What does it mean to “desecrate” or “profane” something? What is considered “work”? Did the Creator do something special to the Shabbat when He blessed it? Should we stay at home on Shabbat or meet together?
Rabbi Steve Berkson addresses these questions and more as he gets into the “nuts and bolts” of how to observe the Sabbath (Shabbat).

I have been blessed by “keeping” the Shabbat for about seven years now, but only now am truly understanding what that fully means. Thank you so much for this series.

Shabbat Shalom Rabbi, I thought I was going to have a "hard time" listening to this teaching series, trying to spin myself into doing what I wanted, but I am truly motivated now to guard it to my best ability and pushing to make changes that are in line with Shabbat. Toda raba.

My question...I care for my MIL who lives with us. She is very physically disabled. Also I have a 6 year old child. The tasks I must do each day for them need doing 7 days a week...does caring for them etc break the covenant?

These two InFocus videos should help clarify Shabbat-worthy activities, including emergency services: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uHySzaZ3lrQ.html & ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uoECYJst-OM.html. If you have additional questions, please message us directly on Facebook so we can understand exactly that these tasks are that you need to do.

Haven't watched the link, but here's my short answer in case you're interested: Preservation of life is not just an exception to work on the Sabbath. From what I've read, it's not like, "Don't do anything, and if some animal is in trouble, and you absolutely MUST help, then I guess it's allowed." It seems more to me like a command to help. Don't work unless a living thing needs you, then go help. On the 7th day, YHVH still sustained creation. Without Him everything would die. Yet, He was resting. Plus, there's many examples of Yeshua "working" on the Sabbath by healing people. If it were me, based on my study of this so far, I would say that caring for a life in distress takes priority on the Sabbath. And it's not like you should do as little of it as possible to avoid doing too much work. If you're commanded to help someone, help them without feeling guilty. YHVH sustained the entire universe while resting. There will be some things that can obviously wait, but caring for the elderly is not only the sign of pure, undefiled religion, it's also a huge way to serve and rest in His teaching through your servitude.

Question: is it ok to put together a sandwich as long as all parts are already prepared (cooked chicken, beef, turkey)?
