I enjoyed that! Great comments about the nature of coticules. It has been a long time since I went for just a coticule edge. Your video makes me want to do another one.
Greg I do it all the time. I am telling you, a dilucot is so therapeutic for me. I am not a guy who needs a 30k edge, probably why I love naturals so much. I like many natural hones, but the coti is the top of the list.
_I am not a guy who needs a 30k edge_ I can make an edge that is refined at 30K and above, however, my 940X microscope shows that that edge is so thin it degrades within the first 3 or 4 shaves. When this happens, the edge is still great, but you can tell the difference. That's fine for me because I can touch it up, but no way am I providing an edge that fragile for another shaver. A 10K or 12K edge, or a fine natural edge, gives you a terrific performer that has durability for 20 to 30 shaves. (At least in my experience.)
Lovely big coticule Eric! And a handsome razor , I find small early wedges often warped , so definitely 2 layers of tape ! I like your careful two handed strokes , on that big stone . I use single handed strokes only on small stones . You've got a brilliant feel 👏
I hone them with one layer, if it’s bad I go to 2 layer. If I need more than that, I bite the bullet and make geometry corrections. And I really hate to have to go that far. Most of my wedges I hone on narrow stones, that way it don’t matter if the geometry is off. This one is really evenly ground so I don’t mind working on my big coti. Thanks for watching and have a great time in Morocco with your lady friend. Safe travels.
@BigEShaves Hi Eric 👋 forgive my late reply, I'm chasing my own tail lately , clever to use more narrow stones on warped blades , geometry issues are a pain ! Thanks for your kind wishes for my upcoming travels 🙏.
Yes I have, it works well. But so does hand soap and glycerin, easier cleanup. But yes, I have enjoyed ballistol on a few of my coticiles. May have to do that on a future video.
You should know from my content I love variety. Not a man who is stuck in one way or one razor. A wedge hones differently, strops differently, and shaves differently. They plow thru whiskers. They are really easy to ruin. Most of them have geometry issues. But thats why I love them, the history and the primitive nature of them. If your thinking of trying a wedge, and your I think your going to method hone it and teach the razor something; save your time and money. Just don’t do it. If you want to learn how to hone to a razor, let it teach you something. Don’t mind taking your time on a hone, and open to having an incredible time, find you an old Sheffield and give it a go.
@@BigEShaves I used to have a wedge but I completely ruined it sadly. I want to get one and learn how to hone those bad boys, letting the razor speak to me. I think the primitive aspect is also what captivates me about them.
