Dang, the algorithm knows where I live! This was super entertaining and I also totally rage about the 55 feeding directly into downtown, who thought that was a good idea? Props to you for living car free, I see most of OC's city design as a stifling hellscape and riding a bike next to cars going highway speed is fucking insane.
That was great. I lived in Costa Mesa car free almost 20 years ago. I worked in Irvine and used the back bay bike route every day it was a dream. Thanks for the weird vid.
The reason downtown Costa Mesa sucks now is because they added so many lanes to Newport Blvd. old Newport Blvd runs right along it to 17th, and shows what downtown used to look like, shops running along side a 2 lane street, not an 8 lane highway.
I recently moved to Costa Mesa to be close to my new job. I toured the apartment complex you used to live in, but ended up moving somewhere else instead. I bike to work and to the grocery store. Take the bus to the OC fairgrounds. I have a car, but probably use it on average like twice per week. There are still a lot of spots where the bike lane just randomly disappears, or half of it is in the gutter
I lived there for 2 years car free. Glad I didn't stay. I also saw my old workplace in part of the video haha, not sure if the actual place is still there or not. I was going to OCC at the time and it was an awesome school though. Some of the professors there really inspired me to take my career seriously.
You're braver than I am; I wouldn't get within a hundred yards of Triangle Square on a bicycle. It's scary enough in a car. The swap meet at the fairgrounds was one of my favorite places to hang out with my BFF once she moved there.
Im a newer and carfree Socal resident interested in biking around OC. I live in SD county, so it's intriguing getting a local perspective on cities like Costa Mesa. I just look at it quickly on google maps and blow it off since it doesnt look like much beyond stroads and a couple large parks, unlike Irvine and the beach towns.
It's hard to beat the Santa Ana River trail, super accessible directly from the Anaheim train station. Irvine's so good for biking I made a music video about it lol
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I finished law school in Costa Mesa in 2006, and haven't really been back since. I had more or less the same relationship with the Lab back then that you have now... maybe we're just not the target demographic? Thanks for this trip!
I live by DTLA, so I’m not too familiar with Orange County. You said no rail and I thought, “isn’t there a metrolink station?” and I was totally thinking Santa Ana 🤦🏼♂️
2:20 I love these apartments. I'm making a video about these types of units and their neighborhoods in San Jose! They really are the most affordable renting in California nowadays
