Personal take: the veil removes a soul regardless of the container kind of like a soul magnet. Therfore if any horcrux had been thrown into the veil the container would be destroyed if living... but remain intact if not and also no longer a horcrux with the soul fragment removed. The soul fragment itself would be destroyed and returning the object to its original state. Voldemorts soul being so maimed would never pass on at all. My favourite detail about the horcruxes is that they are not just items of grandure there are 1000s of items riddle could have chose. He chose items that in themselves ensure their own survival and pose no question as to its longevity. The founders relics would be highly sort after items but the people who could get hold of them would protect them like hepzibah smith did ensuring their own safety. The items are already over 900 years old when riddle gets hold of them posing the idea that nobody would question their longevity unlike the diary where it was curious that a 50 year old muggle diary was intact an unused. He would have been aware of the few ways to destroy a horcrux but nobody in their right mind would get their hands on a founder relic and destroy it even if it wasn't a horcrux.

@noblegas8485

I believe the Veil is *absolutely* deadly enough to qualify as a horcrux destroyer. It destroys your body on the most fundamental level and transfers your soul to the great beyond. So if you throw a physical object in there, that object will undoubtedly be rendered "beyond repair", which is the condition for the destruction of a horcrux (sans Harry under special circumstances, where it's the act of the Killing Curse severing the soul's connection to the body that kills the bit of Voldemort inside). Which means if you throw Voldy in there before all his 'cruxes are gone, it should reduce him to the same lesser mean misty existence as his rebounding curse after attacking Harry in '81, but afterwards, his soul is still mangled enough to stick him in Limbo. Thoughts? Edit: I should correct myself on how the killing curse works, cuz clearly it does more than just remove your soul - that's what the dementor's kiss does, and you're still able to live on as an empty thoughtless husk after that one. So clearly it has to destroy your body's ability to do body things, like it just shuts down your brain on the spot or destroys an important part of it. But if so, how is Harry able to come back from Limbo? He shouldn't even have a viable living body left for his soul to inhabit anymore. So either the Killing Curse doesn't really irreversibly destroy you on the spot but rather just shuts down all processes in your brain, in which case Harry is able to come back solely because he has a stronger soul tether than Voldy, or the killing curse does simply remove the soul itself entirely and it's the dementor's kiss that doesn't.

@@noblegas8485 i think there would be one mayor caveat to voldys soul being preserved by the horcruxes... could he escape from the other side of the veil in this form? i could imagine him getting thrown through the veil with horcruxes still intact would be a fate even worse than eternal limbo. picture this: seven tethers from seven horcruxes extend from his soul. normally they would prevent the soul from getting pulled to the afterlife (the other side of the veil) upon death. btw a similar thing can happen naturally to your "intact" soul via unresolved matters, which is how you get a ghost.( voldy himself said he was less than a ghost, a soul that did not pass on to the afterlife and condensed into shape, but in his case not an "entire/intact" soul. now "force" his prime soul to be in the afterlife via the only known (one way ) passage to the afterlife aka the veil. the passage through the veil would split his soul from his body and disintegrate the body. normally the soul would disperse in the afterlife with only the resurrection stone being capable of condensing enough to conjure it back into shape at the edge of the afterlife, but still behind the (metaphorical in this case) veil. not so much with voldy: the MULTIPLE tethers on his soul might be strong enough to keep his soul from dispersing even on the other side of the veil. the tethers of his horcruxes reaching through the veil and wrapping around the remnants of his prime soul, not allowing it to disperse, but still not capable from pulling it back through the one way ticket of the veil. his soul essentially chained to the edge of the afterlife pulled against the veil for eternity or until all (or maybe just enough) tethers are cut by destroying the howcruxes. i imagine him standing there on the other side of the veil in the ministry of magic, silvery chains extending from the veil and wrapping around his "body" where the tethers from the horcruxes reach in through the veil. unable to move more than a couple of feet from the veil but also not able to step back through it into life (or the a bit more humiliating version: he is chained face first against the veil, head smushed against the border to life and cant even move an inch because the tethers pull so strong in the direction of life but it just doesn't work...)

If Dumbledore was keeping a watch on Harry, he probably would’ve persuaded someone from the Order to adopt him. I mean, who wouldn’t? First would be Molly who would offer to take Harry in, but I don’t think that happens. Someone from the Order, maybe Mrs. Figg or Kingsley or Andromeda adopt him, and shift to Privet Drive near the Dursleys House. This way, Harry still lives where his mother’s blood dwells.

It would never happen as we all know all of them are perfectly capable of loving someone and such people don't put their toddler nephew into an orphanage. The two main reasons why they treat Harry as they do are the fact they are afraid of anything magic - for good reason, it killed their family members and they have no way of protecting themselves against magic users - and the fact Harry is a horcrux. Not just a random horcrux, he is a horcrux of the man that killed their family members. Hogwards do somehow protect against the evil coming from a horcrux, but muggles outside have no protection. Petunia, Dudley and to a lesser level Vernon hold a record for people who spent the most time in close physical contact with a horcrux.

