I'm a retired US Air Force ELINT Analyst who was stationed at RAF Mildenhall UK and RAF Edzell in Scotland. I can assure you that the United States has a very special relationship with the UK. We share intelligence information and do other things that we don't do with any other nation. Btw I worked with the SR-71 Blackbird while at Mildenhall. It was probably my favorite assignment during a very interesting career.

This video did not address the biggest problem the UK would face. The UK produces only about 60% of the food it consumes so all the US would need to do is set up a militarized embargo and wait for the UK to surrender. Most British people think they stood alone and faced the Nazis by themselves but they completely ignore the trans-Atlantic conveys that provided food and materials and allowed Britain to hold out. Those convoys were only possible because of Canada coming to Britain's aide along with every other Commonwealth country. Something some Brits conveniently forget.

I grew up in a career US Military Family. My uncles at the US Airforce Academy, and Dad's 35 year Army career including as an instructor at the US armor war school. A similar question was asked of my Dad in one of his classes, Dad said the UK would be one of the last militaries he would want to War plan against. In his words, the UK military historically does more with less than any country in the world, with the exception of Vietnam, and Israel. They have always leaned on superior discipline from the top, to bottom especially on the front line level, innovation, relationsips, and intelligence networks. Being a small Island nation with relatively limited resources, the UK was able to take over a large portion of the world. Dad has always taught me, modern wars are more than just one military defeating another. It's the nation's will to fight, its political will to fight, and the will to fight in your front line units. A military taking territory is one thing, holding territory is another.

The thing about ramping up war time production is that you need the resources to manufacture those weapons. The US is much more self sufficient than Britain. The video is oversimplified because it doesn’t mention that the US would establish a naval blockade to prevent imports to Britain. Of course, this all academic as we have a special relationship.

There’s literally no reason to do it. We definitely could and would win, wouldn’t even be that difficult (relatively speaking), but it would be very pointless. The entire US strategy, post WW2, has been to build alliances so that we don’t have to constantly guard against everything all the time. You could argue that Canada is a more important ally strategically, or Japan, or SK, or Israel, but I don’t think you could argue there’s a closer ally. The UK has been “ride or die” with the USA in basically everything for a century. Ultimately, as big as the USA military and political influence are, we can’t do everything, and our “western” Allies aren’t anything we want to mess with (most of us that is).

One thing that almost never gets mentioned is that even with the U.K. being a very close ally, make no mistake, the U.S. has on their books today an account of all of the U.K.s weaknesses, locations of key assets and bases, and strategies for defense. The U.S. will deploy massive amounts of bunker busters to attack U.K. military leadership and enough bombs to level any useable runways for military planes to use as well as naval bases and dry docks. A large part of why Britain didn't surrender during the Blitz in WWII was hope given to them from other countries like the commonwealth but even neutral parties like the U.S. that they would join them and give aid. Playing by the rules in this scenario, you take away all other countries and the aid they can give and you allow the British people to grasp what they are up against, no chance. Not to say the British military is bad, they are amazing. It is just hard to make up the sheer number difference that the U.S. can throw at them.

Add in other foreign bases, US approx 750 in 80 countries. Britain, France, Russia combined approx 30. US averages per year $ military, about as much as the next 10 countries combined. Registered hunters in Wisconsin, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Idaho are approx 2,308,000, largest army on earth, registered hunters in Texas alone would be the largest standing army. We don’t own just pea flickers, and we don’t own just one, and large amounts of that also reload our own brass. God bless America! And the UK as well!
@jonathanbelfire

I get what Ash is saying about the Britain holding onto weapons planned to be exported, however, the actual quantity is not that high. The UK generally focuses on expensive systems like missiles, or Eurofighter related exports. They do sell other stuff as well but not in large quantity. It's also worth noting that the vast majority of countries, including the UK, don't really have large reserves of equipment. They generally have their standing force, and some reserves to act as replacements for current equipment. The US, Russia, Ukraine, North Korea, South Korea, and China are the only countries with actual large stockpiles of equipment (With Poland and India building up their supplies). Ukraine and Russia inherited theirs from USSR. South and North Korea built up massive quantities as there's always the concern of the other country attacking. China built up a massive stockpile to become the next Superpower. The US keeps huge quantities of reserves as we want to be able to wage 2 major wars with peer militaries at any time. The reality, however is that we're learning that Russia's stockpiles (the largest in the world) aren't enough for the war in Ukraine. They are the second largest arms exporter and they've started holding all their exports and even buying equipment from other nations. The UK does not have large reserves and from an export standpoint, they're fairly small. If mass mobilization occurred, most troops would be lightly armed as the UK wouldn't have enough equipment on hand. Also, with US control of air and sea, the US would likely be able to bomb and defensive positions and land relatively unopposed. The UK's best chance would be to retreat and wage a guerrilla war.

