Impressive fix. It was useful to me to see how the spacer /should/ just come off. My axle seal needs replacing but currently I'm struggling to remove the spacer as it it is seized to the axle of my 2004 Westwood T1600. Have tried penetrating fluid, stilson, blow torch a few times but still it hasn't budged. Like you, I'm not keen to split the case open if I don't absolutely need to.
Andy, it's a shame I can't post some images in the comments section - they'd show exactly the same fault with a Countax mower I purchased, after the owner complained that it had stopped driving. The driveshaft had snapped in the same place - at the end of the keyway. I also clamped it in a length of angle iron to ensue the shaft was straight and welded it up. One of the most satisfying repair jobs undertaken for a long while!
John, what you can do is build a slide show and upload that to your channel as a video. Interesting that it's designed failure. I have some vague recollection that this happen to the previous Countax and I fixed it in a similar fashion, maybe 10 years ago. Cheers
Thanks Andy, Well done on the repair. Was wondering how you would be going to aline the shaft. Having just finished mowing my acre with my scythe mower glad she survived the cut.
Owen, in the back of my mind I'm now reminded that I've done this before on another Countax, built in failure I suspect. Corporates, don't trust them. Buy another mower or not need to work for 2 years, who can choose? cheers
Really useful video. I have a similar machine but the exact same hydrostatic drive. I have no motion at all despite the oil being full and all the drive belts ok etc. Any suggestions on what within the hydrostatic drive itself may be at fault?
Had the same thing happen last week. Rear/left overtook me with stub axle inside. I ground flat the gearbox end, and drilled and tapped for a cap head screw. Same on the broken piece, with a chamfer to take a weld. Angle ground off the excess, and jobs a goodun.
Purchased a new big stick welder at around scrap value many years ago expecting to have a job for it and learn to use it, as I've only ever mig welded cars. Is there a good reason to use and learn to use an old fashioned potted transform based welder.
Hello sir. Please give me some advice , I have the same tractoras as yours but when I drive in front with the knives on when I enter the load ( in the grass ) the engine does not stay revved and gives to stop. What can be the cause? Thank you very much 🙏
Deck bearings dont last forever and it may be this when you wade into long grass. I replaced my deck bearings after 165 hours as mine were noisy and in I case completely dry. I dont think countax used very good quality bearings initially. It can be done at home if you are a reasonable mechanic its just a case of methodically dismantling the deck...
My hydrostatic is starting to lose power. I suspect its the hydraulic fluid. In your video you mentioned topping it up after first removing valve. Is that relatively straightforward?
