The Guthrie city council shared some heated moments Tuesday night during their discussion regarding the City’s purchase and issuance of the Guthrie Police Department’s ammunition. www.GuthrieNewsPage.com
100,000+ rounds in the inventory and the officers can't even meet the minimum qualification requirements.... That's a failure of police administration and the chief is trying to blame unions.
@@Facetimer864 The department can establish a qualification and training standard. I'm in a union and it has zero authority to override the client agency's Statement of Work.
I wonder if that ammunition budget would be better spent on descalation, investigative and legal training. Ammunition should not be treated as a common consumable because of the rarity of justified lethal force. Law enforcement's primary function is to support and uphold the US Constitution. Not shooting civilians. Or playing with guns. Practice on your own dime. Youre already being paid with the expectation of posessing adequate firearm skill. Its on you to maintain that skill not the taxpayers.
Change of working conditions has to be a material change. Example, change ammo brand from Winchester to Remington would not require contract negotiations or impact bargaining.
I understand the ‘why’, but I will never understand the approach. Does the council not WANT to be on the same team with the Chief? Should the Chief, at this point, trust the Council? Trust is gone.
This is a classic... Let's have a meeting..then we'll have a meeting about the meeting we just had and we'll schedule anther meeting to talk about that meeting. They need a new City Manager and new Board members.. Except for Don... He can stay.
Do they all have cottage cheese in their mouths. ? Hey. How about getting together with those other cities and buying in bulk? Drive down price per round.
This is disgusting...give a cop as many rounds as necessary to pass a crucial shooting test, and you expect the public to rely on that officer, there are reasons people wash out, not everyone is meant to or capable to properly hold the position.
100,000 rounds in inventory, and the chief is in a sweat! Machine pistols! Wow! I don’t trust this guy. As many attempts as they need to pass the shooting test? Are they hiring dishwashers? This whole thing stinks to high heaven.
I think the people on this post should do some research on the 2021 Biden budget for all non military federal agencies. In 2021 our government spent more money on small arms for agencies than our military. IIR it was 1.3 billion out of a total of 12 billion manufactured rounds this year which, to our best estimate, came to 24,000 rounds per government employee per year. The military gets no ammuntion to speak of from this total as theirs comes from the Lake City arsenal. I understand that covers the FBI, DEA, DOJ, ATF and several other agencies but I'm sorry, this was way overboard.
Don may or may not be right or correct on everything but I think between him and the manager who have both deathly put in the work are best suited to solve the problem. Other council members that complained about Don researching studying trying to better understand the issue was wasted time and energy and was frivolous are the ones who are actually being frivolous. Don spent 40 hours trying to save the city thousands of dollars what he was elected to do is What I Call getting the most bang for your buck. One seemed a little jealous which makes me wonder how much time and effort has he spent on this issue or any issue. He is trying to fault a man I guess for working too hard and trying to do his job right. Overall that was a pretty good meeting I'm not a citizen of your town but it seems to be in good hands, but of course politics and politicians are always one step away from disaster, lies and Corruption.
So he thinks the union should run the police department..that's one of problem with police now . You got a union that know matter what backs the police. Never the people they say the are he to serve
a) For only 25k they can hire an outside consultant. It's the government. b) I have no idea why this played after the last video c) This isn't heated- See Rob Ford
Perhaps the town can next better ration out the use of hand sanitizer and toilet paper? It’s wasteful for people to use multi-ply paper and use two sheets when one would more than likely suffice. Would make sense hire a new full-time employee to dole out sheets after completion of forms done 10 business days in advance and completed in triplicate after approval from town counsel.
Police across the country too busy wamting to play g.i. joe. Whoever presented the 1000 rounds cap was very reasonable. If they want to blow rounds at the range spend their own dime. This is a great glimpe at how entitled police are in this country
Does the union get to sign both sides of the contract....oh wait, someone else is signing this union agreement allowing them to make the rules that the town has to live by. It is a very common practice for the unions to willingly be the bad guys....
What kind of police department doesn't keep track of how much they're spending on ammunition? The amount of time it takes to "research" should be 10 minutes.
Are they using the oldest ammunition first? Almost $1,000 per officer in 9 months for Guthrie. Wow! Ammunition! This chart says it all. No new ammunition purchase for this year. To be on the agenda for next year. No tracking is taking place. That is a lot of ammunition that could be used for personal use. That is not right! Now that this report has been done, it will be easy to keep it up every year. A trillion businesses HAVE to do this every year. Good job, Mr Sir in the red shirt!!! Shame on those men who are knocking having the report done. One man going to the city manager is NOT TRANSPARENCY. YOU NEED THE REPORT FOR TRANSPARENCY. Yes, budget for your needs. This year, we would vote that NO ammunition is purchased. Use the money on children, homeless, almost homeless, the elderly, education and training of children toward becoming productive adults. Praises for the Mr Sir in the red shirt!! Since you have an over abundance of ammunition, why would the union have a problem? Why would officers have a problem? You are in charge of the budget and clearly the budget is not needed for ammunition at this time. Put $5,000 in their budget for ammunition and supplies and add this item to the agenda again next year before the budget is due.
You’re the kind of person that costs millions in grievances a year. Don’t let not knowing what you’re talking about stop you from having an opinion, though.
What strikes me most about this board is the absence of women! Then again, having unaccounted for ammunition is something which should never happen. My advice - avoid Oklahoma ! They are out of touch and control.
More white power delays over a few thousand dollars in dispute. Just approve the budget presented and move on. Wasted government procedures viewed on you tube to show the stupidity of collective bargaining. What a waste of time.
