Come along with me on a same-day entry/exit border run to renew the stamp on my Costa Rica visa. If you have considered doing a Peñas Blancas Nicaragua crossing on foot or by bus, this video is for you! I will show which documents you need right now to cross and show you as much as I can of the process. Right now, in March of 2023, Nica is being very generous to allow same day crossings with immediate return to Costa Rica, and neither side is being particular about the paperwork as long as you have certain documents. It's a good time to be a perpetual tourist in Costa Rica!

Backstory:
Michel and Rhonda made a decision in 2020 to break from their "legacy brand" home countries (France and the U.S.) and settle in Central America. We chose Costa Rica because of its microclimates, environmental awareness, developing infrastructure, as well as its political stability and modern private healthcare system. It seemed like a good place to re-imagine our lives away from urban chaos and the stress of nine-to-five demands. So we bought a 14-meter transit bus and began converting it to a tiny home on wheels, which we live in full time in the mountains near the Miravalles Volcano. We make these videos and share them with the world in hopes that people will enjoy this beautiful land through our everyday experiences. Our animals are frequently in front of the lens; they are all rescues, some from the U.S., some from Morocco, and some from right here in Costa Rica. We love them all very much and they are part of our family.

GREAT JOB! LOVE LOVE LOVE the details!! FYI - when you paid the Exit Tax you had to give your passport number so it went into your Interpol system (the system CR & Nicaragua use). The $1 is a Municipal Tax - separate from the Migracion Fees so you must pay it (IN US$1s just as you enter the building on both sides)

Simply wonderful! I am building a house with a friend/colleague a bit south of Jaco, and any info like this is very valuable to me. Next year and onward I will start splitting my time between Costa Rica and my home in DC. I am enjoying all your videos! So glad to find you.

Thank you so much! I have neglected this channel recently because I’ve been so busy on the farm. Gotta get back to it soon. How are you guys enjoying Costa Rica? Are you living here now or is this just a long-term visit? :-)

@@rhondak_ManorMiravalles Yw, I am actually flying from Boston to Nicaragua (Aug/Sept) for a month long staycation and while we are in Nicaragua we plan to cross over to Costa Rica for a few days. This will be our 1st time out the U.S.A so videos like this helps a lot.

@@TruthSeekingAlways Oh my! First time out of the US and you go to Nicaragua! No one can say that you don’t have nerves of steel. L O L I can see Lake Nicaragua from the road that my farm is on, but as far as actually going there, the border control station is as far as I have dared. There is no doubt that I am biased, but I suspect you may like Costa Rica a bit better than Nicaragua. ;-)

@@rhondak_ManorMiravalles from what I have seen and read it seems relatively safe from violent crimes and gun violence (maybe I've been lied to) We are renting airbnbs and what I like about that is 1 I get to live like a local but 2 I get to read the reviews from other travels ECT and so far the places where we are staying have great reviews (I pray it stays that way) From what I've been told Nicaragua is the cheapest Costa Rica. But once again I was told that from a channel that is based out of Nicaragua. I'm coming down with my wife 2 small kids and my adult brother

@@TruthSeekingAlways You don’t hear about crimes against tourists in Nicaragua at the same rate that you hear about crimes against tourists in certain parts of Mexico. But the government of Nicaragua is just a bunch of thugs. I personally would not live in Nicaragua, even though it is much cheaper than Costa Rica. Costa Rica is one of the most expensive places to live in central America. But as homesteaders, Michel and I don’t spend nearly as much money to live here as most expats. It’s all about the lifestyle you choose here. There are people in Tamarindo who spend more per month to live there then I spend in six months to live here where I am.

Hi, now I feel more confident of doing the crossing and back, thank you! My trip is only for two weeks however, so I will still be within my original 90 days going out of CR to Ometepe and back. Will this matter in any way regarding the stamps? Also, do you know if that ATM machine is dispensing cordobas? I’ll need to find a place for this after crossing.
@rhondak_ManorMiravalles
@rhondak_ManorMiravalles 4 месяца назад
Hi, Alain. The exit stamp you get on your way to Ometepe will cancel your current Costa Rica tourist visa. But at your return, the stamp back into the country should reset it for at least another 90 days. Just show the CR border agent your plane ticket or evidence of onward travel, and your passport will most likely get stamped according to that. About the ATM machine... I have no idea if it dispenses cordobas. You won't use them at the actual border, so an ATM further inside Nicaragua is probably your best bet. I just did this crossing again on Saturday and it was as easy as ever. Happy travels!

Thank you so much! Did you park your car where you said the bus would drop you off?
@rhondak_ManorMiravalles
@rhondak_ManorMiravalles Год назад
No, I actually rode there with a Tico friend who didn't cross the border. He parked under a shade tree on the opposite side of the road (there's a dirt lot there) and stayed with the car. So technically he didn't "park," in the sense you mean. There's a house nearby that lets people park in their yard for a small fee, but I don't know anything about that so I figured it was best to not try to cover information I'm clueless about. 😅

Hi quick question, do youknow if anything has changed since this run? I have to go this weekend. Do i still need negative covid test and onward travel?
@rhondak_ManorMiravalles
@rhondak_ManorMiravalles 9 месяцев назад
Yes! :-) A couple of changes, both in our favor. First, no covid test needed! And second, you can ask for 180 days instead of 90 and might get it! Proof of onward travel is still needed, but if you use onwardticket, it's worth a gamble to get one 180 days out and see if they'll stamp you for that long. I got 180 this time!

I didn’t leave that part out at all. I even showed the negative PCR test that they were requiring at the time. However, they no longer require it and they do not require masks. I just got back from another border run a couple of weeks ago and there is no Covid factor to it at all anymore. At least for now.
