Jets fans are awesome and I absolutely believe they can sustain an NHL market, but it's definitely a weird spot. Season tickets have gone way down and they don't show any real signs of improvement. The owner coming out and saying how bad it's been isn't the best sign
@ozzyman646
@ozzyman646 Год назад
They have some half decent prospects coming, I don't think it's a full rebuild but gotta tweak it. Their defense is not bad. Goaltender is great, Elhers was hurt most of the year. They'll probably get some good prospects and draft pick from the Habs for Dubois. Perfetti, Lambert, Lucious on the way. I think their in alot better position than Pittsburgh or the Islanders, but I think they need a strong presence in that room and for some reason nobody wants it or its still divided?? Just my opinion. Would I want to play their when it's -35, absolutely not. So yeah I would be hoping for LA, Florida, even Phoneix but I think it'll still be awhile before Winnipeg goes.

Winnipegger here. Manitoba has been crushed by inflation, and has seen the highest increase in costs across the country. It's impacting a bunch of industries, including sports. The lower attendance is in large part because people aren't able to shell out the 200$ for a game as often as they used to. Yes, Canada Life Centre is small and the team needs a new barn, but we can't disregard what's going on in the province economically.

@bustertn2014

It's hitting EVERYBODY. While it might be worse in Winnipeg specifically, every city, state, province and country are getting crushed right now. The smaller population base is the biggest issue. In bigger cities there are more people on average with disposable income, or at least more than have some at times. Like Vegas for instance. Sold out every game this year in an arena with a capacity of 17.8k or so, but a population of 2.9 million makes the difference.

Respectfully totally disagree. Jets are a smaller market team, but like you said people are feeling the pain of the pandemic and with less people in the market that mean less people that can take those tickets when people decide to no long buy them. the whiteout this year for playoff will also rejuvenate the fan base after years without that excitement of live playoff hockey in winnipeg. That being said the jets have one of the richest owners connected with them partnered with true north sports supporting the team, David Thomson. As for the arena they have put alot of work into it improving it but just isnt much room to do that. they have really committed to the jets though with the true north square located across the street and stuff like that. one thing also you should take into account is ticket price, winnipeg ticket price is very high in comparison to other markets so it is a bit deceiving. Winnipeg jets season ticket packages when they came back to winnipeg sold out in record times and you had to sign up for a 5 year term after the five year term there was a small amount of turn over but mostly all season tickets and very little single game tickets were available then having to lock into i think it was 3 or 5 year term again on season tickets. those terms came up during the pandemic with people stuggling for money many let their season tickets go and going throw a pandemic and money being tighter doesnt lead to more people wanting to spend that money to buy into the new openings created in the season ticket market. Plus discounting the coyotes is just not ok to do because the NHL has done all these things to keep the team in arizona and continue to support team and not move it despite everything. think you make good content but think your take here is bad. just because the winnipeg jets have a smaller market and not filling the capacity every night does not mean this team is embarrassing. I would like to personally invite you to a jets game here in winnipeg so you can experience this fan base first hand. it is not all about numbers and sure money is important but this team is more than money for the people of winnipeg. No hate just wanted to say my peace about the jets.

Winnipeg is small, and we think small. When the MTS centre was built, I wondered, why would they build another arena with only 15,000 seats (I say another, because the previous Winnipeg arena had the same number of seats). Add to that, the seats in there are darned small. We'll see what happens, but when you got a city like Houston (10 million) that's within a few hours of a dozen cities with 100k or more, you kind of can see how this might go.

The NHL would expand 2 more teams before moving a team. Why move the Jets to Houston for example when a business there can pay 800m that goes straight to the commissioners of the NHL. With ads everywhere, Covid seeming to be over people still need time to come around. Plus Winnipeg has never had to promote tickets cause they were always sold out, this is their first time doing a big season ticket drive and I think people are reading into it way too much. I think you need to do a little more research on how wealthy Winnipeg’s ownership is and what they’re doing (building true North square, building residential, and possibly buying portage place mall in downtown Winnipeg) they are investing in downtown Winnipeg piece by piece and it would be silly for them to do that if there was even a slight chance of the Jets leaving because these businesses will help the Jets and vice versa.

you sound like your just kind of winging it here. Like your kind of guessing they must be in trouble because of seating capacity. But the financial situation of a club is a lot more complex than that. Winnipeg is not going to let their team go, and Bettman is going to let them go twice, after he has permitted American teams to survive on life support. The main danger to Canadian teams is the star players and free agents want to play in the US, so no Cups in Canada for 25 years, but I think Winnipeg will survive.

First off. The jets make more revenue at 14,000 than almost every sunbelt team in the US. As ticket prices are 30% higher. Truenorth owns the building, owns the practice facility, owns the AHL affiliate. Which puts them at a better position. Canada life centre has 15,400 seats, a ton of those are loge and premium seating. I'm not sure why 2000 nosebleeds are a difference maker. The jets are fine true north is making huge investments in downtown winnipeg. They are simply just reminding fans that season tickets are available. Every franchise in the league took a hit in covid.

@Nathan let's keep things in perspective here. An arena that holds 15,006 seats sells 93% of their seats on a regular basis. Most American teams would love to have those kind of numbers on a regular basis. All this is, is an overreaction for a well managed team from the owners to the fans. Winnipeg seat sales by the numbers will always be at the bottom of the league as the arena they play is basically the smallest in the league. However, if you go by percentage they are one of the top teams in the league for filling their arena every night. I just don't respect a video based on rumor or manipulated facts. It's well known that Winnipeg doesn't even use the revenue sharing offered by the NHL. Financially this team is fiscally responsible, well supported by the community and backed by strong ownership with deep pockets. This team isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

The Jets aren't moving. They're one of the most well-heeled teams in terms of ownership among all NHL teams. The amount of financial backing the Jets have in place ensures a permanent stay in the Peg, despite the small seating capacity of their home arena. Mark Chipman & the ownership group will not move the team, but will move and shake this summer in other ways IMO. So Jets fans can expect the departures of several players who have been a part of the franchise for multiple seasons and a part of a team that can't win in the playoffs. Expect the Jets to be active during the upcoming NHL Entry Draft by moving players and assets to other teams in exchange for players who will play the style their Head Coach Rick Bownass intends to play. Offense will be subtracted for defense.

Top 16 regardless of conference and division, division winners get home ice for the first round only and it would be exciting. In 2018 the Jets were screwed over by the current FLAWED playoff format. That season, teams 1 and 2 overall met in the SECOND ROUND, with the Jets prevailing over the Presidents Trophy-winning Preds, but they emptied the tank to do so. They then had to face an unusual new team made up of four relentless second lines... it doesn't matter how "good" you are, it's a lost cause when you are exhausted. In my mind, the Jets would have been in the 2018 finals against Washington were it not for this stupid, punitive playoff structure... and maybe that would have taken some of the sag out of later ticket sales.

Quebec City has the Videotron Center with a capacity of over 18,000 hockey fans. The seventh largest hockey arena in N.A. without an NHL team. Whether Winnipeg stays or goes, Quebec City deserves at least another look. The metropolitan area has a population of almost 840,000, about equal with Winnipeg. Imo Quebec City could sell more than enough seats to make a profit. Allons y les Nordiques. There’s even an argument that Hamilton could become an NHL franchise. The greater Hamilton area is over 700,000, and the city is surrounded by smaller hockey cities within an easy driving distance. The First Ontario Center can hold almost 17;500. Whatever, we should at least get two more Canadian teams. Come on Bettman, no more excuses, Canadian hockey fans want more Canadian teams, not less. Hang in there Winnipeg, and buy some tickets.
