Y’all’s journey speaks to my heart. It’s very real and purposeful. I have nothing against people who got youtube money and built a big ol farm but that’s not relatable for me. I wish you RU-vid success as an income source but you did this in an obtainable way without having that first. Your channel is encouraging and I appreciate your time and willingness to share your experiences with us.

Thank you for the encouragement! That means a lot! Yes...We had no idea at the time that we would be doing RU-vid in the future😊 We were planning to sell produce and farm products, but with Michelle's health and some other factors, we felt like that lifestyle was too stressful for us. God led us into this...we love teaching others. Thanks for your support.

Hi Codi, congratulations on taking an abandoned property and turning into a sustainable homestead for you and your family. The extra information that you provided about the development and building process was very interesting. You did a great job! Suggestion for the swamp: if you have the time and money later, you could empty it of the brush and build a pond that you add some catfish to. They will grow and populate so you could homestead fish as well. You also then wouldn't have to worry about flooding as much. My grandparents live in Iowa and built a pond on their property. He only adds more baby fish once in a great while and they are able to catch and do some amazing fish fries with the whole family

Wow 🤩 your house and what you’ve done is just amazing. Congratulations to you, I love it…. If you don’t mind me asking: how many acres is your property, about 10 maybe? Thanks 😊

Your back pasture is better because of the swamp and accompanying forest.. Slow steady release of water and nutrients into it..

have you thought about clearing the swamp so it can be more water than brush, setting up a gravity filtration system that uses natural methods of cleaning the water, letting it feed back into the swamp, and then having a relatively clean water reservoir for the wildlife and also potentially for piping around to other things. Could also plant up the area to make a little grotto with boardwalks and have a nice little nature walk area or something? probably frivolous, but if it's not too expensive it could be fun just to do. could probably also set it up to have the cleaned water push the dirty water over or through something so it can be sectioned off. kinda like a water treatment plant made out of nature and using nature to filter it. idk, just a thought i had, lol.

I heard tell that you don't want to plant any food plants around the walnut trees. Because if you don't pick up after your tree and leave left over nuts on the ground as they break down they will leach out toxic chemical. Look it up to see what you can plant next to them.

It’s called juglone (sp?) and it’s not just what falls from the walnut (or related trees). It’s in the soil around the roots too. You can look online to find out what plants are juglone tolerant. For example, I have black walnuts growing wild on my property & black raspberries & pawpaw are also growing wild right next to them. So you just have to look up what to plant near and what not to plant near walnut trees.

You are impressive! We are 60 and looking to move to our acreage in Northern MN. We have a well but not spigots..what was the cost for each? Also, do you have videos for new cow owners and for preparing soil for gardening? Great work!!

As for preparing garden soil, I don't know if we have a video specifically for that but we have gardening tips mixed all throughout our content.

Watch Charles Dowding with his no-dig gardening methods to learn how to prepare the soil. His gardens are BEAUTIFUL! He shows how he mows short, lays down cardboard (sometimes other materials but usually cardboard or other materials that will decompose) and then a good thick layer of wood chips or compost. Then each fall he adds another 1/2-1 inch more of compost to the planting beds and wood chips to the paths.

Hello, I’m newer to your Channel and happy I’ve found you guys. This is my dream. Beautifully done! You seem organized and intentional. Inspiring! Does Cowboy stay outside 100% of the time? Is he a working pup or a family pet?
@morethanfarmers

Thank you! Never stop dreaming:) Cowboy is an outside dog...he has a kennel and doghouse that he really likes. He's definitely a family pet...We don't have any specific work for him although he's best friends with Peaches, our heifer. I'm guessing he'd love to be a cow dog...we just don't have anything like that for him to do yet at this point.
