I think are two ways they can do it: -Keep the game the same and make it an even more beefed up version from the 3DS remake in terms of minor gameplay tweaks/graphic updates. -Keep the spirit of the original and go for a Resident Evil and Final Fantasy VII remake approach. Where you keep many of the same beats, but introduce new elements into it.

If they do a FF7 style remake of OoT I would hope they keep the classic Zelda style gameplay and not alter it to be more like BotW/TotK with breakable weapons/shrines/Divine Beast style dungeons with terminals/climbing everything/etc. I know you mainly focused on the story changing aspects of FF7R, but FF7R also drastically changed the gameplay, getting rid of the turn based combat of the original FF7 and replacing it with action combat like the more recent FF games.

The only thing that would get me more hyped would be a cyber punk Zelda with a super detailed and realistic art direction. The reveal trailer could show Ganon scheming as a politician in a senate meeting. We'd then see a hooded figure on the streets giving out a whistle. A black motorcycle would roll up and we'd realize it's Epona, only now in the form of an AI similar to KITT from Knight Rider. One can dream.😅

With TotK theh kinda proved how little they care about the timeline or lore, I can't see them remaking OOT specifically to do anything with the lore or story, if anything their new "twist" would be some new central gameplay gimmick which ends up feeling forced, like spawning in Time blocks via the Ocarina or rewinding or fast forwarding objects with the Song of Time. Also all dungeons are now only a third of their original size and only focus on finding five magical "song statues" or some stupid bullshit.

@@thelastquincy1457 Beyond the technical limitations of the time, the game itself was as near perfect as humanly possible. The characters and story were already beyond amazing. There was zero need or want for the devs to throw in a Shamalanian twist. Their decision to completely change the story has killed any motivation that old timers, like myself, had to repurchase the games. I'll replay the PS1 version 1,000 times over before I ever consider purchasing a new console and their version. Remakes are supposed to be about recapturing the nostalgia of the original while modernizing it. By altering the story, now it's not nostalgic. All that was needed was for them to update it, not make a completely new thing. Modern SquareEnix could fuck up a wet dream, and they did.

i think remaking a game just for the sake of modern graphics is pointless. taking a classic and giving it modern graphics does virtually nothing to enhance the game, or to help modern audiences understand the impact it had when it was first released. granted, the graphics have not aged well, so polishing it up a bit is fine. they already did that in the 3DS re-release of OOT. but a full blown remake will achieve nothing.

@@triforcetimes i agree it's good to bring old games to newer audiences, but that's why the game only needs to be polished up a bit to fix some of the graphics that are jarring by today's standards. doing a full blown remake is pointless- then you just get a weird mish-mash of modern graphics and game design with 1990s graphics and game design.

