Chase a bag. Looking back on this, I think I did a perfectly fine job on the topic. However I would've liked to bring up more extra content in the BB Novel and some more from LCTW. Like, "L at 8 years old did something even most detectives on the planet couldn't," or "L is the equivalent of numerous bureaus put together" I didn't bring those up here, but I DID already bring them up in Batman VS Kira, which I put in the description.

I think the reason why Near wasn't as invested in catching A-Kira is simply because Minoru never killed anyone. That means that Minoru isn't a criminal and Near doesn't have any legal reason to pursue him. Unless of course the entire world made a law making it illegal to own a Death Note, which for some reason isn't a thing in this fictional world yet.

There's no denying that Minoru is smarter than any normal person, but nowhere near as smart as Light. If Minoru lived as a long as Light he might of been smarter, or at least as smart as him, but we'll never know.

One thing that stood out was: if you don't use the death note, or do not follow it's rules, the Shinigami King will add new rules in, to screw you over.

I think Light was more of a smart man that learns from his mistakes and Minoru was a wise man who learns from the mistakes of others

Light is tactic, he made move and adapt along with his enemies strategy and tactic. Minoru is strategy, he made move before the war even started and has decided the outcome of the war.

Light is definitely smarter, Minoru seems more pragmatic. Technically he won the shinigami king just got salty about the situation and changed the rules.

I think Minoru's words at the beginning of the story reveal that he's actually quite smart. Truly smart individuals use their intellect to solve problems of the future, as in societal problems. Light solved some problems, but he also created quite a few as well. Minoru was able to create an economic boon for Japan. Also, just a hunch, but his seeming apathy towards the bidding process made me feel like he knew how things were going to shakedown. The fact that he obviously didn't want anyone to die makes me further believe that he knew whoever won wouldn't be able to use the Death Note in any case. Maybe Ryuk was entirely upfront with his recalling of Light's story, including the machinations and underhandedness of Shinigami. Maybe this tipped Minoru off that there was a possibility for a bad end.

Light’s plan was far more complex and ambitious in design, and he had to do a lot more thinking on his feet than Minoru.

It think this argument is like comparing apples to oranges. Light and Minoru are both geniuses. But how they used the death note imply their rules of engagement. Light openly draws out a conflict due to his hubris and gives the opposition an opportunity to counteract him hence the story we know and love. Minoru analyses the world and how it operates to come up with a way to Accomplish his goal as fast as possible. Giving his opposition no time to counter him.

Minoru seems to be extremely smart, he thinks through his situation and the dynamics and comes up with an almost foolproof plan that just gets thrown out the window because of a literal act of god. But it's hard to compare Light and Minoru because Light makes it his goal to show us, the world, how smart he is, he's like a boxer climbing the ranks by fighting the strongest (smartest) he can find, while Minoru is focused on having his plan come to fruition. Their goals are completely different as well, Kira is trying to create an old testament world where evil is always punished but Minoru doesn't try anything that complex.

Minoru is not as smart as Light. Light is able to put several steps ahead to further his goal, to build his utopia, is willing to defend it against any threat, and has no hesitation to execute his plan. Light also able to adjust his plan to any given situation, making him much more dangerous than Minoru. Minoru, on the other hand, takes 2 whole years to build this plan. Yes, Minoru's plan managed to outwit even Near, but that's because it doesn't involve using the Death Note to its full potential. But Minoru's move is not to be underestimated. With just one single move, selling the Death Note world wide, and sharing the benefit to the Japanese citizens equally, he managed to accomplish 2 goals: 1. Ressurect Kira's existence once more 2. Re-ignite the idea that Kira is God, and regain the full support from the public And he's done those without Near being able to even probe him, let alone investigate him. That simple gesture really set things up for the future generations of Kira, if it was already in their plan to publish.

L and Light lost for the same reason: "They're both childish and hate to lose". Mello had a similar ego. Near had no real ego. Near treated the case as a problem to be solved whereas L treated it more like a game. Near knew how to take losses in his stride and minimize costs while still moving toward a clear outcome. Both Near and Minoru were practically and reasoning without personal involvement. Minoru won in my opinion. He might not have had light's knowledge or resources but he had a personal goal and clear practical steps of achieving it. I hated the ending of his story so much.

