About a year and a half ago I sat down with the rather wonderful (and exceptionally talented) Eric Valentine! I went to his new studio, and he had some incredible stuff! He had a J37 tape machine, these beautiful Strauss Monitors, but one of the things he was really freaking out about was the Oeksound plugin “Soothe.” They recently released version 2… the Soothe2! Haha
Today we’re giving away 3 copies of the Soothe2! Enter Above for a chance to win!
Oeksound calls their plugin a “Dynamic Resonance Suppressor.” What I like about this idea is that it’s taking any frequency that seems like it’s peaking just a little bit too much and dominating in the sound. How many times have you heard a vocal and thought to yourself “It’s all nasal, or it’s super piercing 3K, or there’s a lot of low-mid building up!” The name itself makes me want to use it on some vocals! So we’re going to try it out on a few different vocals and see how it performs
We had a ton of fun using the Soothe2! Watch the video below to hear how the Soothe2 performs! Now that I’ve used it, I think I’m going to have a lot of fun using it in the right circumstances! In this video, we’re just scraping the surface! I can see that it can do a ton of stuff!

i tried the demo a couple of weeks ago and was able to smoothe the highs on my cheap mic vocal recordings. This was the main problem on my recordings, and i spent hours with correctional eqing. With smoothe it was only a couple of minutes and with a better result. Unfortunately i cant afford it at the moment so i entered the giveaway, fingers crossed ;) As always great content on this channel, thanx-a-lot !

I waited and waited for a sale and couldn't wait anymore. I have spent a lot of time sweeping for resonant frequencies in acoustic guitar and vocals and notching them, but you end up just killing it in the end. lol. These dynamic eq's that intelligently know what to do on the fly just blow my mind and sound incredible. Only dipping when needed addresses an issue when needed but not squashing it 100% of the time?? Vocals never sounded so good.

Welcome to the Soothe club!! :-D Been using it since V1. I have used it on Double Bass and it was great. I have also used it (sparingly) on electric guitar groups and brass. I just upgraded to V2 and its even better (it now goes lower and uses less CPU plus more controls) Kudos to Oeksound for building this great plugin.

You're running it too hard, it's destroying the sound a bit too much. I hear something similar to bitcrushing noise. It's a nice plugin. Comparing this to Gullfoss, it's more effective (and gives you more control), but it's also producing more artifacts.

@neuroxik
@neuroxik 4 года назад
I was noticing heavy artifacts in the vocals too (both guy singer & girl afterwards), but I was dismissing it to melodyne or autotune as such are often the culprit for such artifacts, especially on breath or sibilance, except if you chop off sibilance and breaths from being touched in a more surgical melodyne
@antiHUMANDesigns
@antiHUMANDesigns 4 года назад
@@rohitRraina Yeah, I bought it as a result of Warren's video about Gullfoss. Very useful in moderation. Not as "surgical" as the "Soothe", it seems, but more transparent, as you say. I'm worried that the "soothe" plugin would be unusable because of how much it ruins the sound, but perhaps Warren just ran it too hard.

The best way to tackle anything is at it's source(room, mic, gear, the recording). still hear the bad with it on as well as bypass, but maybe I'm wrong and I have never used this plugin, I use fabfilter stuff and my ears like that.... theyre probably doing the same thing anyways lol....

Exit 151 Studios - we have been using first Soothe 1 and then Soothe 2 for 6 months. My thoughts: 1) amazing on harsh hi-hat in drum overheads, master bus tweaking, and acoustic guitars; less impressed on vocals vs DS/EQ traditional methods 2)even in 32GB 12-core mac system, it can hit cpu especially with over sampling faster than it seems in this video; 3) love the top end eq boost after the plugin - on the money!; 4)sounds good right away (wow factor) on the default but really need to not push it too hard - sounding too good can be bad (unnatural). Overall very very good and is now in the workflow for both corrective issues and sound shaping. PS -- Nice video!!!

Yep, I was backtracking some of your older videos when I came across the Erick Valentine stuff. Long story short, I snagged it during the recent sale which I believe ends today. Interesting that you added high end EQ after, I would have used an enhancer to try and minimise the cotton wool effect.

That acoustic guitar doesn't need a plug in to save the sound it needs a set up by a guitar tech!

All I have to say is "Not another plugin which is going to save us" I don't know about you but I have more plugins than I can ever use. This plugin doesn't do anything that a normal EQ. There is no such thing as "The Ultimate Vocal Plugin" Just use your ears and use the plugins you already have spent so much money on. After all the payback for most musicians / Artists is so small.

Recently I got a vocal track poorly recorded in an untreated room from my client. It sounded roomy, boxy, harsh and extremely thin. My friend told me to give a trial on soothe2. It is a real no-brainer - set and done! With this plugin, you can easily identify problematic frequencies, and they will help tame them down very effectively. I used to spend hours to find those frequencies and get them removed, and it does not always sounded great at all. But soothe2 is a real game changer as it turned my poorly recorded vocals to be a polished one. After removal of all those bad frequencies, the vocal could easily take up any saturation/EQ/compressor which made it sound bigger, and sit on top of the mix well. It is obviously NOT an ad and I do pay $219 to buy this plugin. You won't fuck this up as it is easy to use. Warren did a great job to demonstrate how you can use on your vocal. Do give a trial and you will be impressed.

Great PI. Leaves the vocal still sounding good while cutting the frequencies. After soothing maybe you could add some harmonics if the vocal is still a bit dull. It's another winner

Does YT compress the daylights out of all videos? I'm having trouble hearing the differences that are being demonstrated.

by choosing the 'delta' feature located at the bottom of the narrow column next to the main controls you hear what soothe is removing which like all of Mr. Huart's videos is 'marvellously' helpful . . .

This plugin does wonders to my mixes on the mix bus and also to some of the annoying frequencies in the bus tracks... its quite CPU heavy so that is one thing I do not like about it but over all its a solid plugin.. worth the investment
@LodvarDude

Looks like a cool plugin to tame some harsh frequencies extremely easily. Easier to use than setting up a sidechain to duck certain problematic frequencies using a mutiband compressor ..or three.. Apart from the horrible artifacts from Autotune on many of these vocals (especially on the second song), it's easy to hear that it sounds pretty decent too. Looks like a great tool. That last song though.... Aren't we over the whole I IV V VI thing by now? Or is it (God forbid!) BACK? I wonder if some A&R guy was breathing down you neck while recording that one? Am I right, Warren? ;) Stay safe and take care. Thanks for all the lessons.
