COTTO is such an amazing and skillful fighter. He is so patient and control he didn't allow Mayorga to take him out of his game plan. My respect to Mayorga for providing us with amusement and enjoyment in all his fight.
You know as well as me and Mayorga that he got hit with a good punch 🥊 and he knew then that he was done for good. So Ricardo decided to put a heck of an excuse about breaking his hand. Mayorga claimed that he broke his thumb. I saw moving the thumb with ease. This was a good entertaining fight but I thought the fight was more close that what the judges had it. I saw it 107-106 after 11 rounds Cotto. What a clown 🤡 Ricardo Mayorga turned out to be.
Mayorga will never be a shot fighter. He had a long layoff from boxing. He will be in every fight until the end because he has a steel chin and he punches very hard. If Mayorga would have ever taken boxing seriously he would be world class because he had the chin, power and HEART to beat any fighter. I respect Mayorga and if I ever had a war to go to I would draft Mayorga because he will give it his all.
Mayorga pretending his hand was the problem when he was obviously rocked by Cotto's shots there at the end. He just didn't want to admit Cotto legitimately hurt him.
Mayorga fucks him up in his prime. People talk shit but forget mayorga fought elite fighters of his day. Quickly too. Signing the contract real fast. So even if talked garbage but he had balls. Picked up two belts too.
I've heard it said that Mayorga had two choices. Either lead a gang or become a boxer. He chose the right path even if he didn't live up to his potential. Hes a born warrior.
Cotto looks really sharp here, he looks trim and in good condition. He stayed behind his jab the whole night and landed crisp left hooks. Kept his cool with the hot headed mayorga with all of his antics, IDK why he got rid of emanual steward
I have tons of respect for mayorga he has tons of heart and never ducked anybody not very skilled but I really like this dude very carasmatic and funny as hell
+Luis Guzman Exactly, and I dont think if he wouldnt have insulted De La Hoya, Oscar would have beaten him that easily....It became too personal, and it was worse for Mayorga, Oscar was like berserker for disrespect Mayorga showed him and Tkod Mayorga ultimately... pity... could have been better fight between them
Two gentlemen of the ring, Cotto aged 32 and Mayorga aged 38, fought for twelve rounds before the referee stopped the fight to save poor, cranky Mayorga's face from further damage. Cotto's left never missed Mayorga's face who completely out-boxed - and most of his wild flurries failed to land.
Even with the loss to Trout, Cotto has NOTHING to prove. He's fought the best, beat some of the best, and has Puerto Rico in his pocket since day 1. Love this guy's class and work ethic. Very proud of him.
Thanks for the vid. It is a shame that these commentators including Tarver do not know what happened to Mayorga. HE got caught with a vicious left hook and got his hand/arm temporarily paralyzed.
"ayyy...mi mano...ayyy", y no tenia nada, solo era una excusa, ES UNA VERGUENZA MAYORGA, se rindio, salio corriendo, no quiso seguir peleando como hombre. UN PAPELON
The taming of the wild man by knockout. This was a true exhibition of a boxer in control of the entire fight never giving up any ground . Miguel Cotto is the pure boxer .The taming and retirement of the wild man Recardo......
We are number 1.... because we are so small. There's no comparison to Mexico or America. We are number one for boxing. We have the statistics to prove if you estimate each person per champion no country compares we are like the Spartans. With only 300 men almost beat the world's rulers.
Richard Garcia that is correct. PR produces the best boxers via population wise. However, is PR a free country? i dont know. IF not, then the title goes to mexico? (speaking population ratio-wise)
Population-ratio-wise goes to Puerto Rico aswell. What's does that matter? Puerto Rico prides it's self as quality over quanity. We have the skills smarts and statistics to prove it. Doesn't if it's a free country one bit do you care to elaborate? danilo osiris
danilo osiris and even with America behind us, we still have pure breed puerto Ricans as champions from puerto rico. Not American puerto rican like an Oscar Dela Hoya .
Agree 100% , Mayorga knew what was coming and rather face an embarrassing KO he took the cheap way out. What a joke! He didn’t fool anybody with his act. After such a great fight he had to go and make it a joke.
Cotto is know joke,He will bust you up,over time. His body shots will just take the energy out of you slowly, and your just left to His mercy.Cotto,is a great fighter to me,I know there is better, but He is my favorite.
Under Emmanuel Steward, Cotto regained three things: his confidence, his jab, and his footwork. If he had fought Pacquiao intelligently, as he did here, instead of just planting himself in front of Manny and eating shots all night, he could have at least finished that fight.
lol that was an exciting 1st round from the two mayorga got him good good moments from the two. i would have loved to see a prime mayorga in this one though
Cotto is one of the best boxers technically of the last ten years, after De La Hoya,it's him who created more problems to Mayweather. But if he had fought in the golden 90's,to compete with De La Hoya,Norris,Chavez,Quartey,Vargas orTrinidad,he would miss something important:a great chin.
Haha I'm from P.R and really enjoy Mayorga's silly antics leading up to his fights. Smoking while training, his one liners like "Cotto's only known in P.R, I'll whip him at no charge at his own house", kinda like Ali but without the mustard on fightnights which only adds to the comedy.
Man, the boddy punches of Mayorga while he wasnt tired were enough to put down any of us.. straight fact. Sure we knew he would lost this fight at his 38, but damn, hes a fighter or what? I guess this is what makes Ricardo an excited fighter - he puts everything he has on every punch
Mayorga's balance is gone, that's what happens with age. He's a tough guy, no doubt, and I respect him. He knocked out a terrific fighter in Vernon Forrest, which is his signature win, and beat him again in the rematch and by those two performances, he will always be considered world class. But he's fighting for money now and I don't blame him one bit. He's always been entertaining and gives the fans a fight.
cotto is so calm is personality is like zoloft...its crazy how he never gets phased or angry, hell talk some shit get his shots in but hell never be the guy ull see a crazy press conference with, hes one of the few good rolemodels out there...and the love he gets from puerto rico, its doesnt matter if he wins or loses, they love him, idk if hes got the love trinidad does someone puerto rican would have to answer that but even i like him, hes trainer cuban so hes got cubans behind him to
Cotto did not feel hatred towards Mayorga, he was just annoyed by the smack being talked prior to it; now, with Margarito it was a totally different story: that was pure bad blood, pure hatred.
it doesnt matter whether fighters throw punches from everywhere or doing stupid life risking thing in the ring because you know that boxing is at its best when see some one fighting for their lives without minding the outcome and just going for the kill. i gave these tough guys credit for their hearts and hardwork and mayorga for his craziness.
They replayed the end a few times so we could see no damage to his hand by hitting. When i saw the replays of that, it made we wonder; Cotto got a big left hook and you could see Mayorga's neck twist. Maybe the nerve for the harm in mayorga's neck got twisted too. Good call to retire after hard fights in his career. You don't want to be paraplegic from a neck injury !
Margarito said he had no power, that was at welterweight. Mayorga says he has power, this is junior-middleweight. Cotto wins the re-match with A.M. by knockout if he comes forward to brawl.
