When marketing heat & eat meals to a mass audience, spices and the like are the 1st casualties because tastes vary broadly.

Smaller meatballs tend to be more flavorful IMO. More surface area.

I wish my Costco would get food like this...I see these videos and these items are never there when I go.

A basic marinara doesn't have a ton of spices. The tomatoes are the star of the show, and usually compliment something savory that has been spiced just right.

Maybe they are afraid to oversalt or spice the thing so thry leave it up to you to add that.

I would bet repurposing the same meatloaf mixture into the meatballs is exactly what they do.
