I visit the mid-Cotswold town of Northleach, and set off on an easy 7.8km circular walk, taking in a village and a hamlet. Link to the route on the OS Map app: explore.osmaps.com/route/1485... #Northleach #Cotswolds #Walking
Another lovely video Paul. I have been thinking of doing that route and will definitely do it after seeing your video. The electric fence is not as bad as it seems. I have encountered a few. There is usually a hook and handle at one end to get through. Keep up your good work. 🙂
Thank you Grant! Glad you liked the video - the link to the route on OS Maps is in the description to help you complete the walk. Yes, that electric fence! It wasn't shown clearly in the video, but there are several issues with it. Firstly, the black handle was partially broken, meaning that there was a high risk of touching a live cable. Secondly, there was another wire running parallel, and on the ground, and partially obsucred by wet grass, causing a big trip hazard. Thirdly, there are no yellow 'electric' marker tags, which are now mandatory. Gloucestershire County Council have now responded to my email, after I sent them several photos and map of it highlighting the issue, and they have agreed that there is indeed an issue here. They have dispatched a footpath warden to have a friendly word with the landowner concerned. Thanks again for your lovely comment and watching my video, Take care, Paul.
Thank you Faith! Yes, I think that may be the last of the sun ☀️ for a little while! Cold and foggy here now. I did enjoy this walk. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul 🙂👍
Hi Paul, you be careful on those country roads buddy. I agree, you chose a lovely day for this walk, blue skies and bright greens. Great little visit to that beautiful church, that’s always a favourite of mine when you visit them in your videos. Wonderful new video
Thank you Stephen! Yes, that white van man had an argument with the workmen who had closed the road because they were trimming trees and clearing ditches! I didn't film or mention it in the video. He then sped as equally as madly in the opposite direction the way he had come. He must have moved the cones blocking the road to have driven down the road in the first place! Some people are so strange. Yes, the country lanes can be dangerous because they are so narrow and have no pavements. Unfortunately, The Monarch's Way does go along the road for the first part of the road. It was such a pleasure to be out in the sun after all the rainy days. Hope you are both keeping well. Take care, Paul.
Thank you for a delightful walk and some marvellous views of Northleach and its surroundings. Farmington and its church look absolutely splendid. I did a somewhat shorter - and rather less scenic circular route - to Hampnett years ago. Northleach is a Cotswold gem, and well worth the hazards of rural bus travel, to visit and wander around.
Thank you Malcolm! Glad you enjoyed the video and the walk. Yes, Northleach is such a lovely town. I know all about rural bus hazards too - although I drove the short distance from home on this occasion, I have been using rural busses on my Severn Way video series. Thanks so much for watching and commenting, take care, Paul 🙂👍
Thank you so much Chris! Glad that you are enjoying them. There is so much to see in the Cotswolds. Another one in this series soon, hopefully, weather permitting! Take care, Paul.
Thank you very much Dave! I do enjoy making these videos, but I don't earn anything from it at all, because my RU-vid channel isn't monetised. Unfortunately, I can't stop YT still putting ads over my videos though - they make money from my efforts! Yes, it isn't very far from where I live in Gloucestershire. I will keep doing them for as long as I am able. RU-vid is the only 'job' that I haven't hated, or walked out of. There are plenty more areas in the Cotswolds that I cover - it is such a big area. Thanks again, take care, Paul.
Thank you - Northleach is just a short hop for me from home, because I live in the Cotswolds. Some parts of it are overblown on YT and Instagram, like Bibury and Castle Coombe, which I won't cover on my channel, but there are many places that are unspoilt and very quiet. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul
Thank you Grant! I am really glad that you enjoyed this walk. Good to hear that it was less muddy now. There will be another 'Cotswold Walks' video in a few weeks time. Cheers, Paul.
Good morning Paul, That was a lovely walk, thank you!! It really shows off the English countryside at its best, I know from my time in Hampshire that there are lots of similar routes, here though you have the bueatiful cotswold stone to distinguish it from other places. Great to be able to follow the route on the OS maps. The colour, lighting and music were excellent throughout perhaps the best being at the pond, but I liked the woodland parts very much. Just at the end of Autumn is the perfect time to go by the looks of things. I'm glad that the church was open, even if you arent religious they are always peaceful places to visit and you will often find lots of history on the memorials. The walk through the graveyard reminded me of a book that my Great Uncle Phil published, its a collection of epitaphs from around the world, some funny, some poignant and some sad, I was looking for a copy for some time and eventually was able to obtain a copy from a bookshop, in Coventry I think, Uncle Phils bookshop it was called!!! Good luck from Spain!!
Thank you David. Yes, it is lovely to get days like these after days and days of rain. Glad you enjoyed the walk. Thank you for a lovely comment. I really did enjoy this walk. Take care, Paul 🙂👍
Hi Paul! I enjoyed seeing the Cotswold area and you had a beautiful day for it. The Hercules was pretty cool - they are always so impressive. Loved seeing the inside of that church and the graveyard. So beautiful. There definitely was a lot of rain!