The UK isn't even a first-rate military force anymore, they've made so many cutbacks. Meaning, you're not even capable of defending an attack on the country... It's mainly because the UK knows their cousins across the pond will come to their defense with the biggest, most dominant military force ever existing on earth. It's also something that bothers us in the US. Because countries like England and Canada and Germany boast about how "we're better than the US because we put so much more money into social programs". Ignoring the fact they're only able to afford such programs because they don't need a proper military. Who needs a baseball bat when big brother has a cannon?

I can completely agree with you that it will be hard to get ships close to the shores and that you can never underestimate british morale but the point that this video is trying to make is that if the U.S. wanted to, it definitely could. It may take 3 years, it may take a decade, but eventually they will take it. However, it's a good thing that we're all friends and share the same interests because trust me when I say, no one in America would ever do that to our brothers and sisters across the pond.

I did find it interesting though that some of the air strikes the British did in Yemen in the past week, they had to fly 8 hours I believe, from a base somewhere in southern Europe or might have even been Turkey, I can't remember, to Yemen to perform the strikes. Meanwhile, most of the US air strikes were from the aircraft carrier in either the Red Sea or Gulf of Aden. Both UK's carriers are at home for maintenance, if I heard correctly.

It always strikes me as ironic that the British invaded, occupied and pillaged so many countries over their history, a point of fact at which their people are still so proud of and mention at every opportunity. But any threat of invasion of their homeland, even a hypothetical one, leaves them scrambling. bewildered and desperate to be reassured that their special relationship and historical alliances will ensure that they do not suffer the same fate that they subjected so many others to. I heard a quote that the list of countries that the British haven't invaded is smaller that the list of those it has. 🤫

I don't know exactly what either have but I did come across an article about the Ukraine recently that said something about that we sent 276 tactical vehicles to tow weapons but has tens of thousands in inventory. The deciding factor would be how involved British civilians want to be. Citizens may want to stay British, but is it worth dying to prevent American control? Not ideal, but it's not like the Americans would pillage the country. If the US only has to defeat the military with civilians indifferent, it would be over very quickly after invasion.

There isn’t anything in the short term that would cause us to fight each other. It would have to be a steady collapse of relations over years to the point where a fight starts seeming likely. Even at that point it would still take something major to cause war.

Fun thought exercise, but I would say that a conflict between these two countries are the least likely conflict to ever exist. I think that following 1812 things eventually became quite cordial and after WW1, these two were thick as thieves, even sharing in the nuclear program (both countries, I believe, use the same SLBM Trident II)

There's another big factor in this. NORAD is a joint US-Canadian operation. The second in command, about a third of the personnel, and a good percentage of the installations are Canadian. Would Canada remain totally neutral in this? They could really compromise the US' aircraft detection systems, if they wanted to. I don't imagine Canadians would be very pleased if the US decided to try to invade the UK.

I used to think this scenario was not possible. After the US elected 1 POTUS that so many in UK did not like, seeing the reaction and actions of the UK that threw aside normalities & had no issues risking the relationship to act negatively against that POTUS and short-term vision, I changed my view on just how strong the alliance really is. I say that as a Veteran who spent yrs in the UK defending against all UK enemies, including what was at the time a UK domestic conflict. I would add the death of the Queen also greatly diminishes the strategic relationship to be more akin to how the US sees Germany or France than how it sees Japan as just an example. It is not so hard to imagine a decade or 2 of diminishing relationships that would put UK completely into a neutral value of friendship, not an enemy, but not exactly close allies. I can't imagine what scenario would drive the US to desire to invade UK proper, but I could see a scenario in which decades of diplomatic conflict would inspire an administration to view the UK islands just off the US southern border as being a desired space to own. This would most likely be done in local campaigns of civil unrest and supporting a secession w/a future Statehood incorporation than it would be a military invasion occupation and confiscation. There is also that British kindred to the Northern border of the US that would be desired as well. The US actually did have invasion plans drawn up prior to entering into WWI, so those ideals and ambitions are not so far removed from modern times to not have any relevance today. Again though, this would most likely be a diplomatic maneuver rather than a military campaign.

