Cottage pie, or Shepherds pie is a British dish made from chopped, sliced or minced meat covered with a mashed potato topping. It is very popular in the UK and even abroad.
Cottage pie is now normally made with beef, but traditionally it could contain any type of meat, usually left overs from roasts. Shepherds pie came later, but is exactly the same, just usually using lamb or mutton.
You will need
Beef mince or cooked beef
Carrot
Onion
Cornflour (cornstarch)
A good stock cube or fresh stock
Potatoes
Butter
Garlic if required
English mustard
Salt and pepper