@@petrmaly9087 True, I heard of the horcrux theory too. I am not totally convinced though, since they were mean to Harry since he can remember and became kind of nice to him when he left them for good in the 7th book. Wouldnt they just have become meaner through all seven books?

@@abraham2172 It's not mentioned in the movies, but they weren't even that insanely horrible as people think. They only put him under the stairs when he showed signs of magic, it was just short time before his letter that he was moved there permanently. Because he was showing more and more magic and they felt endangered. We see the world through the eyes of Harry. However if you look at Vernon objectively, he is a successful salesman who worked himself up from a working-class background to middle-class. Dudley when at school has no problem finding friends and working on improving himself. It looks to me more like they are accepted by others and have "people skills", but towards Harry, there is this weird "hate" - which is strong, but still never trumps the tie they have to him.

In my mind, and this is why three forbidden curses are forbidden, it is about how the magic work in the Potterverse. Some people are born with ability to do magic and we can see them Harry as child accidentally do magic. So witches and wizards learn to focus their magic using certain words and channeling it through wands. Now, a wizard could kill someone using fire or levitating a statue on some one or summoning swords out of thin air. But what avada kedavra does is using one's magic to complitely over ride victims will and ability to live. When Harry tried to use cruciatus curse Bellatrix said that he needs to really mean it. It's likely something like that, you need to actually want to and focus your being to want someone to die. That's why those three are forbidden, not only is it nasty for magic folk but also it is to do with over stepping on other persons self rights or whatever the english word is. Also also, that shows how evil Voldemort was, to able to kill that easily. Seeing everyone so much beneath him that he could just will them to die. So the wands are not like guns, not anyone can just pick them up and say the words and just happens, we saw this in the books. You need to be born with magic, you need to be strong in it, know what you want and have the focus. The spell used tells a lot about the caster. The ease what Voldemort used that curse shows how evil and horrible his mind was. It's not just his killings he did, not just the reasoning he claimed to do them. The method itself shows how he was. But that's just my magical theory.

Did the book actually state the soul would be split in half, or equal proportion? Since in my culture people are said to have 7 emotions and 6 desires. Also "soul" itself for human is considered 3 parts of 魂(soul) and 7 parts of 魄(spirit? Could not find a direct translation). Anything after the 6th split would be weaker than any previous ones, including the still living Voldy.

@ShriyaditaSS
@ShriyaditaSS 11 месяцев назад
No. Voldemort at no age could develop remorse. This is not just because of his personality. Actually, they made a video, where it is suggested that when Tom Riddle Sr. left Merope, she was depressed and started to develop an Obscurus. She would be pregnant with Voldemort at the time, and a little bit of the Obscurus would have bound itself to Voldemort. Since an Obscurus just wants destruction, Voldemort would be just like that. Full of want for destruction without any remorse. It also explains why Merope dies an hour after giving birth to Voldemort. I mean, if she died during the delivery fine, but it could be that an hour after giving birth the Obscurus just killed her. Since Voldemort had the Obscurus ever since he was born, he could never be remorseful.

I think that Voldemort would basically become TSA for the afterlife. Life is the normal everyday, Limbo is the Airport, and the Afterlife/Great Beyond is like a vacation. So I could see Voldemort asking people for their names, then asking them to please remove a physical form to step through the soul detector. And then having to wish everyone a pleasant day, while the masses shout at him to hurry it up because they are very busy people and they haven't got all day!

It doesn't say that you cut off a piece of your soul when you commit murder, but rather that you "split" your soul, and I believe it even says "in two". This would mean that the diary was actually be the most complete version of Voldemort soul, and Voldemort prime would be the smallest amount of his soul.
@SgtSupaman
@SgtSupaman 11 месяцев назад
"In two" doesn't necessarily mean "in half", since any sized portion would still make two separate pieces. I would think it is just a similarly small piece every time, such that the "prime" version would always be the largest portion (unless, perhaps, it was torn some hundreds of times). Then again, it all raises the question of how a soul can be quantified anyway. It may be that there is no such consideration when a soul is torn. The soul is weakened (for all existing instances, as some form of a connection clearly still exists between them all) by the damage of tearing apart, but not lessened in size or anything. After all, we know the "prime" version was destroyed by a rebounded killing spell, but that same version was the one that returned (none of his horcruxes spawned a soul to replace him, since all the horcruxes he created prior to that still held their pieces). So the pieces are just anchors and not souls in and of themselves (though the diary one gets its own memories and experiences due entirely to the magic of the diary itself).

