Counter Strike's Original Maps That Got Removed 

Correction: the flag is indeed the (former) flag of Iraq, used up to 2003. Syria's flag has only two stars and no Arabic script on it.

Vegas was classic in Deathmatch servers in Bulgaria! I miss this map badly, wish one day someone will do a remake!

as_tundra was one of my favorite maps in cs. Even if it was removed on 16th January 2003, somehow I managed to play it somewhere between 2009-2014. It was pretty fun to play since it has a different game mode as the assassination.

i love tundra because of how creepy it is. Pure The Thing vibes. Also its very fun in Nexon Zombies

If you want to play de_foption with bots, it's better to play it with PODBots in CS1.6, CS1.5 or CS1.0 (Half-Life mod version for Steam). They navigate all the map and use lifts, buttons and destroy doors/windows. Keep the awesome good ol' CS content DeZ.

i always really enjoyed Vegas and Highrise from the beta days, despite acknowledging they didn’t have the same quality or flow as the obvious “hit” maps. I just really dug the aesthetic (especially with Vegas) and always hoped they would get reworked and introduced sometime down the line. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be

You forgot to mention that in de_vegas you can walk up to a microphone and press the button to interact and you'll hear "aham, thank you very much" as a reference to Elvis

I remember there was a CS 1.6 "cut content" server that hosted all of these maps alongside the offficial ones (but they appeared less in the map poll because players often outvoted the others for dust 2 or assault whenever they appeared) and even the freaking vehicle test map and the escape maps. Also that server had a pluggin (i think) for the escape maps to work properly (kind off), if 5 or more terrorist escaped then the T wins (depending on the quantity of the players on the T side anyways) and you despawn after reaching the escape zone like the VIP on "as_" maps. Damn i miss that server.

Wow, this video actually brought me a lot of memories. I remember it was around 2005 or 2006 and I asked my dad about Counter-Strike 1.6 (I mean i wanted it as a gift) I was around 6 years old and he got the Counter-Strike S.T.A.L.K.E.R (to this day I’ve never searched for it again so I dont know if it was a mod or what the hell it was) I remember it had hundreds of maps including most of the ones you talk about in this video but, I completely remember “de_vegas” and actually im getting goose booms while typing this. Such a creepy but huge map with a lot of detail into it, I miss those days, even playing with bots was fun. Huge nostalgia feeling, thank you for this video.

I remembered one thing after hearing "T-bots can't navigate", at the sauna map, sometimes half of the CT-bots can't navigate, and further more, not even the hostages wont go to a quick route that leads to near the T-spawn.

I still remember a trick on as_tundra at the large cliff in T spawn, if you hold WA or WD at the sharp corner of it you can climb to the top slowly.

As someone who played all these maps in their peak relevance (except tundra I guess since apparently it was popular in beta which I didn't play), here's my ranking of them from worst to best: - as_tundra: Don't exactly have fond memories of this map and it felt rarely played by the time 1.0 came out (from this pool, this map has the foggiest layout in my mind). Highrise and Oilrig were frankly way more interesting and fun VIP maps. Tundra lacks the verticality and variety in spaces that makes the other two VIP maps at least cool (no cool epic elevator fights or flanks from glass windows, no cool rope climbing or CT spawn vent boosting). - de_foption: de_prodigy's significantly more confusing cousin. The video highlights why this map was a forgettable map gameplay-wise, though it is very cool thematically and memorable for that reason alone. Oh, and the fact that you could move and jump while planting the bomb in CS 1.0 so people would start planting, then jump off the rail at the very end so the bomb was planted in an undefusable pit of death. Nice. - cs_arabstreets: Quite fun in the context of when it came out, when people played very suboptimally (MP5 was considered the go-to for many players because M4 and AK were too hard to use!) and liked to rush as T's on hostage maps. The battles that would spawn in the middle of the maps were quite epic. The T spawn itself is quite a tough fortress with only the ladder and button-garage door entrances. It definitely wouldn't age well today without modifications (e.g. if it were in CS:GO, place a hostage in the radio room, so T's have to actually rotate from spawn once that hostage is taken). - de_rotterdam: Actually quite the serviceable map in comparison to others here. Yeah, it's at de_cbble levels of imbalance if we're talking competitively, but it was honestly quite a fine pub map. Interesting layout that made it feel more like a sequel to de_train. I still remember my favorite route as T being the top-left entrance into the trainyard-esque bombsite. - as_highrise: Rotterdam is objectively a better map, but I personally enjoyed highrise more. In a time where competitive video gaming and tryhard'ing wasn't a thing in the US instead of the norm, Ts would actually push and this led to some incredibly fun skirmishes that I remember 23 years later lol. Of course there were token ladder campers and snipers all over the rooftop. But hey, people sucked enough that the CT's still worked out wins at times. - de_vegas: Fun but the video is absolutely correct - this map's layout is quite confusing! Even after all these years, I still struggle to have a mental map of how to navigate through it (to be fair, this is the case with all of these maps I mention and I'm pretty certain it wasn't like I memorized the layouts thoroughly as a kid either). Cool theme and cool spots to skirmish in lend itself to a unique feeling and fun pub map. - cs_thunder: This is the most inexplicable removal in my opinion and the video seems to agree. This map was awesome for giant pubs because of its size and simple enough to navigate through while offering enough side routes and interesting paths and off-angles. It was almost as fun when briefly reintroduced in a CS:GO operation, proving itself through the test of time over a dozen years later as a fun pub map. A special mention goes out to 1.0 cs_siege when it had an APC. It was a Nipper map before Nipper maps. The base map was cool for its time, but the APC made it the king of unintentional comedy and trolling. People would race to be the driver and roll over teammates, back up into the spawn garage to trap teammates who got in, drive it underneath the bridge and into the tunnel to try and jam the elevator, and every once in a while actually drive it through the road to T spawn. When this got removed in 1.1, the map lost all its charm and basically no one ever played it again except for a brief reintroduction in a CS:GO operation.

