Angela Bassett, Viola Davis, the late CicelyTyson, Octavia Spencer, Ruby Dee, Diahann Carroll are/were some of the greatest actresses of our generation. There is a new group proving themselves. It is all about getting the role and the pay deserved.

What Angela Bassett did with What’s Love Got To Do With It is as noteworthy as what Meryl Streep did with Sophie’s Choice. The ONLY thing that separates them is opportunity. Let’s not act like Angela doesn’t have the ability to elevate even the most mundane material with her skillset.

To say that Angela Bassett and Meryl Streep who are both in the same age group and from the same generation are not on the same level is wild. You clearly have either never seen Angela Bassett in a film or only seen her acting once. No doubt she is a great actress and arguably thee greatest. Not because she’s black she can’t be the greatest. According to y’all only white people can be the greatest even when they are mediocre.

@@motionsickness9610 Compare their respective filmographies and then try to tell me Angela has played characters nearly as diverse as Meryl. Angela is a powerhouse and goes deep, but Meryl is a greater chameleon, comparable to Lawrence Olivier, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Gary Oldman.

@@UncleEbenezer77 Are you for real right now! Meryl Streep is a white woman. Angela Bassett is a Black woman. What separates them is a lack of OPPORTUNITY steeped in systemic biass! Do you even read before you respond! Do you really think Angela Bassett could not play Miranda Priestly or Madeline Ashton if she were afforded the OPPORTUNITY to do so! I cannot stand the fact that you are being consciously ignorant; holding onto a position without considering a quite GLARING racial disparity that even Meryl Streep herself is painfully aware of. Also VERY telling that you use old white men as your gold standard. No mention of James Earl Jones, Sidney Poitier, Harry Belafonte, or the inimitable Denzel Washington in your misogynist rant however.