We shouldn't compare Minoru with Light... Light fought L , Near and Mello all alone.. He tried to make world a better place and due to him crime rates decreased 70% all around the world. Where as Minoru just sold death note for money. We clearly should not think of him as new kira. Kira(Light) was God

The fact that L was facing someone in a real life setting who happened to have a magic artifact (book), still gives Light the edge regardless. They live in what would be a real world like us, who would be able to prove that a book killed someone or that supernatural abilities are the reason behind someones death. Despite him facing L and the police...he had the edge simply by having a untraceable method to his killings.

The writers did Light wrong in the end.

I think people severely underestimate Minoru's smartness by highlighting Light's achievements and stating his lack of help from Ryuk, even though Light had several privileges under his belt. Light was able to achieve so much specifically because of his privileged family life. If his dad was not the a high ranking officer in the police department, he would not have had the skills to murder or avoid capture in the first place. In addition to that, no one knew of the Death Note prior to Light's usage and he was well-respected enough in his community for most people who wholeheartedly trust him and follow his command. It's unsurprising Ryuk wasn't used as help very often in comparison to Minoru. Minoru did not have the luxury of access to the records of people to use the death note, and he was considered to be a commoner in society so he had little to no human support. In addition to that, Minoru himself mentioned that people are a lot more cautious in the post-Kira era and it is also extremely difficult for him to avoid capture due to the new age of internet which Light did not have to live through yet. It's not surprising that he would have to rely on Ryuk. People also fail to realise that Minoru's strategy that he thought in middle school was ultimately undetectable but people could make educated guesses that Light was Kira when he was in high school. Which Kira is smarter? Based on the definition of "learning faster" I would personally say Minoru, but Light himself shows his ability to use his resources to the fullest extent and was able to avoid the police for years despite the occasional mishaps from his own allies. Both plans caused great difficulty for investigators said and greatly impacted people all over the world. To sum it up, it's really hard to tell which of them is smarter because of the vastly different approaches and backgrounds of their life.

There is a key difference between Minoru and Light. While Light outsmarted and evaded some of the smartest individuals in the world, Minoru outsmarted the shinigami king. They even created a new rule to account for his actions.

While I haven’t even read the one-shot, I really like Minoru just based on his motivation. While I don’t think he’s nearly as smart as light, near, L or maybe even Mello, I still think he had overall the most reasonable goal. He doesn’t really have any strong conviction to fix the world or gain ultimate power, he’s just a kid who wants to get some money. He’s at least smart enough to know not to risk becoming a murderer and even if he gets caught selling the notebook, he wouldn’t have nearly as many charges as every other death notebook user.

I really hated that Minoru died, I mean, he just died because the script wanted that. No one advised him that the rules changed. I'm really mad at that, I mean, why did Minoru had to died?

Honestly let’s talk about how the Shimigami King was the reason why he died, he truly outsmarted everyone. He wanted it for money, he didn’t have a “god complex” like Light and because he didn’t use the DeathNote for killing people, they wanted Tanaka to face the fate of the user who would, like Riku told Light. Sucks, because I would like to see how his money move would further impact his life and that of Japan!

Also Light recieved the death note in high school, used it through college, and continued to use after he graduated and started working for the police. He played the game for years. Meanwhile Minoru got killed after what 3 years of having the book in his possession? THEY ARE NOT THE SAME!

It physically hurt me when I saw Minoru on the ground with the cash in his hand. He didn’t deserve it.

The funniest thing is that Minoru selling the Death Note to the U.S. Government is completely out of Near's jurisdiction. Selling the Death Note shouldn't be a crime but buying it is worse. Also, Near has a huge chance to take notes of people who actually want to buy the Death Note since it can give him suspects of potential murderers and blackmailers.

The wording of the rule about someone with the shinigami eyes not being affected is very vague, but I think it means that the death note does not affect the lifespans someone with the shinigami eyes sees. So, if you decided to write down someone's name in the death note in 3 days, it wouldn't show their lifespan as 3 days but rather as their regular lifespan as if the death note doesn't exist. So the theory of Near writing Mikami's name in the death note is possible.
