Batman once said about the joker’s identity “I knew who he was Alfred, from the day we met, he has a kid and wife still living, but his backstory doesn’t matter the man he is now is completely different from what he was”

The recent Gordon comic reminded me that Joker isn't just some crazy dude. He's ingenious and meticulous. All the insane things he does has a purpose, but the only person who truely knows that purpose is Joker.

The difference between this and the Batman-Kira case is that the Joker isn't really doing anything to prevent L from figuring out his real identity. This is less of a "L vs Joker" and more L being curious about something. Learning his identity isn't really all that relevant to stopping him from doing crimes. Imagine L going "I finally know who Joker is", and then the Joker blows up a hospital anyway.

L finding out Joker's identity means absolutely nothing. He would hear it announced and then do what Aaron Sanchez said and just blow up a hospital to prove it means nothing. That would be such a Joker thing to do. He'd also say something like "figuring out the punchline means nothing when you don't have *delivery*" before he blows up the maternal ward of a hospital.

I think a more interesting question to answer in the future could be, “Could L Catch Batman?” And have the game be around L trying to solve Batman’s true identity, something I think he’d probably take interest in

I think Joker would WANT L to catch him, but I also believe Joker would get bored with him quick (unlike Batman) and just straight up kill him off.

Joker’s not exactly covering his tracks but he would probably want L to find him only to kidnap and torture him. EDIT: yikes looks like I started a war with the L fans lol

I assumed L’s win condition is more prove the Joker is guilty in the judicial system, not so much revealing his identity. He needed Light’s identity to prove he was a serial killer not strictly for the name. Same thing with BB, he wanted to prove BB’s guilt and arrest him, not specifically getting his name.

I'd believe that L could discover Joker's identity if, as mentioned in canon, Bruce knew such only a week after he appeared the first time, which basically confirms that the Joker's backstory is The Killing Joke, as Bruce is seen observing his wife and child who were removed from Joker's old apartment by police for safety reasons.

The fact is, even in the Killing Joke, Joker himself admits that his backstory might not be true. He likes it to be different every time. Some parts of it might be true but some are mixed up. The fact that after all these years even the readers don't know what his actual backstory is, it's kinda terrifying.

Capturing The Joker is not the problem. On the other hand, outsmarting The Joker is the real issue. Genius Intellect Vs. Super Insanity

This is what makes L so much fun. He's a really well done trope character so he transitions well.

So L practically has a chance on beating the joker if he finds out his original identity and arrest him before he becomes insane but if he fails the game is already over and joker would instantly win. That’s cool.😺

No. The Joker's greatest asset isn't his intelligence, it's his judge of character. He sees right through every single person immediately. Makes him so much more dangerous. Keep in mind - L's greatest strength is his powers of deduction. You can't deduce much from the Joker - he's truly bananas.

Catch Joker? Yes maybe but, stopping him is a completely different debate especially considering Batman has stated the only person who knows what Joker is doing is the Joker and what makes him dangerous is just how unpredictable he is especially considering just how insane he is. He also famously says he’s a man without a plan but he is constantly “planning” sometimes ahead of Batman due to his unpredictability, he’s insane but smart and knows what he’s doing , only he knows. L is smart but due to Jokers sheer insanity I’d say he’d get caught but break out whenever he wants or just bully L his whole career.

The only advantage L has up on Batman is that if L gets a hold of Joker he would have no qualms about killing him. If he deduced that Joker is too big a threat to keep alive, which I’m sure L would figure out, he’d have him killed immediately.

Imagine how dangerous L would be if he was trained by Batman instead lol

L is skilled at analyzing calculated strategy, whereas the Joker is pure unpredictable chaos. When someone’s moves aren’t traceable, they become almost impossible to beat.

I like the idea a young Batman attempts to stop the red hood but is killed and the reveal of Billionaire Bruce Wayne being a vigilante and being killed by another costumed foe / gang Interests L enough to become involved but he’s too late to stop Red hood before becoming the Joker. Great vid!

I'd think the most realistic outcome from this scenario is L being manipulated into ingesting Joker toxin and thus creating The L Who Laughs; cackling from a chair in a fetal position while nomming on dessert.

The Jokers' strength is his unpredictability. Which is interesting since L seems to revel in asymmetrical warfare. The main issue is that the L has morals and the Joker doesn't, which will make life difficult for L.

