What Are Counter Strike's Most Popular Community Maps ?

OMG, Its been years since I saw de_rats map!! So much memories on those big maps!

westwood layout is genious, it somehow plays with a full server, isolates you into fights where you don't fight too many people unless you ask for it, if you manage to win those fights, you get a reward of flanking the enemy team, you also get to choose if you want long or short range fights, it's just magical compared to other maps. Same could be said about de_emir I guess

I miss the golden days of 1.6, jumping from one crazy map to another

i was hoping you would mention CS_Rio. it's still a big community map at least here in brazil. so popular it was pretty much the sole reason counter strike was banned in brazil for some years

These maps had such a feel... I really wanted that for CS:GO Valve added night vision goggles to the Hostage mode to let the community come up with off-pattern maps for that gamemode, a run off from the well known competitive rules

Your content is always so interesting and well documented! The 2 community maps I miss the most from 1.6 are de_sunny and de_blue, both French-made maps which were very popular on French servers back in the day. They were made by mapper Coucouoeuf from team aAa (yes, that team from the old Nightwish fragmovie thing). De_blue was part of the official ESL map roster for a while.

I personally enjoy the maps with the Dusty textures, those are my favorite ones but what I like about the maps that were covered in this video is that almost all of them were remade for CS Condition Zero and CS Source. Once again Dez, you are doing amazing covering CS1.6 stuff. Community game modes could be an interesting concept for another video.

80-90% of the maps in this video are what made me into a gamer when i was a little and i played either on Lan in an internet cafe or at home in community servers, most of these maps either disabled snipers so its more balanced and fair or i played warcraft 3 mode and it made them way more fun. God the nostalgia hits hard watching this video. Good job. Back in the day these maps weren't balanced, we could play it with 10-32 people and still have fun. Now CS GO is so competitive focused and aimed at balance that all the fun has been sucked from it.... Or maybe the player base just changed from casual 1.6 plebs to sweaty tryhards in GO.

Thanks for this video, I did indeed get an intense nostalgic flashback look at pretty much all of those maps...good to have been part of those 1.6 years. De_rats in all its variations hits me in the feels and the cs_1337_assault or the hotel version were als my favorites back in the days. Side note after seeing Hns_floppytown again: Someone has to bring the oldschool Hide'n'Seek back for real, as a custom mode for CS or as a standalone game, had so much fun back in the days...

My childhood is definitely playing this game but unfortunately no access to internet so these maps are somewhat nostalgic since im playing cs extreme back then

de_dust2x2 is more used if there's no players for a full map. Some servers, instead of changing to 2x2 version, simply put walls, until there's enough players to take full advantage of the map.

De_Dust2_2x2 ia not played enough?! Bro, that was map that admis use to attrack players! On the other note for me one of favorite maps is de_verso. Its somthing like De_Anubis in CSGO today but it had some wierd spots where you break wooden barrier on mid and crawl around to the site but you need somone to boost you over the fence to get in site.

im REALLY late to this but the reason Westwood doesn't play well is that on Nathaniel Miller's original server(rock's hideout 4) it was weapon restricted to pistols only and was meant to be played like that. same goes for a lot of his maps unfortunately. once they left the community that knowledge kind of got forgotten.

so nostalgic seing the majority of those maps, I played then for so many hours :) I would say Awp_india, Aim_akcolt and that's it for now I played so many popular custom maps that I already forget the names...

The italy2 I've played back in the day had a night setting and was mostly played on rooftops.

In Bulgaria back in the day we used to play a lot of cs in internet cafes and the most popular map was de_snipe_it5 it was all you could play if you wanted to play with the other people in the cafe . The video was great gave me a lot of nostalgia about the 1.6 days.

Oh man, i've played de_kabul for the first time in a zombie mode, being human on that map was a nightmare. I instantly recognized it due to the fruit carts hahaha; ¡good video!

God the memories, also i can def see differences between regions i'd say, back in the days de_sauna was very very popular here in estonia as well as de_rats_2 was way more popular then the og one if memory serves correctly, doe rats maps were basically exclusively played on paintball servers for some reason xD also fy_pool_day was massive

I played cs 1.6 between 2008-2013 and i remember almost all of the maps, apart from italy2 and barcelona (which i`ve seen now for the first time). I remember playing kabul, alexandra, abaddon,dust4ever, westwood and inferno2se were 2 of my favorites, there were a lot more maps that are not mentioned here which i`m sure u do remember like de_energy, de_dust_castle, de_mjolby6 and many more. I`m from Romania, and the servers i was playing on were full of this maps, I remember dusty_aztec too, which was basically the same aztec with dust graphics...People back then didn`t even play the classic maps like nuke or train, very rare...dust2 and inferno were kind of popular, but apart from those, only spin offs, I remember de_nuke_2006 or something like that, a variant of nuke a little bit better. Daaamn, what a nostalgia....

I know it'd belong to the fun modes... but I think that Fy_Buzzkill and Fy_Iceworld, should've been there next to PoolDay and Snow at least mentioned. Surf_Green also got REALLY Popular in CsGo at one point, but originally came from 1.6 Fun Modes with Fy maps or Fun Modes in general was what made CS 1.6 an undying classic in my eyes. as whenever I got tired of playing casual games, I hopped on these modes and vibed tf out, so they could literally make a similiar video of their own Dust4Ever got popular alot because of Great playability at old Zombie servers, Furien/Avatar mods. On the same note, Dust _2002 and Dust4Ever also have the kind of gave birth to a Dust_castle map, which was also great pick for a Furien/ZM as well as Classic modes. De_Blue was a "late to the party" great map that I've picked up alot later in the 1.6's life. CS_747 was one of the maps... I enjoyed a lot weirdly enough. I just discovered you sir. Thanks for bringing me down this nostalgia trip.

Damn.. Back in 2010 when i was like 9 or 10 my cousin installed some cracked version of 1.6 with all of these maps and even more with bots. I played it like 24/7 especially the rats map.

the 1.6/css mapping community is just godlike thanks to all these people that made CS the legendary license it is now.

De_dust2002 is one of my favorite maps of cs1.6 idk why I just loved it so much.

Ah yes, de_rats. One of my favourite fan-made maps. Also, I've seen some different variations of it (for example, one in a bathroom or another one, but in a bedroom). By the way, I think de_westwood as Half-Life deathmatch map. Some HL servers have them in a map pool

Thanks for reminding me of cs_italy2 and de_alexandra. I totally forgot about them! I used to play a gamemode where terrorists were super fast with knives only that can one shot ct's and are invisible when stationary while ct's hunt them. Btw Lozo Maps (the creator of de_barcelona and de_avangard) did talk what he was thinking while creating his maps on a Serbian cs channel. Also I think you forgot about de_forge.

Other Rats maps are greats and should have been mentioned, and should have been mentioned the Mansion maps