You Trump supporters are absolutely obsessed with that snake oil salesman. I hate to break it to you but most Americans also loathe Trump (Trump never won the popular vote). I'm loyal to my country...not a criminal buffoon. Our allies have every right to question our leadership choices because they also suffer the consequences when America allows wannabe dictators to control the strongest military on the planet. I'm so glad that most of my family (including military members) understand that loving your country doesn't mean being blindly allegiant to politicians.

She speaks of cliffs and beaches and it not being easy to put troops on the ground. When all of your boats and planes are gone and the enemy still has more boats and planes than you started with, you have no set defensive positions. You will be forced from your defensive positions, or you will die there. You say, never in a million years, it's only been 248 years since we kicked you out and 212 years since we last went to war. A million years? With the right circumstances, it could happen in 10. Never say never.

Britain wasn't doing the world a favor of fighting facism, as they were losing that fight. America stepped in and things changed. And, she's right, the world would respond and say "who does America or Britain think they are, but the difference is if America attacked Britain, it would be all over for Britain. if Britain attacked America, it would still be all over for Britain.

As I understand, the civilian population of the US is over 330,000,000 and over 90% to 95% of them privately own firearms of every type and caliber. And we determined to protect our families and our country and freedoms and our way of life. Any enemy attempting to invade our homeland will find it very, very difficult Add that number to our sworn law enforcement officers on top of we have miĺllions of professional soldiers. Invasion of the UNITED STATES would be next to impossible. The US is the most heavily armed nation on the planet!!
@AdikenStan
@AdikenStan 7 месяцев назад
Realistically the US would never be able to hold the UK because it would be a hostile armed nation but militarily it would be a distinct victory. Also to ashes point of the harsh waters there are many different landing points that could be utilized by the US Military the reason the UK couldnt repel a US beach head landing would be because of the limited anti-air and artillery compared to the US numbers you have a to concentrate most of the UKs artillery and AA guns to just a couple strategic beach heads that are more important you would be forced to give up at least a few beach heads in order to protects the others also take into account that manufacturing would be limited due to continued US conventional strategic bombings. Thanks guys great reaction just wanted to give my opinion.

Great reaction. And yeah we have a huge military and folks love to criticize the whole "you don't have free healthcare". Well if Europe had to depend 100% on itself to build up full militaries they wouldn't be able to have that either. For most countries their defensive strategy is "call the US". The war in Ukraine has at least lit a fire and more countries are investing more of their resources to both themselves & helping Ukraine and should be commended. But yeah this is an old video and there's way more than what's mentioned available & coming.

one thing i see when i see these reactions from people outside the united states and gets worried about the US military. You often forget that while we are a military from America, a lot of us were born outside the US. I've served with soldiers from UK, Germany, Korea, Mexico, Africa, Philippines, China and countries like Uzbekistan all serving in the US Army. When we get judged as a military we are normally judged as the stereo typed "American" but remember unless they are Native American We have ancestors from around the world. So the idea of "we could if we wanted too" isn't really a thing. Most of us don't want to but will if we have to. almost the same concept as sleeping next to a pit bull you grew up with. I hope you are able to sleep soundly at night and feel safe. Stirring at night is fine but getting it angry without provocation is not advised. Rarely will we go for the throat but a lesson will be learned at the end.

If we'd like the general population involved, the civilians of the US have 400 times more firearms than the _entire_ US military if memory serves. Keep in mind that our military doesn't play around. Now multiply that by 400. That's the civilians. We also don't have the Geneva Conventions. Civilians can't break international treaties. If you think we don't know how to make mustard gas with household cleaners, you've lost your mind. Nice to meet you. But, you're always a lovely ally to have. If anyone is close to us, it's you. And the Aussies(and Kiwis). The Canadians are on thin ice at the moment.