If Light does exists in the DC Universe, then The Riddler has finally found a worthy opponent, since both of them are narcissistic geniuses who is obsessed with finding out their identities through names.

Making the victory condition arresting the joker, is weighing this heavily in lights favor. The joker regularly escapes from the police and allows himself to be caught very consistently.

Batman actually does know Joker’s identity. He speaks to Alfred in one comic that he knew who the Joker was a week after meeting him and the only reason he doesn’t reveal it is because he is keeping Joker’s family(his wife and son who both lived), in hiding so neither the Joker or others would be able to find them.

Can you imagine if the Death Note still worked if the pages were laminated. Light could have used an erasable sharpie and have an unlimited use Death Note 📝

L can figure out jokers plan and maybe even how to stop him but actually having the capability to do it is something else entirely

This fight is more of a "why bother" scenario. Either give L the ability to go back in time to when Joker was less mysterious and catch him in the act of a crime, or face the force of inevitable entropy. The last video was much more of a strategy video while this is more of a thought experiment of combining two very different characters.

I love the "theory" that The Joker is aware of the 4th wall... in that he's pretty much the ONLY being in the DC universe that's aware of it... for example: the lasurus pit always turns the user insane, as if all of their mental processes have left them... but when Joker uses it... he becomes a normal person... I find it interesting that it all depends on when "L" is interested in the Joker's case. Although I think Joker could find "L"'s location, since he knows about the league of assassins and the court of owls, ancient secret societies that even batman has had trouble proving their existence or he might find it because he is traveling and haunting random cities, since he doesn't have a batman that has him in one place. Speaking of the court of owls, do you think "L" could find each of its members?

The “there are three” jokers revelation was such an unexpected twist on Joker’s lore. Batman misses nothing, and yet he missed that for all these years he’s been fighting 3 different dudes all pretending to be the same guy? God damn… Though if we’re being honest, Batman should’ve picked up on it. Just comparing full body X-rays of Joker from different time periods would show different breaks and different healing stages, pointing to different people all playing Joker

It really depends on when does the hypothetical duel takes place. Because if it’s in the modern digital age L has the advantage a lot harder to get rid of foot prints, and a massive amount of different identification’s exist nowadays. Unlike the previous era that Batman originally took place in. Which was when it was much easier to get rid of/falsify the proverbial foot prints needed to exist in the first world society.

Bruh they be making every dc character a literal god capable of thinking at the speed of light in less of a trillionth of a second. Joker literally became a god of chaos just by being dumped into some chemicals.

The difference between Batman or Super man and L is that their interests are divided. L, if he took the case to solve, would easily solve the identity. And not just for singleness of purpose. Joker is not as hard to figure out as they make it seem, but his one asset unpredictability would have no effect on L or his plan because he would never have the need to reveal himself. Even if he never knew the name Red hood or was never intimately briefed or aquatinted with the case to begin with, he could still pin point the identity without any risk or exposure. Like you said Jokers always getting caught and it’s clear where he lived because that’s where his reign of terror is. A simple hair sample could lead him to the chemicals that would transform jokers hair and skin into what he is. It’s child’s play from their visual check on how old he is from Arkham security cameras and interviews would reveal a rough time frame for a missing person report or missing people in general. Either way it’s still game over because you got Gotham as an origin chemical plants employees as guide for who to look for and a rough age of the person this is not even mentioning a tragic story of a woman dying and police visiting a husband. You got the trigger for insanity in a police report a rough time frame for a chemical plant that closes down and a possible police report on a criminal falling into a vat of chemicals, and former employee of the chemical plant from w2 forms with mere access to government info he could deduce this guys more than likely identity DNA test could confirm it through living relatives or a baby autopsy of unborn child if any. Come on that’s not a hard case to crack. Nevertheless, I don’t think Joker would be of any interest to L their is no mystery, an identity? If that was all, then it accomplished nothing because everybody knows he’s guilty of the crimes he commits. discovering the identity might be to satisfy curiosity, but if he wanted joker dead it should be easy for anybody to kill him. He’s in jail most of the time intellect is not gonna save Him throw some hungry lions and tigers at him while he’s locked up ain’t nothing.

I don't think it's a matter of L being able to catch Joker... I think it's more a matter of how many times L can catch Joker before he just gives up since he will most likely send him to prison or an asylum similar to Arkham multiple times and just like the comics Joker will break out again and again to cause more and more mayhem.
