For those of us who are octogenarians, perhaps not able to financially contribute to these disaster areas or volunteer our physical assistance, may I suggest that we look around us in our own little worlds and reach out with kindness and generosity to someone in need. And not just once, but let's do it several times. Creativity does not have to be expensive. Homemade cookies to someone who lives alone. A backpack to a school program in need. Pick wild flowers and deliver them to someone who is fighting cancer. Just look around you and you will find where you are needed. Then dedicate those actions to the disasters in Hawaii, Canada and wherever people are hurting. And I say to myself, what a wonderful word.

I actually think you should move your shed elsewhere and put the Japanese Maple in its place to arch over your window from the left and the gateway. I’m afraid you’ll block your view of this pretty garden from the inside if it’s planted in front of the window, and especially if you are thinking of adding an awning over the door. 🌿🌿🌿🌿😀

I think a arched gate would look lovely at the fence where there's a gate on the left looking at the back of your cottage. It would continue with the privacy of the fence.

Linda and Stuart, I went away to work in a clinic in the Canadian Artic this early Spring and summer. No internet or wifi. I could use data on my cell phone to watch you guys here and there. I usually watch you on my livingroom TV at home. My husband back at home in Nova Scotia filmed a Linda and Stuart inspired little walk about video for me in my garden to show me all that was in bloom naming all the things that he could lol. He is not a gardener but tried his best to update me and he took care of watering while I was away. It was so sweet! It was the best! ❣

I think your shed would look good painted the same color as your fence. Also, if you had carpet squares under your raised beds and your wood storage, you wouldn’t have weeds there or have them settle into the dirt.

I like these chairs much better than the black ones for the front. More cohesive. But would also like to see the big chairs move somewhere else in the front so you just have the four on the patio.

I like the idea of the matching throw rug on the A/C side of the back wall. I think that bookend will look nice. Especially useful for the grill, etc. I love the brick rug and the good use of space in the back garden. Very nice. I love the chairs. I do think they look better because they disappear and let the garden shine.

Is it just me? The cut bricks that adorn the steps are like jewelry to me, like small diamonds around the crown. This and the alternating lines in the brick rug will be inspiration I'll draw from when designing my garden. Thank you Linda.

I like the new chairs. And I like them with the old teak chairs. It reminds me of what one often sees in British gardens - combinations of new/old benches or chairs that blend. You often talk about British gardens being part of your inspiration.

September food choice for me is butternut squash with other autumnal roasted vegetables. Even a focaccia bread embedded with assorted floral designed vegetables. The children chatter is music to my ears, too

Steps are going to look fabulous when they are finished. The boxwood ball you want to put near the gas meter, could be on a set of wheels if you leave enough wiggle room to roll the pot away for meter readings. The wheels are small round platforms with fairly large wheels of the type used for transporting pots around the garden and are quite robust. Yes to the wooden chairs at the front of the house.

Wood does not do well in the rain, You can get a few years of use out of them before warping. Perhaps they are coated to be rainproof. The chairs match the house. 😊

May I suggest that you put the wicker chairs around the future fire pit and the black matching chairs all around the eating table. I think the wicker chairs with cushions and throw pillows seem more like a seating area.

I think I’m going to attempt to put my Brown Turkey Fig in the ground. It’s well over 7 ft tall in a pot and just to big to drag in for the winter. Zone 6b so crossing fingers.

My grandfather had a fig tree it lived for years zone 6 he would cover it up with mulch or dirt and bury it Was to much work for me but he loved telling everyone about it how it survived winter

An answer of the day: the new chairs are better- more streamlined and don’t visually compete with the patio stones. I liked the other coffee table tho. I still crave more brighter colors in the paint, cushions and umbrella; a more cheerful look. But I appreciate your taste.

Honeycrisp apples say September to me. The back steps are a work of art and a complimentary throw rug on the other side would tie it all together. My indigo frost agapanthus have been blooming nonstop since April. Hope they make it through the winter. The apricot zinnias are a beautiful color. This year I planted orange and blush from the Queen Lime series and am obessesed with their soft, subtle colors. Love the new chairs.

30:25 THE September Vegetable of New Mexico is Green Chile. The aroma of roasting green chile is everywhere. And yes we spell it with an “e”. We have so many recipes using freshly roasted chile. I recommend chile rellenos 😎

I can't get over how your front garden is looking so well established already... it is so beautiful! The new chairs look fab and complement the older ones and the house. You asked for a suggestion for a fall addition to the area near the patio.. why not plant a miniature apple tree? wouldn't it be fun to pick your own apples for fall baking?

Linda, I do like the chairs. They do compliment and coordinate the coloring on the house and window boxes. The black chairs were nice but look much better in the back yard. You are a very talented lady and have a decorators eye. I would love to have that vision for landscaping that pulls all the beauty together.

Someone else suggested moving the shed and I agree, your eye just stops there and it would flow better with a maples, flanking the big table. I love the patio area and the steps look great.

September food is warm and cozy fall colours, smells and tastes. Apple cider, root vegetables (especially beets with their deep colour), squash, all all the pumpkin spice flavours and smells. Can’t wait for you to share the details of your social patio gathering!

❤ I feel for you on that tuckpointing attempt on the garage. I don't blame you for wanting to hide that. My hubby who is a brick mason/brick layer saw that and his eyes got big because he was shocked that the pointing was so poorly done. I love the steps! I DO like the chairs in front. A good match!

Hi, Linda! Everything looks lovely.The "retangle shaped" glass table is the only thing that doesn't flow right to me. You need a round table or you need to turn the glass table longways on the egg shaped patio..What do you think? You have such a good sense of flow..