It is canonically confirmed that when the soul is split. It is in half. Harry actually has more of Voldemort in himself than Voldemort prime.
@ezradanger

@@SgtSupaman I'm not talking about physical size when I say that the earlier horcruxes would be bigger. But rather just that it would be half of his original soul, and the next one would only be a quarter of his original since it is only half of the half, and so on. Also, there are multiple reasons that his "prime" soul was the one that became "him" again. One is that it's the only one that wasn't bound to something. There was no way for the soul in the horcruxes to leave, and no one knew about them, so it makes sense they weren't used. Also, it's explained that a horcrux is kind of the opposite of a human with a soul, so that could be why when they were destroyed they didn't behave the same way as when Voldemort was hit with the rebounding avada kedavra. It's also possible that they did behave the same way. That when they were destroyed the piece of soul became the same ephemeral thing as we saw in the philosophers stone, but just like the 10 years before the first book, they were just floating aimlessly, unable to "do" anything, but still anchored to "this side of the veil", then with the final death of Voldemort's body, there was no more soul anchored to this side, and all the pieces went to limbo. Also, while it's possible that the diary was basically just a "picture" and a memory, it's also possible that it was the representation of the 16yr old version of Voldemort's soul, and that all of the horcruxes could have basically done the same thing as snapshots of the soul that was placed in them. After all, if Voldemort had returned in the chamber of secrets, I see no reason why that would have been any different than what happened in the goblet of fire, just with a younger Voldemort, but it would have still been Voldemort.

I didn't think that Voldy would be stuck in limbo following the 'death' of all his horcruxes. I had the impression that his limbo was because at the time some of his soul was on each side. But I do think that if all of him was eventually killed then it would still be torture because none of the pieces of soul are intact, sort of like having feeling in each chopped up section forever.

The first horcrux has more of his soul than any of the other horcruxes. The last piece in his regenerated body is the smallest, weakest soul fragment because of all the times it was torn in half to make horcruxes. So I could see the first, the diary, having more power than any other piece of Voldenmort's soul, and also actually being the closest to a normal soul, it had the most potential of regenerating Voldemort.
@RancorSnp

Yeah, I always really disliked the idea of the diary being special due to being a Diary. It makes the most sense to me that the thing that makes the diary special, is simply the fact it was the first and has the most, the purest soul out of every item. I believe it makes sense for a horkrux, no matter what item it is to be a sort of a "snapshot" of the person at the time, and it doing what it can to find a soul to use in order to manifest said snapshot into the world of the living. Being protected from death doesn't really have much value if all it does is make you less than a ghost for the eternity. Buuuut if the purpose of the Horcrux is to manifest the person as they were in life - then they can seek out and bring back the original soul to life. Other Horcruxes also try to communicate with people nearby, they are just not as strong as the diary.

I hate that the books don't give any clues about that. I like to imagine Pettigrew sneaking Voldemort's wand (and eventually hiding it at the Burrow), but nothing is ever said about his body. On the one hand, why would anyone think Voldemort was dead without a body being found? However, I think that if his body was in the house, no one would've thought he was still out there. He would be completely and utterly alone with no sensory input at all, with the possible exception of a minimal amount of light so that he could see that there was nothing around him (although that is a point of conjecture). Since his soul is about 00.15%, unstable and goes into anything at random, this would become a problem since it would just create more somehow. Harry, Quirrel, Bathelda Bagshot and some others were accidental horcruxes, this thing would create a tone of them, and one would be the veil itself. If he went through, he would just be trapped there, not being able to come back, since it is a type of limbo, a fate worse than death. Thanks to the Horcrxes, he will still be anchored to the mortal plain. Only a boy born on July could stop him, otherwise Dumbledore would have gotten shot of him a long time ago.

I have a theory that, because Voldemort is practically almost as much a hollow shell of himself as that of a dementor; The veil arch might keep his essence in limbo but won't allow him to pass on into the "void"; he will still "exist" in the living world but not quite in the same way as a dementor or a ghost might stay behind in the land of the living. Voldemort would just be like a "Time Anomaly" that never left either plane of existence.

I’d like to imagine that if they thought to try killing Voldemort with the veil, they’d just put a sign on the top of it that says “Free Power” and wait for him to walk through. They might even get Lucius too. Or, if you can see through the veil to things behind it in the living world (I don’t remember if it’s ever described like that in the book or shown like that in the movie), have a cardboard cutout of Harry on the other side and wait for Voldemort to go after him.

The only thing left of his soul by the time he went after Harry was just the part that wanted to exist at any and every cost; the only fragment left was "fear." So that's 2. His fear of death is the most powerful driving motivation of his existence; everything he does throughout the series is a singleminded obsession at dealing with his only perceived threat. So fear took over his sense of self and proceeded to whittle away at everything else starting with his "humanity."