So by "pulling a ff7 remake" You mean take a decade to release two parts and make story changes? Oh but i guess it'll have good graphics Ill try and be a bit less mean in this 2nd part of the comment, but i really think they shouldn't remake anything that already hasn't been remade or remastered. Either give a game that deserves a proper remaster like Zelda 2 or Capcom Zelda games while also keeping the games as one to one as possible, or just make a new thing entirely. I keep hearing people point to oot or tp over and over, wanting a remake but i really think they've done that story too many times already. Hot take: I don't get how people still enjoy dungeons designs of OoT. It was amazing for the time, but it's so basic and overdone now. It inspired the dungeon designs of thousands of games for the past 20 years now, if you never played OoT, don't worry, you already have. Don't you get bored of this flavor of hyrule? It's green fields with triumphant music, it's medieval european inspired villages with cookie NPCs, its beligerent coockoos, octorocks, moblins, and incredibly slashable bushes and breakable pots?
@hist150project5
@hist150project5 6 месяцев назад
What games have dungeons similar to OoT outside of other Zelda games? This style of dungeon is very rare in video games. The only one I can think of is Okami. Even the Zelda series did away with this kind of dungeon in BotW and TotK.
@sludgewave4786
@sludgewave4786 6 месяцев назад
@@hist150project5 I was thinking specifically about: Okami, the darksiders serie (especially 1 and 2), Dark chronicles 2, Beyond good and evil, Legacy of Kain, Blue fire. Fable 1 and 2. Ever Oasis Dawn of Mana And it might be a bit of a stretch but I would also put: Prince of Persia sands of time, Prince of persia warrior within, Prince of Persia Reboot 2008, Castelvania lament of innocence, Castelvania Curse of Darkness. Pseudoregalia (wich is really good). They are different, but they incorporate a lot of elements of Zelda OoT Dungeons progression, and add their own twist and mechanics on top of it. But my point is you can find the influence of those first 3D zeldas dungeons in most modern adventure titles even if they get a bit more distant from that Oot build: To me even souls games in general are direct descendants of 3D Zeldas: Huge focus on exploration, Various and diverse interconnected locals with their own esthetic, identity, themes, and mechanics. Key items opening gates or letting you access new areas, puzzles, backtracking, lots of secrets, lots of combat, and a boss at the end of a zone.
@hist150project5
@hist150project5 6 месяцев назад
@@sludgewave4786 Yeah but most of the games you listed are quite old, and the few that aren't old are quite obscure games. Blue Fire doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. I think there were a lot of classic Zelda type games during the PS2/Gamecube era, but with PS3 era and beyond with the rise of the "AAA formula" these kinds of games just weren't made anymore. Modern games with the classic Zelda style dungeons are extremely rare compared to stuff like the Ubisoft open world formula. It's definitely not the case that "if you never played OoT, you already have", especially people mainly into modern games. I haven't played souls like games but from what I know about them they don't really have puzzles (aside from exploration) and are mainly focused on combat, and they don't have the gadgets that Zelda games have (like hookshot, spinner, etc.), so I wouldn't call them Zelda like games.
@sludgewave4786
@sludgewave4786 6 месяцев назад
@@hist150project5 Yeah some of the game I listed are pretty old, OoT is pretty old too. blue fire and pseudoregalia are recent tho. They are indie games. Pseudoregalia came out in 2023, really good, I highly recommend it. It's barebones but the gameplay loop is extremly well done. It's like a mix of Zelda 3D in term of exploration but with a focus on 3D platforming. And I agree there was definitely a lot more of Zelda like games during the 2000s. And the reason why there is less zelda games now is just that...Games evolved. That's why I didn't put all the princes of persia in there. When Prince of Persia "the two thrones" came out, The serie shifted toward a proto more modern form of adventure game. Less exploration and much more linear. With a focus on story, and spectacle. Even in Triple A open world formula, you'll find Zelda influences. Elden ring is open world but has huge themed dungeons. In a way that OoT devs could only dream of at the time. Now about dark souls, yes they do have puzzles. Much simpler Puzzles than Zelda for sure, It's mainly about unlocking shortcuts and finding way around traps, the game is less focus around them, but they are puzzles none the less. But you don't push blocks and don't redirect beams of lights. But that not the definition of puzzles, that's just one way of doing it. And there are so much games that are doing that. I mean I didn't talk about Tomb raiders or resident evil. But they have puzzles that are really similar to what you can find in a zelda (the older Resident evil not the more recent). Devil may cry 1-3 had puzzles inspired by Zelda. And castelvania Lord of shadows too (only the first one, tho). Some of the games I cited have gadgets, not all of them, but Darksiders for exemple have gadgets. In the first one you even have a portal gun as a gadget (but definitely play the 2nd one instead it's much better). On paper Gadgets/items in Zelda are great. In practice those mechanic are less interesting than they seem: For exemple the hookshot. Fantastic Idea. But it isn't realle useful outside of the very limited places where you are supposed to use it. Haven't you try to cling on everything in Zelda OoT and ended up noticing that it doesn't work exept in really specific and limited spots (targets or climbable ledge)....It becomes an item you don't use as much as you like. The spinner is also a great exemple, You use the spinner during the dungeon, the boss fight. And on really specific spots in the overworld. Otherwise it's doesn't have any utility. This is why I call them Key items, they serve more or less the same fonction than keys. Sure you can use gadgets in combat sometimes. But it's usually gimmicky. Like boss fights. Boss fights in old school Zelda are extremly easy because of that. Just use the item you just got. Bam you won. This is why I really love how gadgets and combat evolved in BOTW. There are fewer "gadgets". Well not really gadgets, but powers. They fit the same role tho, and are much deeper mechanics, usable in countless situations. In Totk it's even more deep. Not only the core powers are great "gadgets" in themselves. But Zonais devices add so much more great ideas to the mix. Really smart game design fitting for a zelda. Sorry I did write really long paragraph. But I really love gamedesign and Zelda. And I want the franchise to evolve instead of clinging to the ideas that made it great 25 years ago. I think the happy middle ground is what nintendo did with A Link Between World. Superficially it looks like a remake, same music environement, ennemies, but it innovate in term of mechanics and structure, it's a fantastic zelda. And maybe if nintendo would do the same with OoT I would be down. But not a straight remake.