Thank you Donna! Glad you enjoyed it - yes great to see a bit of sun this time of the year, especially after all that rain that we have had here recently. Yes, it was a lovely place, and I had it all to myself when I was filming there - which is a bonus! Thanks again, take care, Paul.
Thank you so much. Yes, you get a good view over this pretty town as you finish the walk near the end of it. Glad you enjoyed the walk. Take care, Paul.
Another very enjoyable video, Paul. I went to Westwoods Grammar School, at the eastern end of Northleach. Sadly it burned down years ago, and was replaced with a housing estate. They did remember it’s two famous headmasters in the street names, though. Bassett Road and Fellows Road. Thanks for sharing, Mate🙂👍
Thank you so much Ron! Glad you enjoyed it. That's a great memory about the Grammar School. I didn't have time to do the Gaol or museum before the walk, due to the shortness of daylight. That is fab that two of the headmasters have been remembered in the street names for perpetuity. Thanks again, take care, Paul.
Thank you Cathy! Yes, that road noise from the A40 was a bit intrustive - not a good location for a natural sounds video! As you say, the later part of the walk was much quieter. Glad you enjoyed it. Take care, Paul.
Paul this was a lovely walk indeed. A great way to start my day with a coffee before work. Such a beautiful area. Great visuals as always. Really liked the church. Top job mate. 👍🏻🚶🏻♂️🚶♀️
Another delightful video Paul. Very relaxing to watch after a day at work. You had perfect weather for it! Loved seeing the church inside and out. That electric fence thing by the gate! 😮
@@SouthWestSundays Hi Louise, thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video! 🙂I was very lucky with the weather. Yes, that electric fence! Not only was the black handle that your're supposed to lift the electric wire up with broken, there was another electric wire lying on the ground - and the ground/grass was full of water! 🔌😲Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care, Paul.
I remembered Follyfoot too. Something about a lightning tree. 🙂 The map addition is very useful, Paul. I couldn’t get to show in the mobile OS app though, until I favourited it on the website then it shows up in my favourites list in my mobile OS app. All good.
Yes! Well remembered. Part of the film director in me remembers its stellar directing line up on Follyfoot - Jack Cardiff, Stephen Frears, Michael Apted and David Hemmings all sat in turn in the black chair directing it! Amazing for a children's TV series. I think Jack Cardiff's work still has much influence on me, but I fall well short of his standards! Jack was cinematographer on both Black Narcissus, and The Red Shoes, and his work did much to shape the final look and succes of those films. It was made by Yorkshire TV, up in Leeds - and a Germany TV company too. Sorry, I digress! Yes, glad the OS map app and link all works - too me a while to sus it out, but, hopefully, I'll now do that for all in my walking series for both the Cotswolds and Severn Way and any future series too. Thanks again, take care, Paul.
Hello Paul - greetings from Poland That was a wonderful walk. "All things bright and beautiful" springs to mind. Gorgeous weather for November - bright blue skies and very green fields. Lots to see as we travelled along, made even more interesting by your superb commentary and brilliant camera work. Oh yes - having watched the clip twice. that electric fence has a grab handle on it which is insulated. You can unhook it, pass by and hook it back up again. I'm guessing some idiots kept leaving the gate open! No need to write to the Council after all. A wonderful video. Thanks so much for producing it. See you again soon. Stay safe please.
Thank you Michael. I can only apologise once again for YT removing your comment previously, and the comments of many of others on this video. That's a lovely comment too - I thoroughly enjoyed my walk. Yes, 'All Things Bright & Beautiful' indeed! I particularly enjoyed that valley before I got to Farmington. I have heard back now from Gloucestershire County Counci's Countryside Services Dept. via email - they aren't happy about this particular electric fence set up, not least because it is not 'yellow tagged', and my photos that I sent to them shows that black handle is split on the opposite side. Also, the wire should not be running underneath (partially obscured by the wet grass and water), causing a tripping hazard, particularly to partially sighted walkers. They have assuered me that they will speak with the landowner, and that a local parish council will monitor the situation. Yes, I have come across black handled lift up style electric wires many times before on my wanderings, but never one as dangerous as this before. Sorry I did not make the issues with it as clear as I should have done in the video - but my photos that I sent to GCC make it very clear. Weather permitting, I hope to do another Cotswold Walks video again soon. Thanks once again for watching my videos and commenting on them. Hope you and your family have a brilliant weekend. Take care, Paul.
Morning Paul - before I copied and pasted my comment on this video, I checked if the original was still there and it was! So you have my comment twice!
@@michaelpilling9659 Hi Michael - it is really strange but on my RU-vid account I can still only see the second comment that you made, not the first. I checked with someone else and they can only see the second comment too - bizarre! I have informed RU-vid so they can sort this out. Thanks again, Paul 🙂👍
Yes, I wasn't 100% sure. Thanks for the clarification. Although I was in the Royal Air Force for 10 years, I am useless at identifying airplanes, but not bad at reparing radar equipment. Cheers Tony, take care, Paul.
