overhaul the whole car when you get it then there is nothing to go wrong just change the oil and and that’s it so it’s more like £300 a year. The reason this guy spends so much as he gets his ass raped by garages and they have his pants down secondly he hasn’t overhauled the whole car so expected wear items are going to happen with all the money he lost on that rebuild paying for labour he could of overhauled his whole car with control arms and a engine rebuild and mods.

4000 to me on a car like that. If you have good employment and you enjoy the car so be it. You're gonna spend the money anyway , so you know , it's like you're investing for the car to stabilize in the end

I had a 2007 987 Boxster S for 5 years and did all the services myself as I am also a mechanic engineer, got all logged and only took mine for wheel alignment on 4 corners as this has to be done with decent equipment. Done 4 oil, air and fuel filters, all 6 spark plugs (only once), new exhaust, all 4 corners brake disks and pads, rebuilt the soft top as was faulty when I've got it first time, was going to get the oil catch can done, but ended up selling it to get a cheaper daily and regret that decision every day. The Boxster was the only car I have ever had in 30 years that NEVER let me down. With the Motorbooks Workshop Manual you can do nearly all the work yourself or if you have the money to take to a local specialist even better. These old series are quite simple to work on. No other brand puts a big smile on your face every time you get in the car for a drive. What makes it expensive is the road tax and the parts, other than that is like an average early 2000's mid range cost anyway.

I think £4k is a lot, I’m averaging around £2k or less. My 1st year was high as we cherish them so much and want everything working perfectly but even then I did not go above £4k. But I guess it’s about perspective and what you can afford and want you like eg the exhaust. Anyway very informative and transparent vid

I have less time to drive mine about and it's a prat about car I bought for me and my son to go out and work on. I have a 55 plate manual with 70k on clock. It's 365 on tax. I don't want a new exhaust I enjoy it for what it is. Hope it costs me a bit less than 4300 a year touch wood but I'm willing to pay whatever if I need to. He loves it, I love it. Hard to find a prettier car and it handles like no other car I've been in... Keep up the vids my friend

road tax is ridiculous £770 a year for mine i think. my tesla model 3 performance costs £95 for recharging cost to drive the whole year and did 20,000 miles in 12 months. the only thing i spent was on windscreen washer fluid from ALDI :D love my 987 BS but it's running costs are mental in comparison to a lot, a lot quicker EV.

Just to clarify do not take this man’s word as gospel coolant hoses for the whole front is only £500 and it’s about 2hr job the subframe comes down with 10 bolts control arms must be cut off due to seized bolts so factor in replacing all control arms! Anyone who try’s to save there control arms on any Porsche should not own this car at 100k the control arms all need replacing regardless
@JoeTalksCars

More than £500 now and that’s just the front, there are a few at the rear too👍

Your points are not valid! In every video you seem to always mention and praise specialists. Can you tell us what specialists can do different to people like us doing it ourseleves? Let me point out many people on RU-vid but these cars neglected take the engine out and rebuild them and they are no way shape or form a specialist or ever owned a Porsche yet are able to fully rebuild the engine in their own to a much higher standard then a specialist. With all that money you are burning and wasting on labour you can put into upgrades I can mention 3 channels who rebuild their engines to higher levels then yours and not only done a engine rebuild but done many other mods to their Porsche for the cost of just your price for a engine rebuild. You highly praise specialists as if they are great and they are the only people that can do anything to these cars clearly you are diluded to think like that only people who give them praise are people who don’t know nothing about cars themseleves to which them sort of people shouldn’t even own a shopping trolley.
@JoeTalksCars
@JoeTalksCars 8 месяцев назад
I rebuilt my last car, I know my way around a spanner thanks. However life changes, commitments change and I have no time left. Much better and cost effective to send the car to somebody to fix, repair ect. You say people build them to a higher standard? Higher than what?
@RossWhite-u5s
@RossWhite-u5s 8 месяцев назад
@@JoeTalksCars well let’s face the facts you paid over £10k for a engine rebuild can I just say to rebuild that engine yourself would of cost around £6k with all the parts and new sleeves to which your garage used steel liners which are only £1600 to have all 6 done. With that extra money you could of done a new exhaust , upgraded all your control arms , upgraded to a IPD plenum , cold air intake system and still had money left. You paid £1200 for coolant hoses which again I might add are only £500 from design 911 and very simple to change. I would beg to differ if you knew your way around a spanner you wouldn’t be taking your car to a garage for every thing. And by saying that your making yourself look a fool you rebuilt what car exactly? Where is the proof of this sir? If you knew your way around a spanner you would be changing your own brakes and pads and also your own oil not to mention rebuilding this engine it’s one of the simplest engines out there to rebuild
@JoeTalksCars
@JoeTalksCars 8 месяцев назад
@@RossWhite-u5s I do t need to explain myself but you clearly don’t get the message. If you were running 2 businesses, a RU-vid channel and have a family would you be stripping your car down on the drive. No. No you wouldn’t. Those days are behind me, I take the car in, use my other cars and go pick it up done and clean. I share that on here as most do the same, don’t make out people do loads of diy on their Porsches. They don’t, some do but most don’t.
@RossWhite-u5s
@RossWhite-u5s 8 месяцев назад
@@JoeTalksCars you don’t run a RU-vid channel you post when you feel like judging by your videos so don’t use that as a excuse. Let’s face the facts you couldn’t rebuild one of these if you could you would. Stop making excuses as to why you couldn’t man you ain’t got one video on here doing (NOTHING) to no car I mean nothing. Yet you say you can turn a spanner 🤣 you seem to only do a video explaining how much a garage has had your pants down for labour charges. And sorry to tell you every guy who owns Porsches do everything on their own I watch enough channels to know this maybe you should too it may give you confidence to do it yourself.

@JoeTalksCars

How long would it take? Too long is the answer. Far too busy to do an oil change never mind anything else. Plus this is valved so needs wiring and vacuum lines

@RossWhite-u5s 8 месяцев назад
@@JoeTalksCars yeah and the wiring and vaccum lines are easy 😂 sir you said you know your way around with a spanner but can’t wire a electronic exhaust with vaccum lines clearly you don’t know your way around with a spanner. And doing the exhaust takes no more then 1hr you can do it on a driveway with a reciprocating saw cut through the corroded bolts knock them out and put the new exhaust on very easy when you know how.

@@RossWhite-u5s you have clearly way to much time on your hands writing paragraphs on here. However that’s fine, the RU-vid algorithm loves it. More ad revenue for me and more money to throw at the Porsche while I sit back and wait for the garage to call. 👍