I have fond memories of all these maps. I hated it back in the day when a new version of CS came out and there were maps gone. I made a map pack for myself with all the cut maps in that could be installed in any version of CS. I think another Easter Egg in de_vegas is the microphone on stage, if you 'use' it it sounds like Elvis and says "Ahaha thank you very much".

Very interesting video I just downloaded de_vegas for css like, 2 days ago, while I was on my map-downloading streak day, just found out yesterday that it had a cs1.6 version, and now that it was actually an official classic map, lol Maybe that explains why I thought it was too interesting to be forgotten by time. Hope it has a CSGO remake as well.

as_tundra was my favorite map, and it is especially good for zombie plague mod. Its cold atmosphere fits well with it. the only problem with the map is the undeground tunnels. zombie bots can get stuck if they manage to get there

i remember playing 1.6 on my brothers shitbox office desktop when i was like 7 or 8, and i remember vividly some maps that i just cant seem to find now, as if they never existed. one was a hostage map fought in an airport (this one had a dog easter egg) and another one was a plane crash site in a snowy place(this one had frozen rivers that if you stood on for too long youd break the ice and fall in and start taking damage) and so many others. i should mention that i got the game from a netcaffe for like 2 bucks, obv the illegal way. i hope someone else relates, its been bugging me my entire life to find them again

Many years ago, I played counter strike in the arcade, which had when I choose whether you want to be a terror or a ct, the pictures of the models/skins were real human pictures, I remember that one of the ct had nightvision goggles, and one of Terroris had a blue phantom, that's probably mod, BUT I can't find it anywhere, even though it's been many years, I still remember it, and I'd like to play just that, with those models

Maaaan i've spent YEARS playing cs_arabstreets with bots! Also online and in computer clubs during the era (2000-2005). It was quite a popular map back in 1.5 days. What an awesome map. Me and my dad used to play on it when we hopped on together. That arab song from the radio is still in my head all those years later. It's so sad this map hasn't came back in some way or from, didn't even make it to CS source. Also i might add, nobody had an official copy of CS in Russia (it was years before steam ever came out), literally everybody were playing on either bootlegs or old versions (people were still playing 1.3 when 1.6 was out) so when maps were removed from the pool, it remained in bootleg versions for yeeeaars. In computer clubs you even could choose which version you wanted to play (1.5 or 1.3). I never could understand or keep up with the latest versions so playing online was a challenge because there were either no servers or it wasn't searching for them at all. So most of my childhood i just played with bots at home, or in computer clubs. I've finally got to play 1.6 when final version came out and you could easily download it from torrents.

Man I remember playing counter strike Hostage mode where the map is take place at huge building, CT Spawn outside the building with some Police vehicles and got 2 ways to enter the building, Hostage being held in Meat freezer room. I don't know what CS i am playing since it's was long time ago but I remember the Hostage use Yellow outfit + they can talk and interact with everything. But if that was CS:CZ Tour Duty but why I can playing on that map freely like CS 1.6 I want to play CS on that map again but I don't remember the name.

I spent more time in de_vegas with PoD Bots than I want to admit. The maps then were made to be fun to play at first, there wasn't that much care from most map devs for 5v5 competitive which wasn't popular that much in the Early days. Most servers would be cramped with 32 players so mappers usually made maps the way they did to compensate for that I think..

I might be wrong, but I recall someone mentioning that Vegas got removed because valve was scared of a lawsuit, since it was based on a real casino. Maybe someone else can clear that up.
