COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I FOUND WRONG! Sony KD-60X690E with 6 red Blinks, Full LED TV repair. 

I have done about 5 of those and would never return this model to the customer with a single strip changed (always full set on this one). Diodes is one issue; continuity across strip junctions is another…) Either way it’s always a full set on this Sony Junk. Cheers!

You sir, are the man! Mine was behaving exactly like the second TV you had in the first video where it inexplicably started working again, and the boards also tested very similarly. I suspect I'll be changing the strips sooner than later anyways but I'm going to try and ride this out, at least until I have better means of getting the panel apart. Thanks for the very detailed videos. (UPDATE: It died again after a few days, but I noticed the picture had a blue tint and was dim, so that indicated the backlights were dying anyways. Bought some suction cups and swapped them out in the dining room. Took about three hours start to finish but it's back in action!)

Thank you for sharing this. I'm sure there was some aggravation trying to figure this one out. I think it's nuts how these name brand companies keep trying to make it either harder or more expensive for techs to repair sets. Shame on them. I love the advances in image quality but when it cost a thousand or more for a 5 year TV before the lights or something else quits .... guess I'm old school, it seems a bit greedy. I guess that's why Sears went out of business - they stood behind their product. I have a Toshiba 52" DLP that I've spent $160 over the last 20 years to replace the bulb twice, which takes about 5 mins. Maybe not the best quality picture but I'm not changing backlights every 5 years. Yes, it was more expensive than the same size TV you can buy today for the the price, but a lot less to maintain. Great job security for us tech's but all they really want to do is sell you another set. I get that technology changes but people need to realize that electronics can be repaired for less than having to buy new every few years unless you need the best. Todays electronics are built to last short term due the fact that technology changes so quickly. Inherent obsolescence. There's nothing bad about repairing what you have. Go green. 👍

I'm curious about pulling the diodes off the others and trying the strips without them.

I’m curious as to what was the problem with the identical tv and it’s intermittent failure? If issue is intermittent would cleaning contact points be advised as first attempt to resolve? I read that if (same as here)Sony tv sits unused for months it can also fault out upon reuse? Which is why I’m asking about contact points. My tv sat unused and now is 6 blinks. I don’t have the testing equipment to do the troubleshooting. Likely not the understanding necessary to execute either. Hate to add to landfill because replacement cost is equivalent to the repair. Actually that makes sense. Especially since LEDs are diodes. Use a stronger LED and eliminate the zener diodes. Probably a lot of TV from this year having the same problem.

Your right it's hard work... led replacement is the majority of repairs now.. especially the TCL televisions

Hey Big dog, question for you my 2018 Sony 900f had I think the five red blinks was told by two repair people was a backlight issue. Had a guy fix first time I got back had visible tape on the lower side of the screen. I took back to him fixed but now one area kind of middle toward left top seems a little darker. He told me was using Sony parts now nit sure he actually did. Other repair place said 6 weeks to get parts he had in two days...could that be the cause? Thanks!

Brilliant video that thoroughly explained your process of diagnosing, solving and repairing a TV that would otherwise end up in land fill. Imagine if SONY had an easy method of sliding in replacement LED strips without tge complete dismantle. Cheers from a 6 blink SONY TV owner in Australia. Will give it a go.

This video is the BEST! I was able to fix my TV (same model) in about 2 hours with some replacement backlights I found online. Same exact issue - no image, 6 blinking red lights. Do not remove the led strips, in fact they all al working so look at the power connection t the led strips.

They sold a Vizio E60-E3 and E70-E3 shared the same screen tcon and the worse version of those backlights that turned blue

There's no schools for TV repair. Watching videos like this and learn by doing. He goes over toubleshooting and soldering.👍

Definitely had to change all the strips anyway, the color of light from the old vs new was not exactly the same and would probably show up in the image.

Looked like the old LCD TV bad backlight invertor issue. Quick flash of light then dark screen.

Sony make the best Tvs but put cheap diode on the backlight strips or individual Led lights. Thanks again for sharing BigDog king of backlight repairs... And don't forget to turn your bright·ness down to 50 % on your Tvs...

I see it in Samsung but first to see in Sony . led bulbs are only safe with a series resistor due to wattage and heat it was prevented. It is 4:30 am in India

Diodes faulty, new LED strips required, change all of them got it ,not techy minded Big Fella plus I got fingers like sausages so me doing the repair aint happening , the vid shows me what the problem is, the info given, gives me a chance to talk to the repair guy as if I know what Im talking about . I had 5 years warranty when I bought my Sony TV ,Im well pissed of at this fault , especially when the issue appeared 3 months after the warranty ran out . After watching your vid all I gotta do is cost the repair against another TV weigh it up, I looked at the price of the LED`s so its his time and the pick up and return ,how long did it take you to do the the repair by the way .? I went out looking for another 55" TV yesterday , Samsung, Sony, Panasonic , LG which I liked @ £1499 Oled,Qled Ultra, HDR 4K ,8K, it was doing my box in . Man, two words.. THANK YOU. Figured for $50 (LEDs and cheap suctions at Walmart) and three hours later with taking a break, it’s working again. The hardest parts were: 1.) that blasted tape at the bottom, 2.) putting those plugs back in after replacing the strips; and 3.) replacing the black tape strips. Nothing you can’t figure out, but regardless…. Again, thank you.

Hi Big dog, thanks for your great video, I am located in Australia, my tv is KD70X609E, I can say my tv is just exactly the same to yours on your video. I followed all the steps, I can see the six red light blinking has gone, the screen turns on (as i can see the change from deep black color to dark grey or dark blue color. but I dont have display (no fonts, no information, no sony image at the beginning) do you think it could be any wrong connection or damage of ribbon cables attached to the black screen to the chasis circuits? Just did mine. Great tips on how to get it apart. Mine would flash/sometimes work. After getting it down to the leds I just exposed where they connect to the main power. Accidentally hit one of the connections and it shut down. Found that it was just the connection. Put it back in tight and now working. Let’s hope that was it! Check them connections people!

Good job. We know that life of the led s 5-7years. Some times 10 years. Actually it calculates by hours. You can find it by googling. I can say that issue the 95% of led tvs which I fixed was led strips . I have same model tv with same issue, and I ordered led strips few days ago and found this video right now. It could be power board 4% and signal board 1%.

Sadly I have 2 of the same TV's except 70'' version and 7 years old, one with that same 6 red lite blinks, the other one is too blue in color on all channels, and worse if a team is wearing blue uniforms!! And after watching these two videos, I'm out of my league trying to fix them, so off to the dump they'll go😢😥

The TV I Have All I Get Is A Standby Light So I Know The Power Suply Board Is Ok So I'm Leaning Tward The Logic Board & Tcon Board.

thank you for showing it like it is ,i have a 70 inch version and had the blue screen and changed the led strips, no-one shows the little screws or the hard/awkward bits like you did or that i found , pulling the white stoppers hurt the finger nails and replacement was a bit hard , great video showing care taken ect cheers many thanks woof woof

So when I test the BL+ terminal it’s abt 200v constant but the BL- starts with 60over V n the V reading starts to fall . When I disconnect the T-con board ,the tv starts to have sound n no more 6 blinking light Please advise Thanks
